The TR47 and the Anamorphic sets have the exact same extras disc.

The TR47 set is 4:3 widescreen and contains the original uncompressed PCM audio tracks. The Anamorphic set has a compressed/ converted audio track (AC-3 I believe) to make room for the commentary track, menu screens, THX opening, and an easter egg. Both excellent sets with different strengths.

Hi there everybody!

I just wanted to give everybody a heads up on my TR47 'Return of the Jedi' DVDr status - AFTER I posted that TR47 was not willing to replace a bad disc he Private Emailed me this -

TR47
Padawan Learner -

Well, it seems you're not as anti pirate as we all thought. I just found you on ebay (angrymomproductions) and you most definately sell for profit. Here's the deal: If you want a working ROTJ disc , I want you to delete your ad from sell.com completely. I don't care if you want to sell the set, but do it elsewhere. I'll also keep your ebay items out of the public view on this board so you can keep your masquerade going. Let me know if this sounds like a fair trade off.

SO I'm forced to out myself to you guys here on the forums.............

I freely admit that...

1st. Angrymomproductions is my brother using our Mom's account

- If he wants to sell them that's his deal. BUT again notice all the super low prices (I made him lower his prices), I don't have time for eBay with a full time job and 2 kids and IF I were to sell them on ebay it would be $12 but I do NOT want to sell on eBay as I would NEVER have the time to fill 1000+ orders a week burning DVDr's at 1 and 2x!

2nd. I do have a set on sell.com - it's not even the same set as TR47's and I've only sold 2 copies for $12 just like here on the forums.

(sure it's cool to make a few bucks but $25 just for 4 plain DVDr's - I include the PRINTED covers and the keepcase for almost that very same price!!) BUT this TR47 person is asking me to STOP selling IF I want a replacement.. wait a second DUDE, that sounds like extortion.

AND

3rd. I NEVER said I was anti-pirate as TR47 would put it.....

- I'm just anti HIGH PRICE and DARK DEALERS = folks selling DVDr sets for $50 or MORE - which I solved here on the forums if I sold on eBay I would solve it there as well and don't this TR47 person have their name and email address all over www.prillaman.net? - I've also burned quit a few sets FOR FREE if you sent me blank DVDr's. ONLY a few of us have done that. I've also posted BITTORRENTS of these DVDr's AND the Phantom Edit which i hosted for 2 weeks again for FREE.

I would not have posted the name TR47 at ALL - but he failed to reply to my emails PRIVATE and using the PM here (about 4 of em') requesting a replacement disc almost two week ago now. EVEN after he refused to send me a copy of his set until AFTER I send him a replacement for a BAD disc that I sent him (I might add I sent him a total of 7 DVDr's for his 3) - I just felt I deserved the same FAST service from TR47 as his paying customers.

SO since I'm now outted on sell.com

I'm SO sorry guys - Yes I do have a set on Sell.com and there it will stay.

And to make amends for this AWFUL post and my bad form -

I'm gonna now offer the 3 disc DVDr set for ONLY $9.99 SHIPPED anywhere in the US and $14 ANYWHERE in the world.

Again I'm sorry if I've mislead anybody on the forums or at sell.com

Some strange things going on here. First DigitalFreakNY offers the sets for free and gets threatened and then Rikter gets threatened for offering them cheap. If I didn't know any better, I would swear that someone else doesn't want their business interrupted, and that they would go to great lengths to make sure it isn't. I'm not sure why there is all of this cutthroat activity going on.

I'm redoing my project and it won't be ready for some time. But now, I'm a little leary of offering it for fear of some hammer coming down on my head because I'm interrupting someone's profit margins.

Maybe the official releases will be out and include the Original Versions so that hopefully, all of the nonsense will stop.

I'm really glad I didn't go to TR47 for my copies. I think you're right Patrick, that someone is out to undermine competition. It was extremely low-brow to go after Digitalfreaknyc for offering copies for FREE (asking only for people to send him blank DVD-rs and return shipping). If I had a copy of TR47's ROTJ, I would gladly send it to Rikter. I encourage anybody who does to get in touch with Rikter and help him out.

Some more thoughts on 'anamorphic'

I just did some tests, and making the LD's into an 'anamorphic' version really does kill the quality.
I think the reason is two fold.

1) The resize - by resizing the available video without black bars to 720x480, there is some quality loss (though not much)
2) The encoding - this is where it really makes a difference if you are using pro encoding tools. The quality of the encode is much lower, due to the fact that you are encoding full frame 720x480, you end up with a lower quality encode, vs encoding the 4:3 black bar version, where you are effectively not encoding the pixels that make up the "black bar space".

