*I read the rest of the retailers will be very close to BB but many of the sites weren't updated yet, and Circuit City's was down for updating at the time I wrote this.

anxiously awaiting black friday sale lists for all the stores, but seriously these would have to drop to at least $5 and more realistically $3 before I even consider picking them up. $10 isn't quite what I was hoping for.

Don't hate me, everyone. I might not even pick them up just so I can stand by what I wrote in that angry email six months ago, and plus if the movies don't get remastered we're screwed either way.

The sale is on NOW at the brick and mortar as well as the online store. No need to wait for Friday's insanity. I knew these DVDs would eventually come down this far, so I've finally gone ahead and picked them up. Glad I waited. Apologies to those who didn't, unless you got a tin or financed your purchase via auctioning off said tin.

BTW, I don't think there is any way that if the OUT appears in a 2007 30th Anniv. box set, it will be any different from this non-anamorphic "bonus disc" version. So I'm comfortable settling with this as the definitive official DVD release of Star Wars as we know and love it. Might things change with HD-DVD/BluRay? Maybe, but that's such a long way off that I'm not even thinking/worrying about it.

I can't believe how many people still fall for LFL's lies and gimmicks....their history shows exactly what they are about: screwing people over!!! I *almost* fell for this trap but thankfully I resisted; heck if I wanted them, I could buy them this week for exactly HALF of what they were a few months ago!

So what does this price drop tell us? IMO one of three things: 1) retailers had a hard time moving them and have a lot left over or 2) they sold so well that retailers know this lower price will be an even bigger smash and/or 3) there is something MUCH bigger in the works for '07 and once that drops, these won't move at all. Yes, the sales pitch from day one was "Dec. 31st they will be GONE!" But will retailers really pull the ones that didn't sell off of their shelves? I highly doubt it...

Most of them have been available for some time at multiple sites.

And it looks like Best Buy's ad is now available on their website.

Anyhow, I've yet to see the Star Wars DVDs appear in any Black Friday ads.

I think the price drop is due to #1 so that they can fulfill their "promise" that they'll be gone by year's end. Otherwise they have to come up with a spin on yet another falsehood.

The problem is that this is basically the 3rd DVD release of Star Wars- the '04 DVD set with bonus disc, the '05 DVD set without bonus disc but new case, and the '06 GOUT. They've gone to the well too many times, IMHO. They've sold the discs to the collectors, SE fans, and now O-OT fans, as well as the people who "sorta like" Star Wars, so now have to get them cheap enough to sell to people who are only mildly interested in them to buy them.

Eh, I'd pick 'em up for $10. That's about what I drop on lunch every day, so a slightly cleaner version than my bootlegs of original Empire and Jedi for the price of two lunches is a no-brainer for me (I already bought Star Wars at full price, oh well).

I picked up the tin at Best Buy for $60, which itself was a big chunk of change cuz I could've gotten them cheaper than that if I didn't go for the tin. Either way, I can't say I regret the purchase. It'd be awfully nice if Best Buy sent me a check for $30, but I'll live and I dont regret it too much.

Did Lucas become CEO of Best Buy recently?
"Among many things I have to be thankful for are you, the fans. I know that some of you haven't liked every single thing that I've done with the saga, and that you have a strong sense of ownership over all things Star Wars. But take that passion and devotion and channel it into a creative project of your own."

What stores if any would still have their exclusive bonuses. (As the Star Wars site claims) Best Buy recently had them on sale for $14.99 so I'm surprised they're dropping more.
Have the sets sold well? I mean my local Borders has a shelf of it's top 10 selling dvds which it puts on sale. A month ago all three were on there. Is is safe to say they have outsold the ridiculous SE Trilogy set without the bonus disc yet?
Oh well, I bought Star Wars with the comic book and later got Empire, both for under 15 each so I don't feel that screwed.

Take back the trilogy. Execute Order '77

For those who already got it... think about how much you have enjoyed watching the greatest movies of all time in the best possible quality (official or bootleg) in the 2 or so months it's been since its release. Is that worth the extra money?

You know Mark, you're right. I paid high end Block Buster prices at the time of purchase but I was a kid again when I popped in those baby's and I haven't complained since (or did I? my minds in the wash). Now that they're going down in price just means I'll have to pay less for my brother to experience the same feelings for Christmas.

I went to Best Buy today and the tin set (which I want to give to my brother for Christmas) was still $70. Outrageous.

Has anybody found the Best Buy boxed set at the discounted price? Nevermind the discount, I can't find it at any price on their website.

The Wal-Mart flyer said they would be $9.74 each- but only between 5am and 11am on Black Friday. There's no way I'm getting up that early the day after Thanksgiving.

Are there any stores selling them for $9.99 now? I might pick up another set for my nephew.

My anus is bleeding from the price drop, but eh. I'm not too angry, just enjoying the originals even with the quality, ect. Still the same films and I don't have to see Hayden in Episode 6 ect, ect.

9.99 is too much for these films. Maybe you can buy them if you want to remember 1993

I still haven't bought them and don't plan on it either. Not even for $1.99 a piece. I'll wait til next year and get the new set that come out. Hopefully they'll have the originals on them. If not, it won't kill me. I watch the SE 99.9% of the time anyway so no biggie. But I can see how you guys would be pissed at the price reductions.

The price drop is still not a good deal. In fact, this is about the price they should have started selling at--so unless there comes a price drop on the price drop, i don't feel any inclination. Besides, i have a feeling there may be an ace up Lucasfilm's sleeve for the big 2007 box set (cough, remastered OOT).

That would be great, but I wouldn't keep my hopes up sadly. So I just got the legal ones just in case, as we all know how Lucas is.

Edit- I don't have a DVD-R either, so fan edits, ect are out of the question.

I HATE Christmas and try to hide during this time of year but I do have family and friends who insist on buying me gifts (I would rather see them keep their money and do something nice for themselves instead but hey, what can ya do). I did not purchase these discs but since some people in my life just have to get me something, I was thinking about asking for these (but they must swear to me that they do not pay more than $9.99 for them) and leaving them sealed until next year. If '07 brings what I think it will (e.g. the OUT remastered) then I sell them or keep them sealed for future collecting reasons. If it does not than I open the discs and at least have something to watch, as my VHS copies won't be around forever...

...hmm...decisions, decisions...

Yeah, I bought the Tin for 60 bucks. Now I feel totally ripped off...oh well. The family is leaving on a road trip Thursday, so I think I'll be missing out on the Black Friday sales anyway. Don't you just hate it when life does that?

And I'd laugh my ass off if Best Buy announced tomorrow that they were dropping the price of the PS3 to 300 dollars for a day. LOL....People would still be paying 3000 online anyway...
