DAMN, CLIFFGANGER ENDINGS !!! TO BE CONTINUED, AGAIN...

Yeah, last week's ep was exceptional, to say the least. I thought the music cue when Apollo had Boomer against the wall, then they cut to commercial was excellent. Dying for tonight's conclusion. Only 3 more left in the season after tonight. Going to be a long few months.

Thoughts on last night's episode?
*insert Ben Stein monotonal voice
Anyone?
Anyone?

When hearing the commercials, where an unfamiliar male voice is saying "You take the captain, I'll get the son." I first thought they had a second cylon in the mix.

There was a comment made about the type of gun Boomer and the other guy had...about it being an old military issue, I just have this strange feeling we're going to see something about that come up again. There was no reason to point it out unless they mean to do something with it in a later episode.

I found the scene in the brig with Baltar amusing..."There's no chip in your brain, you're just crazy."

And the map, where they are "on Earth" looking at the constellations, I thought that was an interesting way to do that. I didn't think of that as being the way. I thought perhaps they'd find a place to put the arrow, and that would give them a general direction (like the arrowhead from the first Ewoks movie).

did anyone notice that this new galactica was a ripoff of the treatment for the galactica revival by richard hatch, those bastards. Burn in hell branon and braga, you already ruined star trek.

Basically, yes. I've never seen the original, though.

Finally got to watch Home pt 2 - I was quite impressed. If they'd wanted to end season 1 on a non-cliffhanger note, that should have been it. But TWO WEEKS? Ugh ... bastards ... that's when production starts on my play, so I won't be able to watch the last 3 episodes of this half of the season ... damn Sci-Fi for splitting up the season ...

I believe all they were trying to show with this was, in a subtle and for once in TV unspoken way, that Hatch's partner had set up the entire assassination attempt. If Boomer had been shooting on her own by her own choice, she would have only had access (supposedly) to a military issue weapon. When the comment was made about the gun's origin, the next scene showed a matching gun at the dying guy's side. So instead of Boomer whining 'He made me do it, he gave me the gun!' she just kind of coldly (and machine-like) made it obvious to Adama. Remember the dude gave her the gun earlier.

And yes, I've been avoiding this thread as I had DVRd the last 5 episodes and just yesterday (thanks to a cold) had a chance to catch up. I'm still really enjoying the show and am thankful that I was able to catch up *after* the cliffhanger had concluded.

Like DAYV said this is a remake and not a continuation. Actually I've come to feel that its more of a TRUE-make, in that the original (which I loved) focused more on seperate single-episode adventures (ala Star Trek) with only hints for the most part of the 'greater story' whereas this version so far has pretty much been ALL 'greater story' and very little side stuff. The original never had a chance to come into its own because of the few episodes it lasted. It IS well worth a rent if you'd like to check it out, but have an open mind because there is little resemblence really between the two shows. The Cyclons were true alien invaders in the original too, btw, and not human created. (or if they WERE, they never got there in the story )

I'm also glad that Hatch mended his fences and came aboard the new series. I like his character and think he gives an interesting counterpoint to both sides in the human-based conflicts.

Oh and Shim? 'Galactica: 1980' the series never existed. I mean NEVER existed. kinda like the SW prequels... lol- kidding!

THE CYLONS WERE HUMAN CREATED IN THE ORIGINAL SERIES, BUT THAT WAS ONLY TOUCHED UPON IN THE FIRST FEW EPISODES. ONE OF THE BEST EPISODES WAS THE ONE WHERE STARBUCK HAD BEEN SHOT DOWN. THE GALACTICA CREW THOUGHT HE WAS DEAD, SO THEY LEFT HIM MAROONED ON A PLANET. STARBUCK REPROGRAMS A CYLON FOR COMPANY. STARBUCK DOES NOT MAKE IT BACK TO THE GALACTICA.

That was a Gal. 1980 episode, and he didn't make it back - that's the only episode of either series I've seen the whole way through.

Remember and keep repeating to yourself... "there's no such thing as G:1980... there's no such thing as G:1980"

And speaking of Starbuck- I REALLY like the character of Kara Thrace! She's developed into a great stand-alone character who echoes the original but is much, much different.

Hell, I like everyone but Boxey, and he was only in the mini and 1 or 2 episodes of season 1.

My favorite would have to be James Callis' Dr. Baltar. IMO the best actor on the show.

Just to confirm, I've seen only 1 or 2 of the 1980 series, but every episode of the original.
It had to have been during BSG: 1980.

I do, however, remember a scene from an original Galactica episode where Boxie asks Apollo about the Cylons. We learn that the Cylon robots were created by a race of reptilians, also called Cylons. When the race died off, the robots remained and eventually became known as Cylons.

Wikipedia:

In the 1978 Galactica movie and series and the 1980 spin-off, the Cylons were created to serve the reptilian race of the Cylon Alliance. Somehow, just prior to the start of The Thousand Yahren War, the android Cylons made a deal with the mysterious Count Iblis (meaning "Satan" in the Arabic language) and destroyed their biological masters. Only the higher ranking Cylons retain the physical appearence of their creators.

In the 2003 miniseries and 2004 full-length series which "reimagined" Battlestar Galactica, the Cylons are fundamentally different. They were created by humans as robotic workers and soldiers; executive producer Ronald D. Moore has hinted that they were used in wars between the human Colonies. Eventually they gained sentience, rebelled and fought the humans in a major conflict that devastated both sides. An armistice was agreed, following which the Cylons disappeared for over forty years. They returned en masse, launching a sneak attack with nuclear weapons which eliminated most of the colonies (similar to the original Galactica). This is the starting point of the 2003 Battlestar Galactica miniseries.
