Disney-fication?
Disney-fication?
I hate Disney World. It certainly doesn't need to pollute New York.
There is no lingerie in space…

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

My wife would be very jealous if I told her about the shows. Going to NYC and going to shows is one of the things she wants to do very badly.
Or two of the things...

The desire of political and corporate entities to eliminate adult situations / experiences so everything is suitable for children under the age of 10. But that's just the cover to make sure that 'they' remain the brand you see, not smaller organizations with alternative viewpoints.

Too late for parts of Manhattan, they pushed into Time Square, and now it's a white wash of mega media, lower Manhattan in the last 10 years pushed out the small and installed housing that only the well-to-do can afford. They've pushed independent peoples out into the other boroughs. Used to go to great book stores and see weird musical acts in great clubs and they're all closed or moved out of Manhattan.

They're a firm from Florida, so this building doesn't really fit in with the NYC look, but since it's near Time Square they get away with it, somewhat, plus the city is changing so the look fits in part with the Disney-fication which is polluting the once vibrant city....
If by Disney-fication you mean that building looks like it's from TRON you're right.
And if by polluting you mean making more awesome you're right.
TRON RULES!
There's no doubt that Times Square is very different from when I lived there. Much cleaner and much safer now. That said; I miss some aspects of the Times Square of old. I miss the giant signs made out of lights - they've almost all been replaced by generic-looking, building-sized HD video boards, all showing uber high-res advertisement videos. I miss the local restaurants, all replaced by national chains.
Disneyfication is correct. However, I also know that the Times Square of my years looked like an eyesore to people who lived there and remembered it from the 50s, the 30s, etc. It's always changing, so we all have our preferred version.
Truth be told, Times Square was filthy and dangerous when I lived there. If you want to get an idea of what it was like, watch Night Shift. That's the New York of my time living there, at least through rose-colored glasses. That's what I do when I'm feeling nostalgic. When I need a reminder that Disneyfication isn't necessarily a bad thing, I watch Taxi Driver. It's a reminder of how rough and filthy Midtown really used to be.
That grittiness is still there, big time, but these days it is different in the theater district (Times Square area) - and that's not a bad thing. It's nice to be able to walk down the street and not always have to look over your shoulder.
*edit*
Here's a film made from when i lived there. This is the Times Square I don't miss at all.

I'm shocked.

What can I say, man. You know - urges. ;-)
My favorite memory of New York was walking back to the water-bug infested 'hotel' I was staying in about three in the morning, in the snow, dressed as Dracula (top hat/cape/ fangs/cat's eye contact lenses) and being followed by a guy carrying a white overcoat on a hanger covered in plastic, trying to sell it to me and constantly knocking the price down despite my consistent pleads of poverty.
I love New York.
^ The story of your life.
It's the story of a section of one early morning in my life, hardly representative of the whole thing as many moments have been much more remarkable (and most have been much less).
What is one of the more remarkable stories?
Anchorhead, your photo reminds me of Blade Runner.
Personally, I love NYC. I've been there a few times for work and even coming from a "big city" like Toronto, I'm always in awe of it. Of course, to me, it seems cleaner than here, but then I wasn't around for those scuzzy days in the 70s and 80s when it was a bit of a shit hole. But as far as North American cities go, there's no place like NYC. Wouldn't want to live there, not by any means, but a terrific place to visit. I haven't worked there since 2007 or so, but I miss it.
