Star Wars - Attack of the Clones - Revised [PPN2.3]
Trailer
Summary:
If you would like an alternate (possibly better) way to view my edits, check out A Game of Clones. I posted this edit on Reddit a while ago, but I was waiting to post it here until I finished an exhaustive changelog. The big changes are that Padme is the creator of the military creation act. There is no need for Jar-Jar to take her place in the Senate. She just uses holograms to be in the senate meetings. I also tried to cut down the antagonism between Anakin and Obi-Wan. I tried to improve the romance between Anakin and Padme using deleted scenes (no fireplace scene and no pulling away during the kiss). I also added more Dooku setup using Dooku at Qui-Gon’s funeral as the opening scene and adding in the lost 20 scene. Dooku no longer reveals Darth Sidious during his interrogation of Obi-Wan. He instead gives more information about Sifo Dyas and his warning is more vague. The third act is heavily based on what The Phantom Editor did except for the lightsaber duels where I did some new VFX.
Many people have asked me why I’ve spent so much time on this project. I think it’s because of how frustrating it is to watch this film. I’ve always loved Star Wars for as long as I can remember, and the prequels are a huge part of the story. They’re filled to the brim with great ideas. Talking about them is really fun and interesting, but actually sitting down to watch one of them is just boring and confusing. Attack of the Clones was always my least favorite prequel. As a kid, I loved Revenge of the Sith, and I could tolerate The Phantom Menace because of the podrace scene and the final duel. Attack of the Clones just never had any stand out moments. It was simply the black sheep of the prequels for me. It’s the only Star Wars film to pan up instead of down after the opening crawl. It basically has two “A” plots. Obi-Wan’s story and Anakin’s story are intercut (until they collide at the end), but neither really feels prioritized. It looks very strange because it was the first major film to be shot entirely on digital. It was the first time we see Yoda in CGI (other than a brief shot in The Phantom Menace). So, I felt nervous about tackling this film. However, once I started working on it, I began to appreciate it for what it was trying to be.
The Look
Each planet is given its own color palette. Kamino has a blue shift, Tatooine is desaturated, Geonosis is more saturated, Naboo is brighter and more vibrant. I also added some film grain to give it a less digital look.

Timeline:
Full Changelog:
Opening Logos
- I changed the Lucasfilm logo to light blue.
Dooku
- I added a prologue before the opening crawl that shows Dooku at Qui-Gon’s funeral. This helps set up Dooku. It also provides context to his relationship with Qui-Gon since I cut out the line of dialog later in the film where he has to “remind” Obi-Wan that Qui-Gon was once his apprentice.
Attack of the Clones
- No Changes
Return to Coruscant
- I cut out Captain Typho’s line “I guess there was no danger at all” because it telegraphs the explosion. (Based on what The Phantom Editor did)
- I cut out Corde’s line “I failed you” because she didn’t fail Padme. She just did her job. (Based on what Hal9000 did)
Senate Debate
- Padme’s dialog has been edited so that she is in favor of the Military Creation Act. Some of her dialog is generated with AI, but I tried to keep as much of the original performance as possible.
Sparring Session
- I sourced the deepfaked footage from Mecha Salesman’s Kenobi edit.
- I did a light rescore and color grade, but I still kept some of the Obi-Wan theme.
- I replaced the lightsaber sound effects with practice lightsaber sound effects. Please note that the color grading in the YouTube version does not reflect how it looks in the edit. There is also an alternate audio track with the original lightsaber sound effects if you do not like this change.
Chancellor’s Meeting
- I cut out Yoda’s line “seeing you brings warm feelings to my heart” because Padme does not acknowledge this. (Based on what The Phantom Editor did)
- I cut out the entire tangent about spice miners being behind the assassination attempt because it goes nowhere, and it’s better to keep the focus on Dooku. (Based on what Caleb Gamman Did)
- I cut out Bail’s line because it is needless. (Based on what The Phantom Editor did)
- I cut out Windu’s line about Obi-Wan returning from a boarder dispute because we just saw him during the sparring session scene.
Old Friends
- I cut the elevator scene way down because we have already been introduced to Anakin and Obi-Wan through the sparring session scene. I only kept a few lines about how Anakin is nervous because he hasn’t seen Padme in 10 years.
