Beatles Thread

It has been too long since we have had a Beatles thread and let me ask you one thing. What did you think of Across The Universe? I though it was very delightful.

What is your favorite Beatle cover? I'd have to say Joe Cockers Without a Little Help From My Friends which is possibly better than the original.

I enjoyed Across the Universe, and I own it on DVD, but I think it was overhyped.  The visuals were great, and so were the covers of the songs, but the story really couldn't hold up on its own.  It literally seemed like a ton of music videos haphazardly strung together.  Granted, they were very good music videos.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

I didn't think it was very well-done story wise, but it was quite fun to see in various altered states while it was still in theatres.

And I can't fault it because through that movie I discovered the Secret Machines, who are now my favorite post-2000 band.

For some reason, I hated "Across the Universe", mostly because I couldn't stand the covers. And yet, I saw "I'm Not There" and I thought the covers were great. Explain this to me, somebody?

Nope, never wanted to see AtU based on the trailer. I've never seemed to enjoy films that have extrapolated music and themes by The Beatles in order to create a project not centered around the Beatles as a group. On the other hand, the 1968 animated film "Yellow Submarine" was enjoyable and acceptable by my standards. I saw the 1999 re-release in a theater packed with Beatles fans, what an experience!

Does anyone remember the slightly amusing but mostly forgettable "I Wanna Hold Your Hand (1978)" directed by Robert Zemeckis, or "Birth of the Beatles (1979)" directed by Richard Marquand?  I don't think they ever had a DVD release, have they?

A far as favorite Beatles cover...
