To the rest of the baseball guys around here; Is this the greatest rotation of all time? And for the record, I seldom (if ever) use that term, but I'm going to have to ponder some of the rotations I've seen through the years and think if any were as loaded 1-4 as the Phillies are now. Glavine, Maddux, Smoltz, Millwood comes to mind quickly - or Palmer, Cuellar, Dobson, McNally.
On ESPN they had a stat about ERA+, which is some advanced metric that takes into account the era (40's, 70's, 2000's, etc.), the league, the ballpark, etc. They said that only three teams have ever had four pitchers above a 130 (whatever that number means). One was a team from the 40's (can't remember who). One was the Braves with Glavine/Smoltz/Maddux/Millwood. And one is the 2011 Phillies.
Thank god the Cubs will suck anyway next year. No worries about losing to the Phils in the playoffs.
