Here's what a cached info says:

This rare cut of Batman forever features the following differences from the regular mass marketed version:
-30 minutes removed
-New scenes (Bruce in the Cave with the Giant Bat, Bruce thinking about quitting, Bruce talking to Dick in the Weight room) etc...
-Danny Elfmans score is back in the movie! His classic dark theme for Batman has returned!
-The Vegas like Gotham is gone!
-Added some filters on the video to removed pink and red colors and replaced with a dark bluish tint
-Lots of the corny dialogue from Riddler and Two Face is removed
-New Opening (Two face escapes arkham)
-New Credits, matching Batman (1989 and Batman Returns)
-New Ending: A view of Gotham City with Batman at the top of a building, ala the previous two batman films.

Seems to be it.. Don't it?

I may be in the minority, but I don't want "Tim Burton's Batman Forever." You can't fake that someone else directed a movie, no matter how talented an editor you are. I want Joel Schumacher's original vision of Batman Forever, for no other reason than he's the one who directed the movie! I think it was a great popcorn movie, and with his darker scenes re-inserted, and arranged as scripted, who knows? It may have been a match to Tim Burton's original.

I don't want 30 minutes deleted; I want 30 minutes ADDED!

As stated before, The original post said the runtime was 125 mins, even with the deleted scenes put back in, there is no WAY 30 mins were removed for TDKE. Also from doing some research on this recently, I don't think the intention was to make Batman Forever a Tim Burton film, but rather too make it feel like part of the series in connection to the other 2 films. There is no doubt BF lost a a great deal by not having Elfman's Bat theme.

The film as is is 125 minutes, and perhaps by deleting 30 minutes, he added those 30 minutes from the deleted scenes. Who knows, really?

I'll be downloading Paulisdead2221's edit, so I'll see for myself what are we talking about.

There are not 30 mins of deleted scenes on the dvd, so where did he get the 30 mins from?

Author

Yeah, but he's nowhere to be found.

Damn it, why can't this re-edit see the light of day? Its almost what I would've done with BF... Sounds godly and all, and its nowhere to be found.

... Its frustrating, isn't it?

We need to find Drake Retro to see if this info lines up.

Supposedly, about 45 minutes were cut:

http://www.batman-on-film.com/opinion_scissorpuppy_forever.html

Only about half that made it to the DVD Deleted Scenes. They were going to do a full Director's Cut but cheaped out. I think we need a talented fan editor to step up and cut something as close to the original cut as possible using the deleted scenes.

you know,  maybe blu-ray will come with these deleted scenes that supposedly make the film darker; and then, those could be re-incorporated and possibly replace the cheesier ones.  Who knows?

For the way the film ended up going, I agree with you. But as a 3rd chapter in the batman story ( which from my understanding is what TDKE was trying to do), the film looses alot by not using elfmans theme. I never said Goldenthals music was bad, his batman theme is actually pretty good.

If 45 mins of deleted material was cut, far less than half appeared on the dvd. I think it's around 13 mins. Which even if it was all put back into the film, there is no way 30 mins could have been deleted from BF and have a 125mins runtime.

Did alittle digging and found a comic book forum where Drake Retro still posts. Evidently this topic came up.

Here is what he had to say...

Wow...

I regret the day I ever mentioned this to anyone on the internet.
It seems no matter where I go, I am found and asked about this.

NO. I don't have access to the edit. I wish I did. The one person who was going to give me a copy got pissed ( out of nowhere ) after I posted a screencap of the edit. This person started blocking my emails soon after. Ever since I have been called so many names on boards like Superherohype, Basically had my screen-names @ SHH, BOF and personal email accounts stalked by crazy fanboys. Demanding for me to show the edit or "be sorry", seriously someone actually said that.

Look, the story goes like this. I was at a party in L.A. about 2 years ago. Late in the night ( around 2am ) I went into a room where people where watching Batman Forever.
Only the strange thing was it had music from the Burton films. ( Being very familiar with Elfman's scores, I also noticed that some of the tracks were from the batman trilogy cd. Which were re-recordings) It was near the start of the film, so I asked if anyone minded if we could restart it. Everyone was cool about it, and it started over.

It basically restored the original timeline from the script (using what material was available), and added in Elfman's score. The color was altered a little, but the look of forever was still intact. Not much you can do about neon. Some of the less overblown, less campier tracks from Forevers score were left in tact.

I was told the editor ( who was at the party, but I never found out who he was ) gave out 10 copies of them. I was also told the film was edited on an professional avid system. The guy who was showing his copy ( the one I was watching )
offered to make me a copy. This was also the guy who gave me the screencap. I told him the online fans had been dying to see this and it should be shared with them. He thought it would be a good idea too.
I offered to make and print a custom dvd cover in trade for a copy of the edit.

I started posting info on various fan edit sites. Soon after my contact started acting strange, not wanting to share his copy.

I never heard from him again...

My guess is the editor found out about me posting stuff online and got pissed.
My trail has gone cold, and that's that. I'm legit, many people can vouch for that.
It's just, well I got nothing more to share...

I too hope it comes to light one day.

I PMed Drake Retro on that message board about this edit. Here is what he had to say.

Hmmm, Interesting that another edit has popped up online. I did notice this on ebay, (because I still do keep an eye on fan edit sites from time to time) and while it looks interesting. It's not the dark knight edit. Well not the one I saw at least. Here is why. (I will rundown the info you gave me.

