Endor. You've got two fleets, you know who's in charge of each fleet, each fleet's objective, each fleet's disposition, and it's easy for the casual viewer to distinguish the Rebels from the Imperials. It's also exciting and has lots of neat models and bright, colorful flashes. That's how a movie battle should be.

Hoth is a close second ... maybe tied. For most of the same reasons, just replace fleet with army (in the general sense of a land-based force).

The death star battle in ANH, or excuse me Star Wars, cause it has a mix of everything: Drama, Tension, Seriousness, Great Action, and elation.

The battle is the greatest in scifi movies, IMO, cause it is so realistic since they used old dog fighting footage from WWII and tried to recreate many of the moves with the X-Wing fighters. It is also great, cause you are in Lukes seat the whole time, and that is what movies are about, you are suppose be living inside that character through the movie, and when he blows up the death star, it is probably the greatest moment in movie history for me.

I’m an original member here dating back to 2004. Haven’t posted in years, but looking forward to posting again.

A tie between the Death Star battle in "Star Wars" and the Battle of Hoth. Both equally awesome.

I voted Hoth because its intense and the technical stuff going on is even more impressive than flying inside the Death Star at Endor. The Death-Star-I battle in the original is third most impressive battle in my mind, though easily the most memorable of the series.

Hmmm I'm tempted to say the RotJ battle since it's so full of drama but...Technically and sentimentally the best to me is the original star wars one. The editing, the pacing, the fx, porkins, the acting, it's all bliss for me. Even though I know how it ends, it still works. It's lyrical in a way.

I had to pick The Battle of Yavin, it is such a great climax to the film, and most of the others if not all have their plus points but this one is special, as it has bit of everything in it, and have never got bored with it even after all these years....

Hard to say... I voted for the Death Star I battle mainly because of the great attention to detail that was given to the effects. Unlike in ROTJ, the ships don't simply explode into a fireball when hit, they each go down in their own individual way. My favorite would have to be Gold 5(?), whose right engine spins off when hit before he goes down in flames.

That having been said, the Battle of Hoth is an amazing technical achievement, and the Death Star II battle is amazingly simple to follow considering it uses all three axis' and multiple ships (unlike say, Independence Day, in which it's very confusing to tell who is who).

I don't have much to say for the Episode II and III battles but the lightsaber dual in Episode I had some great stuntwork and coreography.

I said the Battle of Yavin. It was pretty close for me among the OT choices, but I still get excited and tense when Vader's chasing down Luke in that trench.

There is no lingerie in space…

Yavin. It would be Endor if it focused only on the space battle.

I was really torn. Though I voted for the Hoth battle I'm wondering if I hadn't gone for the Yavin, but the Hoth battle has the coolest spaceship effects over it. I mean, when that star destroyer is hit with ion canon and it lists away, it's power sapped, just makes me grin! The ROTJ doesn't have anything cool like that. Many times it feels like its not as good as it should be, but I agree with the drama of it, and that's what makes me root for it!

Though all else of the TPM battle is lame, the part I like is the "arm" of that TF ship being blown off and floating away. Tres cool.

The Battle of Scarif is my favorite in Star Wars. When I was in the theater on opening night, the crowd went crazy when Red Leader and Gold Leader appeared. I still remember the reaction every time I watch it, and it really adds to my enjoyment. Great memories!

The original approach to the Death Star with the X-wings and Red Squadron’s run on the trench in Star Wars. That is my favorite.

The best in terms of number of shots and the difficulty in achieving them technically is the Battle of Endor and the final epic space battle. Then the Battle of Hoth and how painstaking the work was to hand animate the stop motion AT-AT Walkers.
