Brosnan is no longer Bond, Daniel Craig is now Bond. — Page 13

Well he was good in Layer Cake....Which was a good film anyway!

As long as they don't base the film around what stunts they can come up with next, it should be ok.

But really I don't give a tosh

I have nothing against Brosnan as Bond. I have a big thing against the writers of the four movies he was in. Since the 80s, I always felt Brosnan would be the best person for the role. When they announced they had picked Dalton, I admit I was a bit disappointed because I wanted Brosnan to do it. Sometimes, though, it does come across as though I'm holding it against Brosnan, but it's truly not his fault. He has the look, attitude, and everything else needed to be a great Bond. Just not good writing to support him.

HotRod, I rented Layer Cake from Netflix and will be starting it today on my portable DVD player during my lunch break. Been looking forward to it.

Brosnan was a great Bond, and I personally like Goldeneye. But the rest of the Brosnan films both sucked and blowed at the same time. It was not Pierce's fault. He was the only redeeming feature of those movies, and I'm sure they would have been even worse without him.

*vaguely remembers something about an asian guy with diamonds embedded in his face who has plastic surgery to look like a posh English guy who enjoys extreme sports and shudders*

*gets an image of Madonna trying to act as a fencing instructer and has a near fatal heart attack*

Dear God, I am almost pleased for Brosnan because now he can move on to better things. I thought he was very good in the Laws of Attraction, and very un-Bond-like. Daniel Craig - Good Luck.

NOT Brosnans fault, though. I belive he was an excelent Bond, he just got some bad films. I liked The World is Not Enough, had a plausible and comprehensive plot - not like the one in which the news guy wanted to rule the world, or when the north korean who had an extreme makeover tried to rule the world with a giant heat ray (although they had a similar silly plot in Diamonds Are Forever and that worked out a bit better).

I also think that things might be looking good for the franchise now. It almost seems as if the business is in a Star Wars backlash, rebelling against the huge hype for special effects and going for things that are much more gritty and character-driven. So maybe it's a good time for Bond to come back. And I like the one picture that was posted here of Craig.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

I would love to see a Bond film that is akin to the Bourne movies. I think that kind of intense action and realism would be a nice departure from the Bond of old.

actually Tomorrow Never Dies is my favorite of the Brosan era. Its plot more closely resembles the older Bond films than any of the others.

Yeah Bossk, that's exactly what I'm hoping for - something along the lines of Bourne, but obviously with the trademark Bond-isms (beautiful women, some one liners, Martini, etc).

"and the car, chicks dig the car" - Wrong film I know, but couldn't help it.

So Bossk, what did you think of Layer Cake? Do you thing Craig is good enough to play Bond?

Personally the only car I want to see in a Bond movie is the Aston Martin DB5. If they insist on using a modern Aston, fine, but none of that invisible crap. What a joke - an invisible car. I mean, I suppose it's possible one day, but Bond isn't sci-fi.

Speaking of the DB5, I just had a thought. Remember in the last Bond flick they showed all the old gadgets lying around Q's office and Bond picked up the jet pack from Thunderball and said 'does this still work?' Well, that definitively means that all 21 Bond films fall into the same continuity/universe. I always considered each new Bond to be the start of a new cycle, if that makes sense, existing seperately from the previous Bonds. Does anybody else have an opinion on this?

In 'For your eyes only' the beginning has Bond standing over his late wife's grave, who got killed in 'On her Majesty's secret service'.

Apart from that no opinion, no!

Yep, I like him. I think he'd be good. He has the confidence to pull it off. The scene in Layer Cake that sold me on DC as Bond is when he's in the nightclub eyeing Sienna Miller the whole time while Sienna's "boyfriend" is trying to talk business to him. He looks like he can belong to any environ that he finds himself in yet still be cooler than everyone in there. And the looks he and Sienna were making back and forth to each other just reeked of a Bond film.

I for one am going to boycott going to see this movie, and hope that it bombs hard core.

Why? Why would you hope that Bond's downward spiral continues. Any Bond fan, or movie fan, should hope that the studios starting making good films again. Hoping something bombs is pretty dumb. Unless it's a totally crap movie that deserves to bomb.

Four words: bring Richard Kiel back.

Three words: He's too old.

Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing were much older than Richard Kiel when they starred as Star Wars villains. Didn't mean anything. They were great baddies.

But if you're going to argue the physicality factor, Harrison Ford will soon be coming back as Indiana Jones, a very physical role, and he's only three years younger than Kiel.

He is not too old. He won't be doing any stunts himself, and we wouldn't hear his voice, so he can pull it off quite well. Jaws is my favorite Bond character, and he would fit perfectly Casino Royale.

I still say he is too old. It will be too easy for a younger Bond to kick his butt. Its too much of a stretch to protray a man as old a Kiel being able to phyically change a man as young as Craig. It won't be believable.

Yeah, but he has the physical stature still, right? That and some makeup/wig/dye should help do the trick, shouldn't it?
