Info Wanted: Best laserdisc transfer? 2006 GOUT or fan made? GOUT Upscale?

I was just wondering whether or not it would be possible to create a higher quality transfer than the official 2006 GOUT. That way, an upscale by someone like Dark Jedi(who’s done a fantastic job) would look even better. What’s the best fan laserdisc transfer? Is it possible to do better?

Look for the OUT Rules transfer. apparently it’s incredible looking. Previously, someone had attempted a transfer using the best LD player ever released (Pioneer X0), but I believe some deaths ended that one. Any GOUT upscale will have more detail regardless. It came straight from the master tapes, and being on DVD, generally has more detail than is possible with Laserdisc. My preferred upscale is the DJ GOUT V3, but he also worked as a part of Team Blu and they did another fantastic upscale of Star Wars (77/97) alone.

AFAIK, nobody who was involved with the X0 project is pining for the fjords. This is how silly rumors get started.

Where were you in '77?

In some ways, yes, and in some ways, no.

The GOUT has more horizontal detail, but they blurred up the vertical detail (an attempt to fix the aliasing?), and blurred up all the motion detail on Eps. IV and V with DVNR.

Technidisc Ep IV has rainbowing baked into it, the picture is a bit softer, and the colors fluctuate a bit.

JSC Ep IV has artificial sharpening applied and (possibly fixable?) chroma shift.

Film reel preservation is the future.
