Batman Series Edit (Released)

 (Edited)

With the new dark knight series on the go, I decided that it was time to do an edit of the first batman franchise. My main goal is to connect the films together better. I am discluding Batman And Robin from my edits though, so it will begin with Batman’89 and end with Forever. For starters, I got rid of allot of the crap that was in Forever. I did a score over hall in the film as well, using music from the first two. The way the movies are set up is like this; Bruce Wayne continues to have flash backs of his parents deaths. {I used the flash back scene from '89 and inserted it in Returns and Forever in places that worked} I got rid of the new flash back scene used in Forever ans used the '89 one. This concept is basically what the series is about now. Once Bruce gives the doll back at the end of Forever, it makes so much more sence now, and is a good closure to the original series. Before I tell you anymore, can somebody post the cover of the Region 2 Batman Returns dvd cover. I need a good quality one for my custom dvd cover. I;ve looked everywhere, but I can only find ones with different languages. DVD active is the only good one, but it has ugly watermarks on them.

This is probably too small for you, eh?:

I've always liked Batman Forever, but at the same time it's frustrating to think what might have been if Burton and Keaton would have stayed. Unfortunately no amount of fan editing can change that, but it would be interesting to see how an Elfman score and reduced camp helps the movie. Did you use any of the deleted scenes in your edit?

I used all the deleted scenes except for the hair salon scene, which didn't go well with the film. Thanks for the link! I just tried it out on my cover, too small, you were right. Thanks for the help though!

Sure! The more ideas and concepts the better. The movie is already better just from the small things I've done so far. Bring 'em on!

Well, my idea will require major music replacement for BF. And I have already a plan on my mind for a re-edit on BF... I just need an experienced editor as an advisor and all....

I tell you, its pretty huge...

Did you by any chance work out any of the continuity issues between the films such as the fact that in the two Burton Batmans, Bruce Wayne is a reclusive hermit who spends all his life sitting behind a big computer waiting for something bad to happen? As opposed to the Bruce Wayne in Forever who actually has a job and and has more of a playboy persona.

As much as I could.

While ShiftyEyes makes a valid point, I really don't see how anything could be done about that. May I ask what you did in this area, L&W Fan?

Here's a random thought on the Burton/Schumacher Franchise that may help you as it has me:

It's true there IS a story arc for Batman over the 3 films. Just watch the Bruce/Dick scene in BF where they talk about revenge. It's basically telling you what Batman has gone through thusfar. The major asthetic change from BR to BF is distracting to be sure, but it's still telling the same story. You have to look at it from the perspective of a comic book. Batman: Year One, The Long Halloween, and Dark Victory are all part of a trilogy more or less, but there is a major asthetic change from YO to TLH, because Jeph Loeb takes over to replace Frank Miller. While that change wasn't necessarily for better or for worse, and the change in the movies is generally considered for the worse, it's a larger leap, but it's still the same concept. So for what it's worth, that's how I came to accept BF as the conclusion of the Batman Trilogy.

Well, Keaton's Bruce Wayne threw a big charity ball in the first movie. In the second, he had a normal business meeting with Christopher Walken, so he wasn't a total recluse. This is a very cool project. Elfman music and desaturating all the frickin colors might help a lot, sort of like Sleepy Hollow. Who knows, maybe if Burton had stayed it might've looked that way. Be brutal when cutting it to get that somber tone!

Can you list the changes you're gonna make for the Batman series? I'm very interested in seeing what you have in mind for the re-edits....

I could then list mine, too.

I'll list the changes I've made, but first I need to download the soundtracks of the first two films. Does anybody know where I can?

If you're really going ahead with this project then you should try and get the CD and rip it to WAV. MP3 isn't great quality for editing into a movie soundtrack.

So you are just changing BF, right? You're not doing anything to the masterpieces that are Batman & Batman Returns, correct?

The only changes I made to the first two were to help create a trilogy feei to all three. For example, Billy Dee is no longer called Harvey Dent, he isn't called by name whatsoever. In Returns, the movie ends with Alfred and Bruce driving down the snow road, the scene of Catwoman looking at the Bat Signal is gone, mostly because I hate it. It's a cheap rip off from '89. Also it shows the viewers that Selina Kyle is in fact dead. Batman Forever, on the other hand, has a ton of changes. Here's the list so far:
-Film begins with WB logo, fades away {Doesn't turn into bat}
-Batman Returns flashback of ending {Penguin dieing, Bruce finding Cat}
-Subtitle reads 5 YEARS LATER
-Cuts to Arkham Asylum scene {Muisc used is the finale from Returns}
-Then goes to Two Face at bank with security guard.
-Batman and Batmobile
-Film then plays out as is.

I cut out allot of the one liners and what not throughout the film, and used allot of music from the first two movies. I re-inserted all of the deleted scenes, except for the baraber shop scene, I just don't like it. If anybody has any suggestions I'm all ears!

Good call on omitting Dent's name from B89; if you're going for a trilogy feel that makes sense. Since you can't fix the Keaton/Kilmer change, you can at least try your best to fix the Williams/Jones change (I just hope it isn't too choppy).

I must say I'm a bit dissapointed with your omission of Catwoman and the Batsignal from the end of BR (I've always liked that ending), but again of you're going for a trilogy it makes sense, as she never appears again. Why the flashback of BR at the start of BF, though? If anything it just draws attention to the fact that Batman is not being played by the same guy.

This is a cool idea. Have you gotten a hold of the B89 score album, yet? If not, I can help you out.

There's one thing that I've really though would help BF, but it would probably very tedious and is definitely SFX-heavy. Take out all the neon stuff. The lights waving around everywhere at the end are annoying, but even before that, there's a ton of stuff. I haven't seen the movie in a while, but there's some stuff (like the...neon spray paint on the walls of Gotham' slummy areas) that sticks out really badly. I realize that it would probably be too extensive, but it's surely a thought--and maybe someone out there reading who has a lot of experience in that kind of digital effects work and a load of freetime could give it a shot?

But again, no matter what, kudos on the cool idea, man!
