I like this fresh approach very much, these look really nice. Looking forward to the final versions!
^ I think I’ll be making my disc art that simple too, similar to the VHS days.
I’d love to see yours as well, when you’re done, if you’re willing. Do you think you might post some direct links to this thread?

This is my new and current WIP:
This time, I’m using the paintings by Noriyoshi Ohrai!

Update on my current cover project: I made a huge overhaul. I increased the size of the art to fill in the whole front cover. I also added more color to fit the color scheme for each movie. I also gave the titles an off-white color. They’re still not ready, yet, which is why I shrunk the size of the pictures below. There are still areas I need to fix, especially when it comes to centering everything properly:
I might make these double-sided.

Nice work, and I especially enjoy the orange colors of “Empire” I would possibly try and make the “despecialized” type easier to read. It bleeds into the background a bit making it a tad difficult to see clearly. Top notch stuff!
cheers.

I might just get rid of the text “Despecialized Edition” on each cover. It kinda takes away from the front cover rather than add. Putting something behind the text to make it pop out more would disrupt the design, not to mention the fact that a drop shadow adds nothing, either. It worked for the titles, but the extra text would probably make the front cover look more crowded.

not a bad idea…the artwork is amazing, and has me chomping at the bit to make a set for “empire” alone! I hear even harmy is not too fond of referring to it as “despecialized” anymore as well. Hope you finish and make them available to the community. Some of the more unique covers I have seen thus far! keep up the amazing work!

Awesome work Skywalkerfan101 - these covers remind me of the Mondo covers, but they have their own character! I definitely like the three background colors, blue/reddish/green for each movie. Can’t wait for the final result.
I recently began working on another cover set for the Despecialized version. I am using resources from Noble-6, found on Deviant Art and posters by Rich Davies. Like I mentioned previously, there are so many awesome posters out there, it is just so difficult to choose just one…
I plan on completing a set shortly, but any feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

That cover looks great! I really like what you’re doing, and I’m excited to see how it turns out! 😃
Thanks! Here are the other 2 covers. They are of course a work in progress ;-D
Minimalist disc art in progress:

I really like these designs! The only thing I might change on the covers is the shot of Luke on the ESB cover- it’s a bit bug-eyed, or something. And the minimalist disc label is very nice. Once you have a good image for the background there’s not much else needed, in my opinion. Are you putting this together in Photoshop?

Great set. I would love a complete copy.

Thanks. As I mentioned previously, one of the biggest challenges for me is finding a set of posters that all three images match and look good and since I don’t have the artistic talent to create the images, I have to kind of work with what I can find. And don’t get me wrong, even the images that I don’t personally like are still really well done byt highly creative artists, so I do not want to be overly critical of their work; I guess I am just picky. The programs I am using are gimp and Surething label maker.
I did change the border to a thin white border on the covers, it doesn’t do much for Luke’s bug eyes, but I think it looks a bit cleaner.
And the other 2 discs:
Another minimalist set with a similar theme…
I’m really liking your back cover image choice a lot.
There’s really a fine balance that I’m looking for in my cover design-- and perhaps it is unattainable. On one hand, I don’t want my covers to scream “THIS IS A FAN MADE CHEESY PROJECT”-- I want it to look very legitimate, like something officially put out by Lucasfilm. Yes, I don’t want it to look the same as anything that actually is put out by Lucasfilm-- I want it to stand out as something special… or, rather, something De-special. There is a bit of tension between these two ideas, and I’m not sure if I can find it without compromising one side or the other.
I could rant for a while, but it’s past my bedtime…

One69chev, on the one hand your various designs are just gorgeous.
One the other, you are making it very hard for me to settle on which ones I want to use when I actually start printing and burning. And how in the world am I going to keep the design theme unified across the nine discs?
You’re killing me! 😉

OK! I’m done with my new Star Wars Covers. Use them, if you want to.

Thanks for sharing, I love the way you used the manga art set!
Another option, again not my artwork, just a different approach.

Still working on the seventh. The front took a while to make 😃 I might remove the stars though. But first, on to the back!
I’m going to try to make slipcovers now.
