Community Focus Thread: Bad Batch (with less Batch)

The Bad Batch came and went… and it did not leave much impact at all. Project Necromancer was set up, only to be shut down. The Batch itself has been written into retirement.

The most relevant stuff seems to be the side content, much of which is left unfinished story wise. (Rex’s Clone Underground, the senate storyline etc.)

So this thread is meant to brainstorm together if we can salvage these side stories (assuming another show will finish them) without focus on the Bad Batch.

My 2 Cents:

Baseline:

  1. Omega is not special. The Empire is not hunting for her specifically, but is experimenting on Clones in general.
  2. Project Necromancer is not named, we only know the Empire is doing experiments regarding Clones.
  3. The Bad Batch is a bit like the A-Team in this. They get called in to help, but for the most part the story is not ABOUT them.

Season 1

Episode 1

We take episode 1 of the show, trim it down and remove anything that hints at Omega being anything but a normal clone that happens to be female. We intercut with the Kamino scenes from episode 14, which show the Kaminoans being worried and planning their escape as well as the evacuation of the facility. After the Batch has escaped, we go right to the destruction of Kamino, the presence of the Bad Batch during the destruction is completely cut.

Episode 2

We see the Ryloth conflict from the perspective of Hera, the Bad Batch only shows up as side characters (like in “Tales of the Rebel” by G00b)

Season 2

Episode 3

Crosshairs Journey from season 2, ending on him being captured and put into the brainwashing program, which sets up the Clone Assasins for the next Episode and the Stormtroopers.

Episode 4

The senate storyline from season 2, also without focus on the batch. They only come into the story when Rex calls them in to retreive the recording of the destruction of Kamino. We end on the note that the age of the stormtrooper begins.

Episode 5

We start wth episode 2x14, where clones are being freed. There, we get the setup for Hemlock and Tantiss in the data that Echo gets out of the computer. Crosshair is still just being programmed to be an assasin. We see the infighting between Hemlock and Tarkin. The Empire has no special interest in Omega, they are doing only doing experiments with Clones in general. The attack on Tarkins Station plays out like it does in the show, just cut down. Omega is captured, just because she is another test subject among many.

Season 3

Episode 6

Now this is where it gets tricky. The show would need a cold opening structure or something to make this work. We take the scenes of Crosshair getting himself free and trying to send a signal in 2x14 and recontextualize. Instead od trying to send a message, he is trying to get out. We show basically everything (Crosshair taking out guards) but the last bit in the communication room (where he gets caught again) as a cold opening, cut to the Intro and imply that he escaped offscreen.
From here we go to the reunion from 3x04 and cut Omega out, some wide shots would need to have her painted out. We go directly into the crew getting Hemlock free (that episode can be cut down to 2-3 scenes) and the attack on Tantiss plays out. We see Nala Se destroying her research, Hemlock die, Tarkin taking over, the clones freed and also see the Batch retiring. Especially in this episode it might be difficult to play off Omega as just another Clone, but it might be possible.

The thing missing from this is setup for the Zillo Beast.

But all this just to get the conversation started. I know there are many people with great ideas here. 😃

Got sidetracked into tinkering with this and I have an overall working structure, but 1 problem.

General structure:
The episodes plays out as normal. When Echo gets hit with the food tray, we have a little flashback to the Clone Wars Citadel Rescue (Both scenes have an “Echo, look out!” which is a nice bridge), which abruptly cuts off and shows Echo being freed in the S7 Episode of CW. (Which bridges nicely into him not wanting to be plugged into machines when he wakes up.

The big change comes into play once Crosshairs chip gets amplified. Since I want to skip most of season 1, I use this amplification process as the reason for the scar on his head. Which works nicely. Tech already mentions that the chips do not seem to have an effect on them (except maybe Crosshair), so that whole story arc of removing the chips is not needed. It even will make Crosshairs turn later on even more meaningful, since he has to overcome the chip, which in this version will still be there and active. Also, having the scar there as a symbol of the empires control over him is more interesting to me than it just being a random wound.
After the Batch escapes (i cut off the conversation at “I know someone who can help us” - Implying it is Rex they are talking about), I jump directly to the end of the season, showing the young Clones getting deported and the contract with Kamino getting canceled and the Leadership of Kamino planning a secret departure. The talk in the Hangar between Crosshair and Rampart talking about their plan for the Kaminoans follows.
After that, I show the Batch meeting up with Rex (No Sid), to finish off their journey and paying off the setup of Rex in the Flashback earlier.
Following this I go into the Prime Minister of Kamino being disposed off and the destruction of Kamino, with the Bad Batch not being present for this. Episode ends with the first tease of Tantiss.

It all kinda works. In this cut, the Empire comes to Kamino to identify the valuable assets worth extracting and once that is done, destroys the city. Pretty ruthless and just feels like a well oiled, fast moving evil machine.
There is one scene that poses a problem though: The moment the batch escapes and Crosshair comes to stop them. For my idea to work, he needs to have his scar here already. I tried to cut out the parts where his helmet is off, but that just did not flow very well. I now tried to work in a shot from the scene in the training room of the finale, adjusting the background and color a bit so it fits better. And this works better, but since in that scene an alarm goes off, we have crosshair looking left and right in surprise. Tried to play that in turn off by being caused by blasterfire of his mates, but it does not quite feel right. Preview clip here, no work into the sound done yet. Need to figure out the path first.

Currently I am struggling to find a better idea for this, and with this i am not really happy.
SO DOES ANYONE HAVE AN IDEA? 😃

Oh, btw. I also intercut this with Tales of the Empire, which really amplifies the themes of the episodes, but that is beside the point for the time being.
