Maybe we don't want to know about Dooku's past... in a way I like hime the way he is, with a bit of mystery.

What I find ironic is that the star wars saga has enough potential to be made into 3-hour installments (like LOTR), but since GL is a cut-happy guy who wants to make sure the movies are short enough for people to get in and out of the theater and earn him more money he's going to sum up 4 hours of story into a 2 hour movie. So, dont count on learning anything more about the Count!

Here's what GL has to cover in Ep3.

1. Anakin's cross-over to the darkside
2. Anakin's seperation from obi-wan
3. Anakin's married-life with Padme
4. Padme's pregnancy
5. The twins
6. The Darth Sidious/Palpatine connection
7. Slaughter of the Jedi
8. Palpatine's dictatorship over the republic
9. Boba Fett
10. Mace Windu and his death
11. The Sifo-Dyas storyline
12. Anakin's transformation into Vader
13. Padme's death
14. Tidbits with Grand Moff Tarkin, and cameos from other future characters
15. Yoda's exile to Dagabah and Obi-wan's exile to Tatooine
16. Mindless action scenes and saber duels
17. Military might of the empire
18. Jar Jar Binks
19. Organa
20. And Count Dooku's death

As you can see there isn't enough room to explain everything. If only Lucas wasn't so tight about running time.

and on top of that he has this damn PG absession. just make the damn movie PG-13 and you can put the real stuff in you can make saber fights really great and not so cartoonie.

And this is what Lucas is going to do:

1- Oh he falls into lava and becomes evil.
2- "Bye Obi-Wan" "Bye Anakin"
3- "One of these days Padme! You'll get a free trip to the Endor moon!"
4- "Anakin I'm preagnant." "Yeah yeah whatever."
5- "Congratulations Padme, it's twins! Uh, Padme? Padme?"
6- "I am Palpatine... I am Sidious! I am the eggman, I am the walrus!"
7- In the words of C3PO "Die Jedi scum!"
8- Kinda covered on episode 2. Jar Jar gave him the powers.
9- Who? Nope, not on this one.
10-That will be a great scene, death of Mace "Bad MuthaF" Windu. Very Tarantino-like scene.
11-Syfo-Dyas was used by Sidious and Tiranus. He could cover that in a 30 second dialogue.
12-"Here, Anakin, put on these clothes so you can breathe."
13-See #5;
14-"Hi I'm Moff Tarkin." and he goes to the back.
15-"To Dagobah I will go. Make soup for rest of my life I shall. After you're dead, lead Luke Skywalker to me you will."
16-Obviously.
17-Not onscreen.
18-He'll just run away. His death will not be onscreen.
19-"Here, take Leia." "Alright a baby! Score!"
20-"Oh, I think I'm having a cardiac arrest!"

Run time: 35 minutes.

(edited: added the 35 minutes, somehow it didn't show up)

We don't know that at all. Not to mention Grand Moff Tarkin was a major ANH bad guy and we learn NOTHING about him. Seems like your have a slight double standard on this, in my opinion.

I hate to get sarcastic, but let's think for a moment if we talk about mindless action and saber duels. If there is so much in the prequals, how about you name it?

She'll get her free trip to the Endor moon, and the Ewoks will capture her and eat her corpse (she didn't have C3PO and the Force to foll the Ewoks).

Okay I'll name it.

TPM:
1. Jedi vs Droids on Trade Federation space station (quick obi-wan this way, we'll use the ventilation shaft)
2. Jedi vs Undersea monsters
3. Jedi rescues Amidala from Naboo
4. the pod race
5. Qui-gon-jin vs Darth Maul pt 1
6. Battle for Naboo
7. Jedi vs Darth Maul
8. Annie blows the trade federation ship (yippie I blew it up)

AOTC:
1. Jedi vs Zam Wessel
2. Obi-wan vs Jango Fett
3. Obi-wan chases Jango
4. Anakin and Padme vs Droid factory
5. Arena battle
6. Jedi vs Seperatists
7. Clonetroopers vs Seperatists
8. Jedi vs Count Dookie

Now lets examine the ones from OT

ANH:
1. Rebel blockade runner attack
2. Millenium falcon escape from Tatooine
3. stormtrooper chase on death star
4. Millenium Falcon vs Tie Fighters
5. Battle of Yavin

ESB:
1. Battle of Hoth
2. Millenium Falcon chased by Imperial fleet
3. Luke vs Darth Vader
4. Escape from empire

ROTJ:
1. Luke vs Rancor
2. Escape from Jabba
3. Speeder bike chase
4. Battle of Endor
5. Luke vs Vader

As you can see the OT relied more on story than on action. (note: I left out the tibits involving the cantina fight, sand people fight, wampa fight, etc... Because these aren't long enough to be action sequences)

Tarkin is completely different because he was so straightforward. He was an evil imperial officer, thats all we needed to know:

Dooku is:

-a former Jedi master who left the order (why we don't know)
-He became a Count (of what we are not told, how or why are also a mystery)
-He is really a sith working for sidious (since when we are not sure, and whether he knows Sidious is Palpatine remains a mystery)
-He was qui-gon's master, but for some reason had never met Obi-wan (which makes zero sense given that they all live in the jedi temple)
-He was Yoda's padawan, but this is only mentioned in the eleventh hour of AOTC and nothing really comes of it
-He's older then Sidious (well at least CL is older then IM, which sort of seems out of place with the whole master/apprentice thing)

And he's introduced in the last third of AOTC where he fails to really make a decisive impression, with his...

it seems unlikely we will learn anything more about him.

I have no problem with Dooku not being in the SW series for very long, but he should not have had such a complicated offscreen origin if that was the case.

Most of the others were just O.K. I love that lightsaber of his aswell, I'm hoping he has a large role in the next one, but obviously he does have to get killed off somewhere along the line... as do qui gon, padme, all the jedi... and do we finally get to see Jarjar's head cleaved from his shoulders?!?! Say Yes!!! Please!!!

"Master Anny? Wassa you doing with thisa light saber? Meesa..." *sound effects: whoooosh... thud...*

I wouldn't hold your breath on that. GL says JJB will definitely not die. And Chrispher Lee was only on set for Ep3 for one week so his screen time will likely be the same or less then he had in AOTC. I wouldn't expect much more then a big duel.

thats what I've been saying for years, that would be all I need to explain Leia's memory of her mother, then they just have to have Padme die before she gets to hold Luke in the same way.

that scene is superb, especially how the "funny" part is integrated when han asks leia "you could tell luke? is that who you could tell" and then cut to darth vader and luke speaking to each other.

Oh, I see. Instead of having any Wars at all to Star Wars, maybe we should make it Star Sh@@. Half the things you mention are needed to explain parts of the plot, like Luke versus Vader, or just for story pace in general. Just because a movie is an action movie doesn't mean anything with, let me think here, ACTION is worthless, pointless, etc... It serves the purpose of moving the story better and keeps the audience entertained.

I see, Tarkin being in one movie, ANH, is so much more then Dooku. And with that, we learn even less. And as far as Dooku goes period, we do not know how much more will be learned. And I think we learned a good bit about him for the first movie he appeared in, especially compared to Vader's debut in 4. And here's another thing, hint hint, Dooku being Yoda's padawan was supposed to be a surprise. But you already knew that.