- I cut out Jar-Jar greeting Anakin and Obi-Wan because he says “Ani” while he is hugging Obi-Wan and vice-versa. (Based on what The Phantom Editor did)
- I cut Padme’s line about Anakin always being that little boy she met on Tatooine because it makes it seem like she has absolutely no romantic interest in him.
- I cut out the entire argument between Anakin and Obi-Wan. I used a VFX shot from Caleb Gamman’s edit that imply’s Anakin does not agree with Obi-Wan, but they do not argue at all.
- I cut out Jar-Jar’s line about how Padme is happy to see them. This so that Obi-Wan can be the one to tell Anakin that Padme was pleased to see them. I replicated a VFX shot from Attack of the Phantom for this.
Assassin
- I cut out the entire scene with Jango Fett because I don’t think he should be revealed yet. (Based on what Hal9000 did)
- I also cut out Anakin and Padme’s “plan” to use her as bait.
- I extended Anakin and Obi-Wan’s conversation about dreams. This was done with AI generated dialog. However, I cut to Padme’s bedroom earlier so that I could put a low pass on it and try to hide the fact that it’s AI. I did this so that the focus stays on Anakin’s dreams because this will help validate Anakin’s actions later on in the film (and in Revenge of the Sith). The dialog about Padme is also rather cringe.
- I used a VFX shot from Caleb Gamman’s edit that add’s some dynamic lighting from Anakin’s lightsaber.
- I pulled the entire speeder chase scene from Hal9000’s edit, but I replaced a shot of Zam that showed the “changeling” face with a modified reversed shot from earlier in the chase.
- The speeder chase ends when Anakin stabs his lightsaber into Zam’s speeder. I used a VFX shot from Caleb Gamman’s edit that helps sell it.
- I cut out Anakin loosing his lightsaber because I never found this recurring bit funny honestly. I also don’t like Obi-Wan saying “this weapon is your life.” (Based on what Hal9000 did)
Into the Club
- I cut out Obi-Wan lecturing Anakin about loosing his lightsaber.
- I cut out Anakin’s line about Zam being a “changeling.” This required some retiming and a little VFX work to keep Obi-Wan turned the same way. Anakin just says “I think he is a she” and that’s it.
- I flipped a shot of Anakin walking around in the club because his padawan braid was on the wrong side.
- I used another VFX shot from Caleb Gamman’s edit that adds some dynamic lighting from Obi-Wan’s lightsaber when he cuts off Zam’s hand.
- I cut out Anakin yelling at Zam. I added a low rumble to the scene to imply that Anakin was using some kind of force manipulation. (Based on what Caleb Gamman did)
New Assignments
- I cut out part of Anakin’s line about Padme being the leader of the opposition because she isn’t in this edit. Now he just says “it will be very difficult to get Senator Amidala to leave the capital” and we can just assume that he is referring to the fact that she is trying to get the Military Creation Act passed.
- I cut out the Jedi Council telling Anakin to go talk to Palpatine because it says more about Anakin’s character if he goes to talk to Palptine on his own accord. (Based on what Hal9000 did)
- I cut Padme telling Jar-Jar that she is appointing him to be the representative in her stead. This required some minor VFX work in 1 shot.
- I reordered Padme’s dialog slightly so that she says “I haven’t worked for a year to create the Military Creation Act to not be here when its’ fate is decided” instead of saying that she worked to “defeat” it.
- I cut out all the dialog after Padme says “Anakin, you’ve grown up” because I don’t like Anakin complaining about Obi-Wan and being creepy towards Padme. I used a couple of VFX shots from Caleb Gamman to accomplish this.
Traveling Incognito
- No Changes
Dex’s Diner
- No Changes
Jedi Archives
- I added The Lost 20 deleted scene with some VFX work to try and clean it up a bit. I also added a brief flashback to Qui-Gon telling Obi-Wan that he was a good apprentice. This resolves their disagreement about Anakin that was left unresolved in The Phantom Menace - Revised.
“Encouraged to Love”
- I cut out Anakin telling Padme that she’s just the way he remembers her in his dreams. The scene ends when Anakin says “you haven’t changed a bit.” I reversed and retimed a shot of Padme to smooth the transition into the next scene.
