Changes that you like (from the 1997 SE and the 2004 OT SE DVD release)

You have to admit, even if the whole GL strategy about re-editing his films is awful, there must be some changes in the SE or the DVD that you liked.
I for one loved the new Victory celebration music in ROTJ.
It is very emotional, and having seen the prequels, gives a perfect feeling of completion.
And about the “Hayden Cristiansen as ghost of Darth Vader” thing, even though I completely oppose to that change, I have to admit that it is a very emotional scene for younger audiences who watch the trilogy for the first time. The reason I say that is because Hayden has a spark in his eyes in that scene and performs with such energy, that justifies all that has happened, as opposed to the old version compationate, father-like Vader.
Your turn…

EDIT:: Added the “ghost of” phrase to avoid confusion.

And now, for your feature presentation:
The Classic Re-re-re-release of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back.
In this version the word "WOOKIE" has been changed to "HAIR CHALLENGED ANIMAL" and the entire cast has been digitally replaced by Ewoks.

Excuse me, but I'm not an english native speaker so I can't understand your slang. Could you explain in plain English?
Sorry

There are some changes I like. Originally I was completely opposed to the idea of having Hayden at the end of ROTJ, but I am starting to warm up to the idea :::gasp:::. The fact that you know he is Anakin Skywalker in the prequels provides a nice link to OT, but only if you accept the prequels as canon, of course. However, the fact that he didn't even know that he was being inserted into that scene makes it even harder to believe he was capable of delivering any performance whatsoever for that part. I think that the timing was on his performace...blame ILM.

I like the expanded Mos Eisley minus all the stupid antics of the robots and spy droids and whatnot.

I like...to wear my sunglasses at night!

Um...shouldn't this thread be in the Theatrical Cuts vs. Special Edition section?

Putting Ian McDiarmid in the ESB was great.

I like the shots that clean up bad SFX and make certain scenes more open, like the Yavin Battle and Cloud City.. Making the Sarlacc look more like a monster than a grease pit.

But others, like the 'comedy' droids oustisde Mos Eisly and Jedi Rocks...
No. please no.

The 1997 final celebration scene is ok. And... that's pretty much it. Oh and the Biggs scene on ANH, that was ok too.

All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

The *only* change I can tolerate is the inclusion of windows in Cloud City. Irvin wanted them, but couldn't have them at the time. Lucas put them in as a gift to him.

That's the only change I liked.

I like the fact that he took Luke's wimpy scream out of ESB when he fell into the reactor pit.

Something he originally added to the SEs in the first place.
"I don't mind if you don't like my manners. I don't like them myself. They're pretty bad. I grieve over them during the long winter evenings."

True, but every little bit helps. At least he's man enough to fix one of his mistakes.

Of course he did blame it on someone else and say it was a joke. So just nix what I said.

Hm. On topic: I like the added shots of the Falcon leaving Mos Eisly. Makes it look more natural.

I hate to say it, but I liked the same scene with the CGI Falcon.

The ONLY two things that I like/tolerate have already been said:

1) making Mos Eisley seem more alive (minus the silly stuff)

2) Windows on Cloud City.

Anyone who likes Greedo shooting first/simultaneously?
Come on, don't be shy...

I do!

Naw, I really don't have a preference since I've not seen the original version.

I still wonder how Darth Chaltab can be around us for so long and yet still have not seen the original version of Star Wars.

Changes that I like............that's a tough one.

new Mos Eisley....nope

Bespin's amazing transforming Windows......nope

Generic CGI BoY.....nope

ridiculous sound changes like Chewies Blaster rifle sounding like an AT-AT.....nope

New Alderaan explosion.....ditch the ring and maybe

"Alert my Stardestroyer to prepare for my arrival" and subsequent scenes.... heck no

New Falcon in DS bay 327....didn't notice since I grew up on pan and scan, so I can let that slide

Mcdeirmid in ESB...maybe if the dialogue wasn't changed and he actually looked like the Emperor. At Least ROTS explains that one. still fine as it was.

Hayden's head.....no, even if they had actually bother to shoot new footage and not make it a photoshop/premiere project. Inserting an actor into a movie nearly older than he is is just messed up.

Let's see

no
no
no
no
no
no
no

andddd nope

I'm either noncommmental of completely against these changes.

Shouldn't this be in SE VS OT?

Made for IE Forum's Episode III theme month - May 2005.

Yes, and I think there is already a topic there with exactly the same subject.

About whether this thread should not be in the "Theatrical vs SE": I gave it some thought before posting it, and concluded that it shouldn't, simply because I'm not asking you to state your preference. By simply saying that you like changed scene, that does not mean that you prefer the whole movie.
After all, I could like changed scene, but prefer the old one for sentimental reasons nonetheless. Of course I could be wrong about this. As I said before I wasn't too certain about where I should post it. Sorry if I made a mess...
And second, there is no thread in the "Theatrical vs SE" with a similar topic.

Yeah there is, it's called 'my SE guilty pleasure' or something like that.

War does not make one great.

The one change I actually liked is from the 2004 edition of a new hope, a much more faithful rendering of Jabba.

I hate the new sound mix, and the 1997 sound mix the best is from the pcm on the definitive collection
laserdiscs.

Plus the color correction in the 2004 edition is a little too bright and funky looking.

I like the original color scheme developed by cinematographer Gil Taylor which used prints from deluxe and technicolor.

I did not like the jedi rocks scene, used in replace of lapti nek, or the new ending for jedi without the yub yub ewoks tune.

I especially loath the changes to the end of jedi 2004 version with Haden, instead of sir sabatian shaw, and jar jar saying wesa free.

I don't like how lucas changed the storyline for the original trilogy, in empire by having it hinted that vader knew all along about luke
and was hiding him from the emperor, until he was a grown man. This obviously means vader went to get Luke from the lars, and
when he found out he had gone off with kenobi he had uncle owen and aunt beru fried by the stormtroopers.

I read the making of revenge of the sith and he even half jokingly, considered putting Padme in the ghost scene at the end of

return of the jedi.

“Always loved Vader’s wordless self sacrifice. Another shitty, clueless, revision like Greedo and young Anakin’s ghost. What a fucking shame.” -Simon Pegg.

Couldn't it just be that after Luke both blew up the Death Star and fought him to recover the Kyber Crystal that Vader sort of put two and two together and realized Luke was his son, but did not tell the Empire because... Palps would want Luke to be his apprentice like in RotJ.