So you are forced to use much higher compression --but not getting any more detail--
It is really noticeable on Jedi, where luke gets out of his x-wing after crash landing. On the anamorphic sets you get a lot of MPEG pixel issues in the fine detail of the xwing. When going with a 4:3 encode, the bitrate is high enough to make them go away.

So it looks like my first version is going to stick to the original format/ratio of the Definitive laserdiscs. I may then do an anamorphic later as it will still look a lot better than the current version due to going dual layer and effectively halving the compression.

DUDE your so awesome to have gone and done that.

What tools are you using for your video encoding?

I am currently downloading 3 torrent files I found on Torrentbox the titles are;

Star Wars Ep4 - A New Hope - Pre Special Edition LD Rip
Star Wars Ep5 - Empire Strikes Back - Pre Special Edition LD Rip
Star Wars Ep6 - Return Of The Jedi - Pre Special Edition LD Rip
Supplemental Material

Does anyone know the details of these torrents (quality, tech details etc)?

Cheers

I just finished downloading A New Hope torrent file. (Finally!!!!)

The quality is LD quality, but don't try to maximize it to the size of your monitor or you'll be sorely dissapointed.

If you don't mind a half-monitor sized movie running (or full size with not so great quality) then go for it.

I (unlike SOME people) and still SEEDING the file.

Please, people that have the file, SEED IT!!!

EDIT: I'm sorry, the quality is just fine. It's my computer!

You see, whenever I play a DVD on my PC, there are vertical lines of sorts covering the screen.
I thought it was the lens or something. But if it does it for a file I downloaded (!), it musn't be then.
These lines look like "missing information", even though the information is already there. Left to right of these lines looks like a slight 'jump' in the image. And these lines are stationary; they don't move.
Can anybody help me??

Perhaps they're scan lines put in by the software to cut the rendered lines in half for slower computers. If they are you can most likely turn them off. If not, try a different DVD playing software.

Does this only happen when you play the movie full-screen? Try switching your resolution to 640x480 first (and switch back when you're done watching the movie, obviously).

i good tip for those who are finding the star wars torrents to look shitty on their computer...
dont watch them on a monitor.

monitor's werent meant for watching movies... throw it on a DVD using intervideos dvdcopy and you will have a damn good looking copy of the movie...
i shit you not!

These torrents are like a dream come true.

Minus the scan lines I'm experiencing (which is my computer's fault, not the torrent's) these are excellent.

I shed a tear of joy, exactly like when the LDs were delivered to my home.

But how do I turn off these gosh-forsaken scan lines??!!!!

Have they corrected the ESB Torrent yet? I remember that someone here posted that a small piece of Leia welding is missing. The reason for this is that the first Definitive Collection LD set had this flaw. Subsequent pressings did not have the flaw and those with the first pressing could have their's exchanged.

I guess I may attempt to get the ESB Torrent to see for myself.

I finally finished downloading the Return of the Jedi torrent from torrentbox.com today. Now I have all three original trilogy episodes on my computer. My question is, how do I seed the file? I've heard people talking about it and all, but I'm relatively new to torrents (in fact I only started using them less than a month ago so I could download the original trilogy when someone on the official Star Wars message boards posted a link to torrentbox.com and said the files were up there).

First of all, thank you for wanting to seed ROTJ.

I use Torrentstorm as my torrent downloader client. In it, I just open the torrent file in it. If it is completed, it automatically seeds it.

For bittorrent, I'm not sure how. I would try opening the torrent file in whatever client you used, and if it's completed it should automatically start seeding it.

Thank you for wanting to seed ROTJ, as it is loading the slowest of the three on my computer at a pathetic 2 KB/s.

EDIT: Ironically enough, I was the one who posted the link to torrentbox at the officail site.

Okay, thanks I got it working. I'm seeding the file now and it's uploading at about 50kB/s (if only it had downloaded that fast!)

No you can't burn a DVD with a CD burner.
You can just play it from your hard disc though.

For the guy having problems with PC DVD playback, try the 'TheaterTek' player, and I will guarantee they will look better on your PC than on your telly.

" Is it possible for the average folk like me to burn Star Wars onto a blank DVD, when I only have a CD burner?

And do the whole movie on one disc?"

You can burn a DVD onto a CD (called a mini-DVD), but the quality will be inferior, and you'll need two discs (This is similar to how VCD's were done.) Neroburn includes this option under CD formats, but again, I wouldn't recommend it.

I'd suggest getting a DVD burner instead. The prices are dropping all the time. Hell, you might as well go get the Sony 2-layer burner at this point, which had a gtreat starting price.

Apparently, my DVD decoder is fried.

I'm gonna have to reinstall the operating system, destroying all data.

A.K.A. I'll have to re-download the torrents!

It'll take a sweet while, but I only had ANH hope done so far anyway.

At least those pesky vertical lines will be gone.
