aside from the laserdisc and vhs is there any better source of this movie? I know it gets aired occasionally and many pages back someone said they aired it in HD, but the quality was no better. There’s several illegal dvds on ebay and a it supposedely gets screened in 35mm once in awhile. Netflix and Amazon have a streaming option for it, does anyone know of anything better out there?

There are a couple of HD rips on the Spleen. No idea how they all compare.

The HD rips on MySpleen look pretty great, especially compared to Laserdisc and VHS.

good to know, I’m currently looking to get a copy of the book to get a better grip of what “may” have been cut from the movie.

Hi, which one do you think is the best? Thanks.

I’d say the HDTV 720p. Although it’s 720p and not 1080i, it is at a far higher bitrate, so I’d bet it looks better.

Great, 1080i is 540p which is worse than 720p.

They all come from a 1080i source and are all upscales of awful-looking, smeary SD material. They should look mostly identical. I would choose the one labeled “AU HDTV - 2 Audio Tracks,” because it was rencoded by a forum member (Chewtobacca) at 24fps.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture DE - The Anti-DNR Fanedit
Duel (1971) - The Hybrid Cut
The Phantom of the Opera - 1925 Version Reconstruction - Rare Scores Collection - Roy Budd Score

The movie is currently airing on TCM Cinéma in France, entitled “La Forteresse noire”. It’s in actual 2.35:1, looking quite good in HD, though it looks soft. Probably not a real HD master. I wish I could extract the recording from the hard drive of my Freebox, but I can’t, it’s protected. I’ve never seen the movie, but I’ll give it a shot sooner or later.
