And easier for us you to convert. Every country but the U.S. seems to have no problem converting currency. Luke's trying to buy some of my SW toys off me, but we're having problems with the funds. I'd have to pay a fee to convert his Canadian funds to U.S. and the banks/currency exchanges would charge me exorbitant amounts to do so. What my bank wants to charge me would cost more than what he's paying me for the stuff. Ridiculous. Of course, I haven't heard much from him in the last few weeks. So I don't even know if he still wants the stuff or not.

Don't know how to do a money transfer. Never done one before and have no idea how to set it up. Would a money order still need to be converted from Canadian to US funds?

You can buy money orders in US funds at any Canada Post office or postal outlet.

money transfer from one account to the other... pretty much the same thing that western union does, but only much more direct. but the bastards want you to pay extra if you want it to arrive faster than the usual number of days - dont know how much time they take in the SUA.

I've heard of Western Union but I've never used it nor know how. I wouldn't trust giving my bank account information to a third party anyway. Too paranoid about the ease of identity theft. Why make it any easier to steal from my account than it already would be?

Western Union also deals in cash. No bank account information necessary. I'd still go the money order route though.

i dont know how it is in the US, but here in DK, we are insured automatically by the bank to a certain amount of money, in case it gets stolen if someone should gain access to your visa or something like that.

We are insured through the banks, too. But there is so much red tape to wade through and hoops to jump when something like this happens that it's frustrating as hell and can take months to have the situation resolved. So I try to keep myself out of situations where this could possibly happen.

Yep. Just go to the post office/postal outlet and say, "I'd like to purchase a U.S. money order for *blank* dollars." P.O. does the conversion and charges something like $2 extra for the money order. Not hard at all (kinda like a blind man on a nude beach).

aie aie... i must admit that in DK they are pretty quick with these things.

one of my close friends got his visa card stolen and in weekend the perp withdrew/bought for 12.000 DKK, pretty much 1.800$. it took less than ten days for the bank to reimburse the money and issue a new visa card.