-30 minutes removed

The first thing that caught my eye. The DKE didn't have this much footage removed. Infact it didn't have much removed at all. Scenes were trimmed not removed. I can't think of one "whole" deleted segment at all.

-New scenes (Bruce in the Cave with the Giant Bat, Bruce thinking about quitting, Bruce talking to Dick in the Weight room) etc...

I don't remember every detail, since it has been awhile since I have seen this BUT The Bruce in the weight room scene was NOT added back into the DKE that I saw. It seems like I would remember that.

-Danny Elfmans score is back in the movie! His classic dark theme for Batman has returned!

Yes it was, Goldenthal's score was also still in the film. As I said before, the less campier tracks were left intact.

-The Vegas like Gotham is gone!

Where did it go? Maybe the city shots are gone and that's where the 30 or so mins went. TDKE still has gotham as is.

except for some color tweeks..

-Added some filters on the video to removed pink and red colors and replaced with a dark bluish tint

TDKE desaturated the color a tad, and then put a slight blue filter ontop of that. This discribtion and the screencaps

you provided show something alot more drastic than that.

-Lots of the corny dialogue from Riddler and Two Face is removed

TDKE does remove some of this.

-New Opening (Two face escapes arkham)

TDKE has this aswell

-New Credits, matching Batman (1989 and Batman Returns)

Matching? Not really, that would require new footage. In the same vein, TDKE uses the credits over blue fog/Smoke/Clouds. Similer to the title seq in The Crow City of Angels.

-New Ending: A view of Gotham City with Batman at the top of a building, ala the previous two batman films.

Really? Where did this footage come from? Dropping Batman 89's ending in there? That wouldn't work at all.

TDKE uses a shot of the Batsignal egniting the sky as the last shot.

So if the question is, Is this the same fanedit you saw?

Then the answer is no. Although it sounds interesting the descriptions sound like the editor took the project a little to far. You still have to work within the film you have. Batman Forever will never be a Tim Burton film, but it can be a better 3rd and final entry into the original film series. Coincidently, I've recently come upon someone who is helping me in my search. I will keep you posted. I am hesitant however to post anymore info on a forum, because I don't want to get people's hopes up. I learned my lesson last time.

I think we need a talented fan editor to step up and cut something as close to the original cut as possible using the deleted scenes.

I have discussed this with my team and we are interesed in and edit. I have begun to start putting together DVDs, and to obtain other footage. Keep in mind it took me over a year (EACH) get all the footage and material we needed for the Highlanders and Dune. Right now we are working on Superman - The Movie - then two other projects. BUT after that it's a possibilty.

What we would want to do would be to get together (in email format) with someone who has saw this edit. If we are to truely re-create this edit (or close to it) then we  will have to start with discussions with people who have scene it.

To do Batman Forever JUSTICE is what we would be looking for.  Nothing can take away from an actuall official released verion of a film but we can attempt ( LIKE DUNE AND THE HIGHLANDERS) to create a WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN!

So, like Highlander, Dune, Supeman, Superman II,  Kong, I will need your help.

I have purchased the Batman Forever - Special Edition

What else alternate footage, audio, etc, is out there that we can get our hands on?

I heard something about the blue screen ending? Were is this footage? Is their footage in  trailers also? I want to get all this stuff together so that when we do start we will be ready to go.  Again, this is a future project, we are already working on a ton of things right now so don;t expect TODAY, lol! Everyone knows Phineasbg and our edits soemtimes take a year to complete. BTW!! DUNE - THIRD STAGE  IS offically done, thanks god, lol!

Thanks

Remember, Highlander, you’ve both still got your full measure of life. Use it well, and your future will be glorious.

Also, I can verify what DrakeRetro said, as I've talked to the ebay seller, and he confirms all the above info - but it is not a fan edit that was publisized either here or on fanedit.org. It is a previously unknown one.

If DrakeRetro says its not the TDKE, then its not. But it is something that is close to what that edition tried to do.

OK, I asked him to send the re-edit to me, he sad OK, but when I told him I live in Greece, he said "shit, you lvie in Greece? Uhhhh.. Hmmm."

Those precise words. I've been trying to reach him since, but he doesn't respond to any of the e-mails I sent.

Its been two days the above, last message, btw.

I still think an Elliot Goldenthal score would suit this movie best. This guy retouched the deleted scenes with the original score:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSp9JVouQsI

A great way to please everybody would be to have two tracks to switch between: the Goldenthal and the Elfman.

The mystery about the ebay disc is solved, and just be glad you didn't buy it.

Posting on it here.

http://www.batmanmovieonline.com/forum/index.php?topic=338.0

And here is the movie.

http://demeterpictures.com/batman.html

Overall decent idea, but he should have spent more time on it. And the edits to the peice are jarring.

Not to mention the soundtrack being cut up. I have sent this to DR and he said this is definantly NOT the dark knight edition.

Author

But if it is a decent enough i dea then it might make a good reference for someone working on a more refined edit, right?

Given that TDE seems to be difficult to locate.

Author
Time

Sure, but the biggest problem with this an other edits is it trys to make the film Burton's batman 3.

Which the film isn't and never will/can be. Only two things can be done to help this film IMO. One

is an extended edition, adding in the delted scenes and keeping the tone of schmachers film. Or two, some clever editing of music and camp to help the film "flow" alittle better as a 3rd film in the series. Which from my understanding is what BTDKE tried to do.
