Avatar and Politics in general (mild spoilers) — Page 2

Heh, well, I won't throw out the "sexist" debate, mostly because I think it is without merit in this instance. I will state that I do believe that Nanner has not given Palin an opportunity at all. I love her, I'll vote for her, that's all I got to say about that.

I certainly have given her an opportunity. You say she is very intelligent and you would vote for her. Why? I'm being completely sincere here: what has she done that has made you think this? Point me towards anything that will improve my view of Palin, anything at all. I SWEAR I will give it a chance.

(For the record, I have no party affiliation, in case my previous posts have suggested otherwise. Although a lot of times it seems like I fall to the left, that's really only socially; economically I'm actually quite conservative. So whenever I take little internet political quizzes, the two balance each other out and I always get called a centrist :P )

To start, my initial draw to her was that she seemed normal, not a typical slick politician. Then I started listening to her views, I agree with pretty much all of them. Anti-abortion - check, anti-hate crimes laws - check, pro-death penalty - check, anti-big government - big check, anti-gun control - check, devoted mother and wife - check, energy independence - check. If you read Sarah Palin's book and listened to her interviews you'll know that she is hammering away at one simple idea: commonsense conservatism, something I can certainly support.

Put on top of all that, I simply like her approach, I like that she pisses off liberals so badly, that tells me they feel threatened by her. If she was so "ignorant" and "without merit" then they would ignore her, like they do Ron Paul.

Wow, do I really have to list every bullet point I disagree with? Because there's a lot.

There ya' go. I guess it's not so much she's "stupid" or "ignorant" as much as it is that you simply disagree with her positions. I happen to agree with most, which is why I adore her.

even so, I wouldn't vote for her in the next primary if were you.   Unless you want Obama to have another 4 years in the white house.   She doesn't stand a chance against him.

I wouldn't go making that rush to judgment just yet. Seriously, if I were to ask you at the end of 2005 if a crook from Chicago, who happens to be black, would be our next President, you'd have said no.

a crook from Chicago who happens to be black winning the Presidency?  Yeah I'd have said that would be very unlikely, and  I would have been correct.    A crook from Chicago who  happens to be black did not become our next President.  Obama did.

Ron Paul isn't a threat because even Fox News and the republicans ignore him. The liberals know that people are just too stupid to get behind Ron Paul. If the media can manage to keep the attention on a light weight position deserters like Palin, then they've got a pretty sweet setup. During the last election they didn't keep the focus on Obama's race and ignore his policies because they felt his race was a threat; quite the opposite. The media will keep the focus right where they want it to be, and to them, some voices are safer left unheard.

Democrats I know actaully love Palin, because they think she would kill the Republican Party's chances again if she was the 2012 nominee.

And since the day when Republicans can honestly say they don't give a damn about what the Democrats think about them is nowhere in sight; such a nomination probably would cause them to vote themselves out of the race.

Democrats I know actually love Reagan, because they think he would kill the Republican Party's chances again if he was the 1980 nominee.

Umm, makes sense. Talked it over with my Dad, since I was just a one year old at the time, and he said he'd heard this statement before!!!

1980 was a long time ago.  Especially when it comes to media coverage.

Regan was much, much better than Palin.

It's funny how far this thread has drifted away from Avatar and the Politics thread has drifted away from politics.  I blame myself, of course.

well, these things happen from time to time.

Well, I'll try to kick this thread back on topic, seeing as how Avatar passed the 1 Billion mark yesterday and all. I found an interesting review of Avatar by a Conservative who walked away from the movie feeling that it was "a stealth conservative manifesto wrapped up in leftist gobbly gook". I found what he extrapolated interesting.

Have a read!

Disappointing to hear that Avatar did so well. Doesn't say much for the intelligence of moviegoers, who should reject this gimmick-selling preachathon insult to the human race. Well, I haven't seen it and won't.

It looked like it was linking to a non-exisitant OT.com thread.  Works now, thanks.

I still haven't seen Avatar, but pro or con, you gotta admit that "Unobtanium" is one of the dumbest names for something ever.

I want to see it, just to see the 3D effects. It should make for a mildly entertaining 2 hours anyway.

or 3 hours.  Unless you meant to say that only the first 2 hours are entertaining.  Or perhaps the final 2 hours.

eh

Anyways, here's another article dicussing Avatar and Conservatives.  Very intertesting...
