i just think this scene is wierd because wouldnt sidious be worried that vader and luke could supplant him? if i were the darth sidious of the prequels, creative mastermind, or whatever, i would send someone else after luke
I think there is several things going on in this scene. Sidious has grown so arrogant that perhaps he thinks he should have two apprentices. This is the view I've had from childhood. (Stupid prequels for introducing the rule of two thing) The other is that Sidious is playing Luke and Vader off each other. Sort of a test for the two of them. The survivor gets to be the apprentice. He is just after the most powerful one, whoever it may be. Of course, this brings up the question, why replace Vader, who Sidious had powerful control over, with Luke, who he has almost none?
You're right, too. When it was just the three films, you could make your own reasons for why things happened, and couldn't be told you were wrong. Now, GL has told us why things happened, but makes even less sense than we did.
My main beef with the change is the fact that the new ESB Emperor looks no more like the ROTJ Emperor than the original ESB Emperor did. My secondary Beef is the crappy new dialogue, followed closely by Ian's below-par performance. If Lucas is so obsessed with continuity, why didn't he take the time to make The new Emperor match the ROTJ Emperor?
“Always loved Vader’s wordless self sacrifice. Another shitty, clueless, revision like Greedo and young Anakin’s ghost. What a fucking shame.” -Simon Pegg.

Yeah, but I've heard of some of the editors here superimposing fullscreen over the part of the wisescreen that they wish. ocpmovie did used technique when recreating the original Jabba scene with that Irish guy as Jabba.

It won't work and here's why: There's nowhere close to the full scene on the disc, and in the small section that is there the dialogue is not in sync with the visuals. This is a common practice on this disc to make the story as short as possible.
