There are 3 Alternate sections of Dialog / 2 Scenes with alternate or no music score / A more vividly colorful Print that has more image top and bottom.

In addition this DVD will for the first time include the -stereo- isolated John Barry score matached up to the film, and also include the now out-of-print USA, French, and World Mono mixs of the movie.

This is a preservation project.

Isolated score versions for You Only Live Twice, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Diamonds Are Forever, and Live and Let Die are on the way too!

Before starting this project, I made sure to do a bit of research so as not to duplicate any features, and make a unique fan preservation.
As far as I can tell, my preservation will only include "Out-of-Print" elements even after the July 17th UE DVD's come out.

No worries. Take a look at the Thunderball: UE DVD review, and the other Bond UE reviews if you want. It's pretty much a certainty that the R4's will be identical to the R2's.

I know. I mean afford to pay for shipping and blanks of course. I can't get them via torrents because even though I am a member of MySpleen and have a 512k connection - I have a 12GB limit per month. I have to share that with my family and can't really download anything of DVD size (I had to have my girlfriend download a 3GB Weird Al torrent because I couldn't grab it here without maxing our limit).

Yes, this is the entire film "Thunderball", and the most complete version of the original C.R. that is known to still exist.

There are just a few small things left to be done to the issolated score track, and then this project should be done.

This project should be done soon...

We have had some problems with a bad system virus and a 160 gig hard drive that just died with an almost completed compilation of the film on it.... Thank the lords that I had all the master elements backed up on another drive...

How is this guy coming along? Still anxously awaiting seeing it - especially after seeing the documentary on the version difference that was on the now deleted 1-disc DVD. Would love to see the orig. Casino Royale before the new film comes out.

cannot even begin to say how excited i am about this project as the criterion bond trilogy or banned bond set was a smashing success.

They claim in one of the commentaries I think on the bond movies that thunderball was shot in cinemascope, I was under the impression that was a 2:35:1 anamorphic process?

also the ultimate edition is 2:35:1 and they claim they are releasing all of the bond films in the correct aspect ratios for the first time. I believe all of the U.E. before thunderball are 1.66:1 though I have seen differing aspect ratios on different dvd releases on dr. no and from russia with love I have seen 1:77:1 , 1:78:1 or 2:35:1 .

I am relying on info from amazon u.k. and amazon.com as well as IMDB and so some of this could be incorrect.

I own only one of the U.E. releases and it is from russia with love and in pal. The picture sometimes is overly bright and a little too blue for my liking though not as bad as the job they did on star wars. I still think the closest in quality to the original cinema release is the criterion laser disc CAV release. i think they even added digital film grain after the clean up process on the U.E.

the cover art on the Ultimate editions are ugly and the menus are not as good as the special editions, but the supplements on most of them more than make up for that.

and the new bond film Casino royale i've seen a trailer or two of it and it looks o.k. but I simply cannot get past that the actor does not look like bond or even have the right cadence. It really should be called "an action film by any other name" not James Bond. I would have approved of the choice of the director if he did'nt produce a turkey with legend of zorro. His only good films are goldeneye and mask of zorro. I guess the producers thought they could bring in the director of goldeneye and dupe us into thinking it may be a good film. That would've only worked if it was a sequel to die another day and starred pierce brosnan and teamed up with martin campbell.

Cinemascope is in fact a 2.35:1 anamorphic process.
And all the UE editions are in the correct aspect ratio. the BOnd films before Thunderball were shot flat with an 1.66 aspect ratio. Live and let die and The Man with the golden gun were shot in 1.85:1.

don't believe amazon or imdb, they are not good sources.

fanfiltration sorry to hear your hardrive crashed and you have to practically start from scratch. That really sucks.

anyway since you seem to be one of the resident bond experts here I thought I would ask a question.

How come criterion never did a release of thunderball?

did it have to do with the fight they were having with eon over the commentary tracks they wanted censored?

I think thunderball is superior to goldfinger but that's because I like terrence young's work. Dr.no, from russia with love and thunderball have to be my favorite bond films.

there was a laserdisc release of thunderball that had a ton of supplements are those on the new ultimate edition dvd?

what about the fact that audio commentary on an official bond dvd says it was shot in cinemascope and was the first bond film to be so as well as being the first showing of connery in the gunbarrel sequence. I was under the impression that cinemascope was an anamorphic process yielding a wider image of a 2:35:1 ratio.

The ultimate edition releases are being released in their correct and theatrical aspect ratios for the first time according to publicity and thunderball is 2:35:1 on the dvd.

The line "the things I do for england" was recycled for a view to a kill but ultimetely cut and is on the u.e. dvd. It was also used as a parody in the movie XXX with vin diesel when he says "the things i'm gonna do for my country"

Hi,

Yes, all of the LD box set were included in either the SE or the UE DVD of Thunderball.

Looking forward to that restoration of the lost laserdisc version of TB thought !

too bad there are not any rare commentary tracks like the banned bond CAV criterion releases, there is nothing available like that on laserdisc or dvd as far as I know for thunderball.

I wish criterion has been allowed to do thunderball for a deluxe CAV release on laserdisc so that we could have had a candid commentary by Terrence Young about the making of the movie.

It would have also been cool to see what they could've done with You only Live Twice or Diamonds are forever.

one would also wonder what excellent trearment they would've done for On her Majesty's secret service with George Lazenby, or the roger moore and timothy dalton films.

Sorry I've been away...

The lack of a "Rare" commentary track for this film, led me to construct {as close as possible} a music only track for the Thunderball preservation. It as close as I can get to the music as it is presented in the film. This music edit was the most complicated re-edit of a soundtrack I've ever attempted. Seems that the Producers went and extracted bits of the recorded Barry Score to make some cues out of parts of many different cues that Barry recorded. This led me to have to try and duplicate the edits in the score by using the Soundtrack CDs. What a job this has been. I have been having a problem identifying some of the music used in the underwater segment at the films end. I have an isolated score that is at this point about 97% matched up to the film.


BTW, I saw the new film this past week.. WOW! It's true! BOND IS BACK...

It will be duel layer DVD format.

The project is on track and still being worked .

The isolated score may now be included as a stand alone extra... Some small bits of music could not be located. We don't want to have just 98.3% of isolated score running under the film, I want 100%.

French Mono WILL be included, but will only have the version of the dialog as it was presented on the S.E. DVD.

The Most complete version of the T.V. Play "Casino Royale" will be included, as well as other extras..

As for video. I have been comparing two versions released on Laserdisc of the International version..

One is from 1989 and the other from 1993. So far the 1989 looks best..
