I picked up one of those classic game compilations on GBA...it has Frogger and Rush'N Attack (hmmm...Russian?) on it...and frankly, those games suck. Frogger is the only one that seems to have any appeal.

I have the Activision one(boxing, hockey, freeway, etc), and its hard as hell. That thing whooped my ass repeatedly.

It's not that the games are hard, it's just that they are way too simplistic. I mean, simple is fine at times, like Tetris or Frogger, but there is a point where it is so simplistic it is just annoying.

Try emulators instead... If you enjoy it, you might want to buy this NES...

The original NES (famicon's american version) was released in... 1985 I belive? I still own a local version of the NES, I got on my birthday in 1989. Wow it has been 15 years... I think it's worth MORE than 40 bucks.

1985 sounds right. My first exposure to the thing was about 1988-1989. I remember being at a friends house and playing on the thing so much it overheated and stopped functioning.

I remember playing the NES for the first time around 1986 or 87. I went on a Super Mario Bros and Ninja Gaiden spree. Great stuff.

Sorry, I don't have time to catch up on any of this thread so I may be beating the proverbially dead horse, but I followed some strong recommendations to try "shining force" on the genesis/megadrive. It's a role playing game and turns out is a precursor for FF Tactics/Front Mission and such. It's awesome! Give it a try!

Search for "emurussia" in google if you don't have a genesis. It's a great site. That's all I'll say about it.

Agreed. But it is a good way to introduce it to people who weren't alive then. Do you have the six pin or four pin 2600?

Just look at it. If there are three of the select pins to either side of the cartridge slot, you have a six pin. If it has two on either side, it's a four pin. Nothing technical or hidden about it. Some people just don't realize that there are two versions of the old 2600 (check that, three versions, see below).

The extra two pins, as I recall, are the difficulty setting switches for each player. On the four pin model, the pins are actually just black thumb switches in back by where you plug in the joystick.

Here you go...

Six-pin 2600

Four-pin 2600

Then again, there is also the 2600 Jr.

Yes, but they also made massive tweaks to the gameplay.

Seriously, if you have a Playstation 1 or 2, I recommend playing "Final Fantasy Origins" first (it's also a compilation of FF1&2, with enhanced graphics, but it's much closer to the originals in terms of gameplay--it makes a few tweaks, but they can all be deactivated).

Same here. And the tops of the joysticks are chewed off just like the joysticks my brother and I used to own (this isn't the same unit; bought it off eBay/uBid/Amazon Auctions about 7 years ago)

Got an extra copy of Burgertime or Q-Bert that you'd be willing to trade or sell?

Damn. I've got an extra Joust and I think I even have Tron. Would have to check. If you lose the auction and still want it, let me know and maybe we can arrange something.

Yikes! $50! I don't think so. He hasn't even had a single bid on his .01 price and the auction is a few days in already. Considering the condition and the fact that Kaboom was never really a great game IMHO, and I would offer him a couple of bucks, tops.
