Just remember our past discussions Jimbo. Don't state your opinions as universally accepted truths.

Actually Lucas restoring the Han and Greedo scene back to normal is a strong rumor

i was being sarcastic in a way... i was hinting that i want him to change the movie back to what it originally was.

i dont want to start an argument here but sorry jimbo you must not have any taste in movies if you honestly believe that changes were a vast improvement over the originals... you didnt even say it was your opinion! you are saying that THESE MOVIES ARE BETTER!!!

all the changes made were cheesy, obvious, distracting, unncessary fluff to get us back into the theatres to make Lucas more money!
you tell me what the Special Edition got in regards to being a vast improvement over the originals...
cuz i know the originals racked up 6 oscars for ANH, 1 oscar for ESB, ROTJ won a people's choice award for favorite motion picture and ANH holds the number 15 spot on AFI's top 100 movies... now if the SE's were indeed improvements over the originals then please tell me what they accomplished?

Making the movies more alive, advanced, and superior. They are much better movies. 95% percent of the changes made the movies better. More alive. I don't think they are aloud to give oscars to old movies released.

lol okay...
that was indeed a great argument..
how bout you go to the video store and rent some classic movies so that you learn to appreciate a well written story which has nothing to do with CGI and maybe... just maybe i will be able to continue this debate... otherwise you are a lost cause..

How on Earth is prefering the Special Editions not appreciating story. They have the same fucking story. Plus many movies I like have no CGI.

Aliens
The Terminator (in fact I greatly prefer the CGI free first movie to the CGI filled sequal)
Dumb and Dumber
Jason and the Argonauts

*wonders if Jimbo enjoys colorized movies??

UN-BE-LIEVABLE.

Tell me, if you were presented with the Marx Bros. A Night at the Opera, a classic and one of their funniest movies, in both B&W and colorized, which would you like more?

No sense of history whatsoever. Tell me jimbo, would you prefer a colorized version of Schindler's List as well (and before you point this out, yes I am aware of the colorized "girl in the red dress" sequences).

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

Never saw the entire Shindlers List. It was just too disturbing to watch. By the way colorized.

Freak. No sense of artistry, either.

Jesus. This is really starting to scare me.

Don't you think Spielberg had a reason why he used black and white to make Schindler's List? Yes, he had color film available. But don't you think that his reasoning and rationale outweigh the availability of technology? Don't you have faith in Spielberg's creative instinct?

Of course, if jimbo wants to colorize Schindler's List himself and watch it that way, I have no problem with that. It's this whole issue of foisting on the public what you think they'll want.

No I think that was just stupid. I don't understand why anyone would go for inferior technology. He should have done the movie in color. I probably won't want to watch it. I only saw 10 minutes and it disturbed the hell out of me.

I was taking German when Schindler's List came out.
My teacher arranged for all the students taking German to watch it in the school's massive auditorium (bigger than any theater I've been in).
Then we were tested on it.

Jimbo,
Do you understand the concept of symbolism?
That movie is filled from top to bottom with symbolism.

Now, I must be honest and say I do not remember how I answered on the test I took, that was a long time ago, but if I had to guess, based on what I remember of the movie, the use of B&W was to show the polarizing effect on Europe created by the Nazi regime. The little girl in red was a symbol of hope for the future, that the polarization could be undone.

If someone colorized this movie, it would remove that symbolism. It would destroy the full intent of the film. Unlike the Florida voter of 2000, Steven Spielberg's intent is not up for debate. He knew precisely what he was doing, and why.

Exactly. Spielberg had a purpose when resorting to B/W film stock. I will admit that movies are made that could take advantage of advances in technology that have not yet been developed. And that's what Lucas is doing. But not all directors want to take advantage of such technology. Spielberg is one. He had a reason for doing it and he did it. And his movie is that much better for having done so. You can't colorize Schindler's List, jimbo.

I hope this forum remains here for the next decade so Jimbo can come back ten years wiser and read through some of his posts that he has up now. I can admit that I had some stubborn beliefs when I was 16 and I have had the ability to look back on some of the things I've said and done. I can't believe I'm the same person sometimes. I chalk his obstinance up to his age. I know you're going to take offense at that, Jimbo, and I'm sorry. But it's the truth. Many of us were the same way. You'll realize it down the road, too.

Jimbo you should really give B&W a chance... you wouldn't even notice it after about 5 min...

and you think that movie is disturbing???
man you havent seen nothing... put in Goodfellas, Casino and then American History X and then you will realize the meaning of the word disturbing...

or hell just put in AOTC...

I take it you'll be buying the fullscreen DVDs when they come out, 'cause filling the screen is so much better than a smaller image; right, jimbo?

No I hate Pan Scan. I want the whole movie not a piece of it. I am the biggest widescreen advocate.

Or some of David Lynch's work.

Taylor: Oh H, whatever happened to the way of the warrior??

I'm glad I read this post, it really sums your point of view up nicely Jimbo. The fact that you can't understand why that film was shot in B+W, and that you call it "Inferior technology", says everything anyone needs to know about your view of film, and of art. And it does explain why you can't see the value of the original, untouched version. As Bossk says, you will probably take offenses to this, but hopefully when you get older you will be able to see it from a different perspective.
