Next Bond: Andy Dick. Kill the franchise already.

*sigh* why does everyone want the franchise to die. I tell you it can be saved! They just need a better Bond, better writing and better directing.

Nothing lasts forever. Do you really want James Bond to end up like Star Wars and be rehashed and dragged through the dirt to the point of ridiculousness? Unless it already has been... it's arguable.

but why does it necessarily have to end up bad? Whats wrong with at least atempting fix the problems and make improved Bond movies? No, I don't want to see it drug through mud, but I don't want to see it end either. As for Star Wars, I have no problem with the decision to make Episodes 1-3, I have a problem with how the went about it. Why is everyone so certain that the Bond franchise can't be saved? Why is everyone so certain that the next actor to play Bond will fail in the role? Is it not possible that they could find someone who can do very well in role? Why is everyone so certain that its impossible to make a good Bond movie any more. I say again that frachise can be saved. All they need to do is find a better Bond and improve the directing and the writing. No, won't be easy. But it is possible. Stop being so negative.

I don't necessarily think it can't be good again. I just don't think it should be continued solely for the purpose of continuing. I don't want it to end on a bad note either. If anything, though, I think it should be ended relatively soon. I don't know why. It just seems about right.

Well, if it can be good again, I see no reason to end it. Why end a good thing? I just don't think it should be ended solely for the purpose of not continuing. They've been making them since the 60's. It's a tradition. Too many people today care too little for traditions.

Yes, but I do think that, even when things are good, they can go on for too long. Besides, the movie industry is relying too much on franchises rather than coming up with new ideas, so I think that starting fresh might be a good thing to do. Tradition for tradition's sake and progress for progress's sake. They're both bad.

But if they really want to reinvent the series, they should have Bond become a developing character rather than just be stagnant in adventure after adventure. They should get a three or four picture deal with this idea and have him go through one epic story, finally coming to a climactic definite end. I think that would be a good shot in the arm for it.

I say go back to the Sean Connery/Roger Moore eras for inspiration. I agree Hollywood needs more new ideas. But can't we just leave Bond alone? Just because you don't change Bond doesn't mean Hollywood can't come up with new ideas for other movies. *sigh* I guess I'm alone in my opinions.

Gaffer Tape's idea of a three movie story is a good one. Perhaps bringing back Blofeld (he was killed off in the series for legal problems with the character, which I belive can be easily solved now).

I also had two ideas for Bond movies: bringing back Richard Kiel, to reprise his role as Jaws. It would be a different timeline Jaws, since he was supposedly killed off in Moonraker (was he?). Another idea would be having a Bond film SET in the 60s. No modern-age Bond, a 1960s cold-war era Bond.

what legal problems did they have with Blofeld? As for Jaws, I think Richard Kiel is a bit too old for the part now. Perhaps recast the part? Going back to the sixty's has merit. But a multi-movie story? I cant say I'm crazy about that.

Richard Kiel is probably as old as Harrison Ford - maybe a little bit older - and they want the later to star in Indy 4, so...

The character of Blofeld and Spectre are owned by producer Kevin McClory, which denied use of it after Diamonds are Forever. A nameless character that was supposed to be Blofeld appears in the opening sequence of For your Eyes Only, being killed in this sequence as a nod to the fans that the series didn't need Blofeld and Spectre to proceed.

I suggest the multi-part story as an easy way of saying that I would like the character of Bond to develop. I think it would be nice if we could see him with some sort of character arc just once rather than being the completely stagnant, gets the girl shaken not stirred over and over and over again.

It could work. But can't say I'm crazy about having a changing Bond character. I don't Bond to become a soap opera. Why can they just remain simple spy/action movies?

Geez, every post I make AWK comes along and posts straight after me, which means that nobody reads my post, and probably don't even want to click on the thread because they see his name as the last poster. So for everyone who is actually interested in the new Bond and isn't just here to say 'All your Tom Hanks is belong to us' or some other crap, here's the link again:

I read the post of yours and the site at the link. As I said at the AWK thread, it's not done to intentionally block your posts. BTW, you've caught on to my pattern! And the correct way to say it is: "All your Tom Hank are belong to us."

actually his name is Tom Hanks

I wonder if they will actually cast someone in their late 20's to play bond seeing as thats the age of the character in the story. Id imagine from that article that they will be going with someone younger then Brosnan is, but how much younger do you think.

I need to read Ian Flemmings novels, ive read one back years ago and enjoyed it. I love the whole secret agent thing and from what people are saying here the books make Bond to be a fairly different character then the movies. This new movie could be interesting. from that article it seems that this is Bond's first mission, is that correct?

Of course his name is Tom Hanks, but the "All your base" formula won't allow that. Using that formula, Tom Hanks is actually Tom Hank, so I was right and youwere wrong! You must use the singular of any noun in the "All your base" formula in order for it to work.

I think they were still going to try to stick with someone in their upper 30s/early 40s. They want to appeal to somewhat younger audiences while not alienating their bread and butter which are the fans that have been around for years, even decades. Hence why you hear so many rumors about guys like Hugh Jackman, Julian McMahon, and Ioan Gruffaud, among others.
