Hello there !

Here are preview screenshots of an upcoming 4K Filmized Remaster of Avatar’s Extended Collector’s Edition.

While the new 4K remaster has been praised all over the net, I’ve never been quite pleased with the oversharpened new image. Starting with the 1080p unaltered bluray, I applied my 4K Filmized Remaster process (Topaz Video AI upscale in 4K with the best settings, then a filmconvert layer of film grain) to get the best natural looking image. It might looks less detailed compared to the offical 4K image but it looks already smoother and less uncanny in motion to me.

Only the extra scenes from the 4K remaster will be reworked from this 4K source. Rest of the movie will be restored from the original 1080p master. The goal is to merge the final master with the unaltered audio mixes in English and Truefrench and its subtitles.

Stay tuned.

Looks great. The 4K version looks way too unnatural.

Would be cool if you created a custom color grade that toned down the piss filter.

You mean a neutral colle grading ? Might check that out but as a separate master then.

Yep, ever since the advent of digital color grading, not only do modern movies constantly receive these unnatural grades, but even older movies suffer from grading revisionism as you’ve shown. Real shame too because the color grading is an important art that seems to be abused with digital tools these days.
