Yes, that was in the SE. That one has the distinct honor of being among the very few changes I never noticed(I have P&S copies). Jimbo, no new Hoth ground battle scenes have been reported. What's your source?

Ign made a list of the changes and they reported new Hoth footage. They have reviewed the DVDs I don't know if they are just mistaking it for footage always there in the Special Edition.

I never cared much for IGN. They make people pay for gaming news other sites give one for free.

They say they are trying to please "the fans" for this DVD set.

Yet when asked why the originals are no where to be seen, they get all disgusted and say "This. Is. What. Lucas. Wants. Screw. You."

My stance on revising fan edits.

Wrong.

Most consumers and casual movie enthusiants don't care.

The real fans care.

That's why they're called fans.

Look up the definition of the word fan and you'll begin to understand our devotion.
"The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country." - Goering.

"If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it." - Goebbels.

"In times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act." - Orwell.

Yah, I'd say only those people who either love or hate the changes are the die hard StarWars fans. Yet, I assume that the average consumer'd consider himself a fan, merely for buying the DVDs and occasionally watching them, not really taking notice of most changes.

I don't know about that. I'm not what you'd even call a star wars fan-- I like star wars a lot and grew up with it and I just want the damn movies I watched as a kid on DVD. I would never have joined a forum to talk about just freakin' star wars. I'm more offended as a movie person in general. Plus, I hate bad CGI and I think the new movies royally suck. They're like the star wars equivilent to what happened to the Batman Franchise...I mean Darth Vader turning bad because they killed his mommy? Get Bent. The fact that there might be new movie stuff in the old movies is totally nutso. The new movies are unwatchably bad if you're not a fan of the "universe" or whatever. I guess I'm like, in between moronic public and "fan". I care, but on a "why is this retard messing with a good movie?" level.

All I know is that Han Solo was my first crush and he shoots first.

Anyway, just thought I'd sign up and let you all know. I think a lot of casual fans are like "What the hell is this crap?"
If I had unknowingly bought the DVD and it wasn't even the crappy special edition I saw in 97, I'd have returned it all pissed off.

p.s. are they for real putting that bad soap opera actor in age makeup?

has anyone been able to confirm if Chewie finally gets his medal at the end of A New Hope, to me it's the only change that is long overdue.

Chewie got his medal at the 1997 MTV awards. Just because he didn't get it in the original film isn't an excuse to digitally alter more stuff. I agree, it weird he didn't get a medal, but does it really make a big difference? The film is fine the way it is. If Chewie was intended to have a medal, he would have been given one.

Even when I was a kid it always bothered me he doesn't get a medal.

I was talking to the manager of a DVD shop the other day and he said that most people would prefer the originals to the 2004 version.

obviously...
wasnt it confirmed earlier that this site does not translate into other languages...
therefore we're only getting signatures from english speaking fans...

just think of other languages...
French, Mandarin, German, Italian, Spanish...
hell there could be another 60,000 sigs for each language for all we know...

fact remains that there are random screw-ups like this throughout the trilogy (from what I've heard, the lightsabers in ROTJ have been thinned and in ESB and ROTJ, Vader's is pinkish). This just makes these "Special Editions" feel even moe half-assed. If you're going to make this the "ultimate" edition, do it right (even though I don't agree with the changes).

The lightsaber was always pink. The higher DVD quality image just makes it more noticeable.

No crap but they make a big deal of fixing everything up and they in fact don't do it (again with half-assedness). Not that I really care about it anymore because I can't stand the Special Editions.

I wonder how placing Hayden Christensen as a ghost over Sebastian Shaw at the end of ROTJ is an improvement. That is one of the biggest screw-ups yet. You know why? It wasn't Darth Vader who picked up the Emporer and threw him down the Death Star's chasm. It also wasn't Darth Vader who asked Luke to, "Take this mask off, so that I can look on you with my own eyes.". It was Anakin Skywalker. He died as Sebastian Shaw and that is how his ghost should have remained (except not all mangled). Lucas has really lost it.

ya it really shows how Lucas fucked up the whole timeline to Star Wars with his prequels if Anakin was supposed to look like an old man....
very sad

Essentially, he's changing the Original Trilogy to be in accordance with the Prequels...which is obviously completely assinine. You wouldn't have a child then have another one and change the first one to be like the second (slightly confusing but think about it). I always hear "Lucas intended it to be that way..." Bullshit. He did not intend to have Greedo to shoot first (or he wouldn't have filmed it and released in to theaters and home video for 20 years the way it was). He didn't intend to have the Emperor be McDiarmid in The Empire Strikes Back (he at least didn't intend to have him be Palp til ROTJ). He didn't intend big digital creatures walk across the screen and droids smash each other around (think mos Eisley). He's just changing his mind about things and you just don't do that when you've relased a movie and it's been around for more than 20 years.
