Marvel = Punisher, Daredevil, possibly Elektra

DC = Catwoman, and Batman anything.

Don't forget Spawn. Image.

That was in like 96, I don't think it counts for this wave.

I heard that the first Spawn was pretty good.. Though I inreality did forget about that one.

I've never walked out on a movie before, but Spawn almost made me do it.

I always wondered who Thor was until I looked it up a few months ago. What's puzzling is how he was able to change his appearance so drastically. In 1987, he was in Adventures in Babysitting, where his 'Thor' character was this blonde-haired stud. But in 1987, he was also Private Pile in Full Metal Jacket where he played an overweight dufus. I guess the two could have been filmed a year or two apart, but still an amazing chameleon-esque transformation.

Just ask George Clooney who packed on 40-60 pounds between roles. He has nearly lost it all again, but he did put it on. Doesn't take much more than a Krispy Kreme diet. He did Adventures before FMJ as I recall. So, putting on the weight after Adventures wouldn't be so tough. I dunno how he looked in roles after that, so I don't know how long it would have taken for him to lose the weight again.

Those kind of weight fluctuations are extremely dangerous though. Christian Bale's blood pressure skyrocketed when he had to put on nearly 90 pounds after losing that much for his role in The Machinist.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

It is definitely dangerous. Especially when you do it multiple times. I'm waiting to see what kind of health problems Renee Zellweger will develop from putting on and losing weight twice for both of the Bridget Jones films.

What about Charlieez Theron in Monster...

I was under the impression she had to gain more than 30 pounds for that role.

Something like that sounds right. I don't know the exact amount. But she did. And she was uglified to all hell.

Makeup. Man, when those make up artists were done with Theron, they made her hideous. They deserve an Oscar and an ass kicking at the same time for being able to make someone as otherwise beautiful as Charlize Theron look like that.

Don't know if this has come up yet or not, but "Elektra" is bombing badly at the box office (it actually got beaten by "Racing Stripes" in its first weekend!). This prompted the magazined Entertainment Weekly to write an article on whether or not there's any future for "superchick flicks" and the article went on and on about how "Elektra" failed because it's cheapter to just stay home and watch Jennifer Garner do the same schtick on "Alias" and how there aren't any good models for "superchick" movies to follow and how male members of the audience are scared of scantily clad dominatrix women.

How about trying "Crap is crap, and people won't waste their money on seeing crap?"
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

Red heads ROCK. Blondes do not rock. Nuff said.

You have to be a bit more extreme than Elektra to be 'dominatrix' anyway.

Besides, it isn't really the genre that is at fault, it's just that it seems impossible to satisfy critics with a super-girl movie.

Agreed

Why not just get an ugly actress to play the psycho prostitute?

I was wondering if someone was going to comment on that one.

She wanted the role and fought hard for it. She wanted to prove she could play characters and not have the role rely on her looks. I think she achieved that end with this movie.

Ok... Well I guess that one makes sense.

I think Theron should play Samus in John Woo's Metroid movie.

Not likely to happen. She's already playing the lead in Aeon Flux coming out soon and she injured herself pretty badly in the process.
