Christmas Movie traditions

Okay, so we all did it for Halloween... what are your Christmas Movie traditions?

We always watch Rudolph and the Island of Misfit toys about 100 times (that's 3 times a day between Thanksgiving and Christmas)  And to make matters worse, my kids have little animatronic dolls that repeat lines and songs from the movie.
Tim Allen's 3 Santa Clause movies.
My wife's favourite movie of all time: It's a Wonderful Life
Mickey's Christmas Carol
Muppett's Christmas Carol
Mr. Krueger's Christmas

They're almost all kids' or family movies.  Maybe I should add Die Hard to the rotation.  It's a Christmas movie, right?

I'm sure there are others that I'm forgetting.

You know, I really thought I should have some Xmas tradition movies. I was pretty sure I did. Seemed like there are a million Christmas movies out there. The first Christmas I was married, my wife and I decided we should watch a bunch of Christmas movies. I wanted to revisit all the Christmas movies I grew up with with her. To my surprise when I really got down to it and started racking my brain about all those great classic Christmas movies I grew up with, I realized that "Mickey's Christmas Carol" and "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" were really the only two I could remember watching as a kid.

So, after this long pointless introduction, my definitive list of Xmas movies:

Mickey's Christmas Carol

Muppet's Christmas Carol (because it is just that awesome)

How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the real one, not that live action atrocity with that ridiculous famous guy who some people somehow consider to be a comedian)

It's a Wonderful Life

Brazil

The City of Lost Children (yeah, I know that is a stretch, but due to the creepy Santa nightmare sequence at the beginning, I always tend to think of that movie this time of year)

It's A Wonderful Life

A Christmas Story

Scrooged

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

Gremlins

The Santa Clause (Tim Allen, the original is the best)

Die Hard

Miracle on 34th Street (either original or remake)

Bad Santa

How The Grinch Stole Christmas (orignal cartoon)

Trading Places is the only movie I make it a point to watch this time of year.

I might pick up Miracle on 34th Street, which I haven't seen in years, but really enjoy.

Edit: Reading your posts reminded me about Gremlins, Scrooged, and Die Hard. I need to grab those too.

I'm more a fan of non-traditional Christmas movies.

Yeah... Gremlins.  Excellent.  And I can't believe I forgot A Chistmas Story.  We definitely catch that every year.  And the animated Grinch.

And C3PX, Brazil?  Don't get me wrong, it's one of my top 10 fave's, but what about it makes it a Christmas movie?

I get at least one particular of these in every year.  Jimmy Stewart is an awesome actor.  I seriously tear up every time.

Jimmy Stewart is probably one of the best actors of the 20th century, hands down. It's a shame they don't make'em like that anymore.

Of my list, I usually watch three or four of each at least every year, making the rounds to every one every three years. Bad Santa just made it on the list, of course, it may have to drop off for a few years when my baby girl starts getting older, maybe even now. I'm the youngest of the bunch at 30 years old and we're all pretty much cops (Dad, Mom, 2 brothers, and a cousin) so we really enjoy raunchy stuff like that.

I just got flashes of that family of cops on My Name is Earl.

I don't really have many Christmas tradition movies.  Here's the best I can come up with:

Christmas Vacation (classic, of course)
A Christmas Story (so sick of this one, but it's ALWAYS ON around Christmas)
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (dunno why, but it's always been a Christmas tradition with us)

New to the list this year:

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: A Very Sunny Christmas (not for everyone, but hilarious nonetheless)

Every year it's The Life Of Brian and Lion In Winter.

One of the first scenes in the movie is the family sitting around the Christmas tree, the mom is telling them about Santa, when suddenly the authorities break down through the ceiling, grab their dad, toss him in a sack and away they go. Classic Christmas movie material right?

Okay, yeah, but seriously. The film takes place around Christmas time so we often see Christmas things going on in the background. Christmas music can often be heard in the background. Then there is the above mentioned scene, and towards the end of the film Sam sees imagines seeing his fathers old friend dressed as Santa Claus. So visually, the film just fits well with Christmas. But mostly, the whole anti-consumerism theme (like Sam's mother and her friends constantly obsessed with mindless rubbish) just really strikes a chord with me this time of year, which is ultimately why I include it as my one essential Christmas movie every year.

I can see that... maybe I'll have to convince my wife to throw it on the ol' list!

The Cha Cha Heels Christmas scene from Female Trouble always gets an airing this time of year too.

oh boy,  I could come up with a large list here.   I don't watch them all every year as there is just too many.   I alternate.

Movies:

A Christmas Carol(Alastair Sim, George C. Scott, and Patrick Steward versions, I may have to day the new animated Disney version.  I don't like the added action scenes, but even with them, it is one of more accurate versions I've seen)

Scrooge(the Musical starring Albert Finney)
(yes, I am a big fan of the story A Christmas Carol.  I highly recommend that everyone should really the Book.  I try to read it every year as this time.)

Miracle On 34th Street(the original)

Its A Wonderful Life

The Lemon Drop Kid(its where the song Silver Bells comes from)

White Christmas(I have a tradition of watch this one at midnight on Thanksgiving to officially start the Christmas season. )

The Bishop's Wife

It Happened on Fifth Avenue

Die Hard's 1 and 2

(at some point, I intend to get "The Nativity Story" and add that to the list)

TV specials:

Rudolf The Red Nosed Reindeer

Frosty The Snowman

The Grinch Who Stole Christmas

Santa Claus is Coming to Town.

Twas The Night Before Christmas.

A Chipmunk Christmas

If I could, I'd like to get a hold of the original Looney Tunes and Disney Christmas specials that aired when I was a kid.

I could probably add more to the list, but that is enough for now.

We don't have any traditional movies, but this is one of my wife's favorites.  We haven't watched it yet this year, not really sure I want to.  So many other things to watch!

Batman Returns is a Christmas movie in the same vein as Die Hard, Gremlins and Trading Places.

And if you're a comic fan, you gotta watch this.
