They could do like they did with the Star Trek Blu-ray's pair fans with people involved in the production of other parts.

I will put my name in the hat.

They could do like they did with the Into Darkness Blu-ray and leave assembling a bonus disc to the fans?

I think they would be very smart to get Robert Harris involved.  As for the commentary tracks--if they got Lucas to do them, he'd bitch and moan the whole way through...

As Bonus I'd like to see all trailers that were on The Definitive Collection.

Roger Christian recently confirmed rumours of digital versions becoming available in November 2014.  It's possible these will be the original versions.

 When/where was this?

Last week's episode of Rebel Force Radio.

It would be nice to own the OUT on Blu-Ray, but I don't see the point when Harmy's Despecialized Editions are on the internet. But to each his own I suppose.

So you're saying that you see no benefit in upgrading a recreation (which by necessity will never quite be ideal) based on very low quality sources with a proper restoration? That's... odd.

And I would savor every single second of his bitching at that point :)

I imagine they'd have to give the fans something to do after an official release of the OOT. Assuming it wouldn't turn out to be another GOUT ;)

It would be the DOU[B]T, since George wouldn't be involved anymore. As in, "we'll doubt that we'll ever get the OOT."

Harmy is updating his projects and I with patients the Despecialized Editions will be just as good as the Blu-Rays. Plus with ANH:R already out and ESB hopefully coming soon I would never watch the unaltered version of STAR WARS and ESB again.

His work is incredible, but it doesn't change the fact that there aren't HD transfers from the negatives available for some shots.

But let's face it, even if they release an OOT bluray, something will still be imperfect and fixed by the fans.

Exactly. If this release ever happens, it's likely to be deficient in some manner and destined to become merely a better-quality source... which would still be fantastic as far as I'm concerned, because that's what we need.

Better quality source is what its all about.  If there are some commentaries or, (dare we hope,) they actually give us the original trilogy... bonus

Here's hoping, but I still think the earliest they will see blu would be 2017, as a 40th Anniversary thing.

Sure, Despecialized is fantastic, but we have to remember that not everyone knows about it or knows how to get it, or even knows that anything has been changed on the Blu-ray. This is for the Common Man, the one who maybe doesn't even realize they've changed things. Heck, it'd be for me if I hadn't taken a wrong turn on the internet one day to fall into this forum.

Has Disney ever done a release in cooperation with another major studio?

 Does BBC Films count?

Ol’ George has the GOUT, I see.

CatBus said: Technicolor prints retain their color better than most anything else (assuming they got the right color to begin with, which was a bit of an issue with Technicolor in its earlier days, but not really with Star Wars), so for a color reference, you could do a lot worse.  So I agree wholeheartedly with Fang Zei, if you replace "can" with "should".

Speaking of color references, what did they use as a color reference when creating 97 ESB and 97 ROTJ?

Do...you not understand that that's what we're talking about? An official blu-ray release of the original unaltered trilogy?

No idea. Even though they had Technicolor prints for Star Wars, I doubt they used them.  Since the only reason for using a color reference is for historical accuracy, and historical accuracy was already out the window with the Special Editions, my guess is they just winged it for all three films.

I think he is saying (and it is hard to know if that really is his point) that he feels that when Adywan finishes his revisited trilogy, that will be his definitive version of the OT.

That's how I understood it as well. And the same goes for me--once Adywan is done ESB:R, that will be my definitive version. The same goes for ROTJ:R and ANH:R:HD. I can't speak for the prequel trilogy yet, but his will probably replace the originals unless he isn't able to finish them in the end.

So basically what we have is a one-post rumor that, somewhere out there is another uncited rumor that one person said there might be an attempt at an OT release if it's feasible?

Well, I wouldn't be quite as credulous as all that about it.

Do you mean credulous, or incredulous? I wouldn't be as incredulous, though I have some doubts that the DOUT will ever become a reality.

If a proper restoration of the OOT came out, I would be the first in line to buy it - the DeEd is far from perfect with some of its sources being pretty low quality, but mainly the fan preservations were never meant to replace official releases, just supplant them until they are available.

I meant credulous.  Puggo sounded like he thought the rumor was 99% BS.  I thought he was lowballing it.
