Oh yeah, I could see that.

Although, some have suggested Alexis Bledel and Amanda Bynes for this role.

I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

Didn't know if I should put this here or give it it's own thread, but... aw hell I'll just stick it here.

There's a new He-Man & The Masters of the Universe film adaptation slated for 2006 so says Internet Movie Database, to be directed by John Woo, starring John Glover as Skeletor, and at the moment simply titled He-Man. It was rumored that a fellow named Jason Lewis was up for the role of He-Man but so far no one seems to be officially pegged for the part.

So... will this be a great return for one of the great icons of the 1980s or will it just be a horrible mess?

I predict the latter. Hollywood is given waaaaaay too much latitude when it comes to messing with existing properties. If they have their way, we'll get Casablanca with swords...

It also seems that the only things left for them to do are comic book movies, video game movies, or movies based on cancelled tv shows these days. Hard to believe that that city was once home to Clark Gable, Bette Davis, Cagney, Bogart, etc.

Well, I'd hardly blame the actors for Hollywood's lack of originality. But you're right--so many of the new movies coming out as of late are based on existing properties or a remake.

Five out of Five of my favorite movies of this year are already available in at least two other formats:

Batman Begins
Serenity (Firefly TV show and comics)
Hitchhiker's Guide (Novels, BBC show, radio drama)
King Kong (based on a little known picture from the first half of the century)
Narnia (BBC Drama, cartoon, Novels)

True, my point was that in general the quality of the talent can't get any worse...

Don't forget that 'Casablanca' WAS already remade- into a film called 'Barb Wire'. That film was so bad and when it clicked in that they were following 'Casablanca' almost scene-per-scene I just about bust a gut laughing in the theater. And don't worry- I had free tickets or else I wouldn't have paid to see it.

Aye verily.

I have to admit that lately the movies that come out, so many of them don't feel like real movies. A lot of them feel like parodies of themselves or just all out commercials for crappy reality TV, with no real sincerity or conviction or substance at the core. This is probably a bad example, but when I look back at some of the early Friday the 13th movies I feel like I'm watching a real movie, albeit not a very good one, but with later entries in the series (and the slasher film genre as a whole) I feel more like I'm watching a parody of a horror film than an actual horror film.

I predict "horrible mess", for 2 reasons:
1) Anyone here actually see the original Masters of the Universe movie, with Dolph Lundgren as He-Man and Frank Langella as Skeletor? I did. It's good trashy fun, but I don't think it warrants a remake. Did I mention Courteney Cox was in this as well?
2) John Woo has yet to make film in North America that holds a candle to his Hong Kong output.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

Yeah, I've seen the Dolph Lundgren/Frank Langella He-Man film. I grew up watching. I own it. I even went so far as to listen to the audio commentary by director Gary Goddard. All I know now is that it's gonna be hard to find a guy who physically can stand out the way 6'6", 240 pound Lundgren did, and John Glover is gonna have a hard time replacing Langella, who was really freaky evil in that film.

And sadly/ironically it was the shrieking Courtney Cox who hit the big time instead of stars Lundgren & Langella. What a world, eh?

Maybe the new guys can get Dolph to cameo as King Randor, father of He-Man.

To take the thread back to the direction of comics for a little bit, has anyone read Invincible by Image Comics? A friend recommended it to me and I wanted to get some feedback.

Sorry nadcracker but I haven't seen/read 'em.

Did anyone watch the 2002 animated remake of He-Man? It had Cam Clarke, voice of Leonardo from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, as the voice of He-Man/Adam and Gary Chalk (Optimus Primal from Beast Wars) as the voice of Man-At-Arms (Chalk had previously done He-Man himself in that awful New Adventures of He-Man).

I've heard of Image, never really read any of their stuff. Newsarama.com usually has info on them...

Is anyone reading 7 Soldiers? I picked up the 1st TPB yesterday.

Word is that Ghost Rider starring Nicholas Cage, originally slated for a release in 2006/this year won't be hitting theaters till next year/2007.

I'm afraid you'll have to settle for it sitting on the shelf.

I wonder if the delay has anything to do with the fact that Ghost Rider is being directed by Mark Steven Johnson, the same guy who directed 2003's Daredevil...

It was underway, and it was slated for a release this year, but I just heard that it's being delayed for release until 2007.

I'm not sure about Nicholas Cage as Ghost Rider....but I've seen some CG shots from the movie with the flaming skull and it looks pretty good. Never was a huge Ghost Rider fan, only saw him when he guest starred with Spidey.

I don't remember him guest starring on Spider-Man, but I do remember him appearing on the Hulk once (animated 1996 series, not the live action 70s series).
