CGI Yoda for TPM — Page 2

The thing is, although GL and Lucasfilm says that SW was always visualized as 4, later 3, later 2 trilogies, GL really only had "Star Wars" in mind as a single movie, period. There was no backstory and no sequel. After the movie was proved to be succesful, he came up with a backstory for episodes 5 and 6, calling Star Wars episode 4. He was quoted as saying that he would not produce the prequels nor the sequels, but eventually he changed his mind and came up with the prequels. It is MORE than obvious for all of us that he made the prequels up as he needed to. So he basically writes just as much as he needs to, and later lie, saying it's a whole part of a planned series. I mean, check out the novelizations, check out the original scripts, the deleted scenes, he had NO idea what was going to happen on the following movies (quoting Mark Hammil as he found out that Luke was Leia's sister: "Oh come on, George! You came up with that on the plane trip over here, didn't you?!"). Also, notice how GL has given contradictory answers when asked if Anakin disapear when he died...

Is there anything wrong with that, with coming up with the story as you go along with it? Hell no, and he actually did a good job at it. What I don't like is Lucasfilm and GL lying and saying it was all planned, when it was not.

Oops: Leia was Luke's sister. Luke was NOT Leia's sister, as I wrote. That would've been one heck of a revelation on episode VI, wouldn't it?

Well, George still talks as if he has had the stuff you see in ROTS in his mind now for 30 years. I've not really heard him talk about having the first two in his mind, except the idea of the 'Clone War'. As he said, a marketing firm would have told him to start the prequels with ROTS and then fill in the next two films with the 20 years between the films. That's not the way he wanted to do it. Well, hats off to him, even if the story would have been better the other way.

Let us not forget that the original version of TPM is already on DVD.

In my eyes, that makes a 100% difference. The original Trilogy is not. That's what we're here for on this website!
I don't care if he adds Gonzo to the Jedi Council in TPM, I have the original DVD already.

My stance on revising fan edits.

Ric, those are exactly my thoughts on that particular subject.

As for CGI Yoda, I don't really see the point in it. If it is indeed a warm up for Episode III, than it's just like the SE, as they were a warm up for the Episode I. I suppose it would add some continuety, but given what Yoda does in the film, does it really matter?

Yeah, because the puppet in TPM looks terrible.

Oh god! Not the Phantom Menace Yoda!

It took me 3 years of therapy and continuous watching of the Dagobah scenes from Empire Strikes Back to end the nightmares!

It's not that the PT Yoda is a carbon copy if the OT puppet, but that he looks believable enough that an aged PT CGI Yoda *could* look like the puppet. TPM Yoda looks like some mutant freak, as if Yoda fell into battery acid.

exactly why they should CGI his ass in TPM

I didn't really have any problems with TMP Yoda. He's not really on screen long enough to matter. It still looks more realistic than the CGI one, but then I have an eye for that sort of thing.

cgi Yoda is a lot closer to Freeborn's vision than that mean-looking terrible puppet in Phantom Menace which looked more like a Gremlin, re-doing his scenes in TPM will be one of the few changes George has made that actually improve the consistency between the 2 trilogies, as for the possibility of replacing the OT puppet, I really can't think of a shot in the OT that would warrant being re-done, 25 years later it is still astounding the life they managed to create from the original latex puppet.

it looks more like a fabric puppet that got mircowaved to me but if lucas wants to keep him so be it your right he isnt in there for long, so it doesnt matter.

There's boatload's of irony now when you watch the documentary, "The Beginning" on the Phantom Menace. Frank Oz is underneath the stage working Yoda, but amazed at all the Green Screen (Chroma-Key) stuff they are doing and he says, "Pretty soon you won't need me, George!" Well, not only from that point on was yoda CG (ATOC, ROTS), but with them going back and CG'ing TPM (which sadly I am in favor of...TPM yoda is creepy and bizarre for unintentional reasons), well its got to make you chuckle. Poor Frank.
16 years I wait and this is what I get???

Also one can chock up some of the crappiness of the TPM puppet to new technology. At the time the film 'Free Willy' was being made a new development in latex casting for special effects came about, giving an incredibly high degree of 'realism' to cast flesh. This technology made some truly realistic animal effects and most SFX artists use that casting/curing process now. The thinking with TPM Yoda puppet was "people believed the puppet in ESB and ROTJ, we'll keep the puppet and with this new technology it will seem even *more* realistic to people!" The logic was sound but the execution was greatly flawed. From 'skin' coloration to the aforementioned lighting to the actual 'youthfull' sculpt the whole attempt tanked; the puppet look worse than toy Yodas that one could buy in the 80s at toy stores.

If they do make a CG Yoda for TPM it better match the rest of the saga.

The TPM Yoda dosen't look bad. It looks different. Heck, even the ROTJ Yoda looks kinda weird to me. ESB Yoda IS the one and only Yoda.

Well...almost. Besides the 3 minutes of added footage and the two shots from the theatrical version that were removed from the DVD.

I was waiting for an answer to this, too. I only have the original VHS release, so what was removed from the DVD?

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

Thanks... But weren't you the one who complained in another thread about not posting if you didn't have anything constructive to say...?