“Jedi Landing Platform”
- I cut this scene almost exactly the same way that The Phantom Editor cut it.
- I removed Obi-Wan’s dialog about how he’s only just now realizing that Anakin was too old to train because he already felt that way in The Phantom Menace.
- I reframed the shot of Obi-Wan bowing to Mace in order to hide the fact that the ship was not tracked into the shot properly.
Return to Naboo
- I cut this scene exactly the same way that The Phantom Editor cut it.
Arrival on Kamino
- No Changes
Meeting Lama Su
- I removed Lama Su’s line about how many clones have been produced. This line ruins the reveal when Obi-Wan sees all the clones for the firs time. It’s also not a realistic number of soldiers to fight in a galaxy wide conflict. (Based on what The Phantom Editor did)
Padme’s Room
- I did a face replacement to cover up Padme’s line about the children she helped dying to keep the mood of the scene light.
Inspection the Clones
- I removed the tangent that Lama Su goes on about Boba Fett. (Based on what Hal9000 did)
Teasing a Senator
- I cut out Anakin riding on the giant tick things. The scene ends when Anakin says “I’d be much to frightened to tease a Senator.”
Jango’s Apartment
- This scene is based almost entirely on what Something Star Wars Related did in a now deleted YouTube video.
- Boba does not say anything. Tuan We says “May we see him” and there is a slight pause before they enter the room.
- I added some extra rain noises with some EQ work to give it a “rain on car windshield” kind of sound. This had to be done because of the amount of dialog that I reordered, but I also just like the sound it adds to the scene.
- I tried to remove the digital zooms.
- I cut out Jango speaking in another language and moved his “possibly” line to when he is walking past Boba. This way, he non-verbally communicates to Boba that he should go shut the closet door.
- The lines “do you like your army” and “I look forward to seeing them in action” are played while Boba shuts the door.
- Jango then walks up really close to Obi-Wan’s face and says “always a pleasure to meet a Jedi” as if he is telling Obi-Wan to leave.
Sunset at Padme’s
- I reordered some reaction shots of Padme so that the shot of her smiling comes after Anakin makes a joke about Obi-Wan being grumpy instead of before.
- I copied The Phantom Editor’s work during the kiss scene. I recolored it so that it appears to be happening in the evening. There is no discussion about sand, Padme does not pull away, etc.
Obi Wan’s Report
- I replaced the dialog at the end of the scene where they discuss telling the Senate about how their ability to use the force has diminished. I instead replaced it with some AI generated dialog about how they should have trusted Sifo Dyas’ judgement.
Anakin’s Nightmare
- I removed Anakin’s line about how Jedi don’t have nightmares. I used a VFX shot from Caleb Gamman to accomplish this.
Obi Wan Vs. Jango
- I replaced all of Jango Fett’s blaster sound effects with the ones from the Geonosis scene for continuity.
- I added steam VFX and sound effects to Obi-Wan’s lightsaber.
- I added Obi-Wan’s Lightsaber Ignition Sound After he Rolls
- I cut Boba firing the ship guns at Obi-Wan.
- I cut Obi-Wan Swinging on the Wire so it’s a Single Smooth Motion
Back to Tatooine
- No changes
Arrival on Geonosis
- I cut Boba calling Jango dad. He just says “I think we’ve been tracked.” I cut Jango calling Boba his son. He just says “hang on. We’ll move into the asteroid field.” This because they called each other “son” and “dad” an excessive amount in my opinion.
- I cut Boba’s lines “get him dad” and “fire!” because it was excessive. (Based on what Hal9000 did)
- I cut Jango’s line about finishing him to quicken the pace. (Based on what Hal9000 did)
- I cut Obi-Wan saying “fire them now” because he already said prepare to jettison them earlier. (Based on what Hal9000 did)
- I removed Gunray telling Dooku that he wants Padme’s head because in this edit, Dooku is the one behind the assassination attempts. (Based on what Hal9000 did)
Lars’ Homestead
- I removed C3P0 referring to Anakin as “the maker” because I don’t like Anakin being the creator of C3P0. (Based on what Hal9000 did)
- I removed Padme’s line “oh Anakin” because it was ADR and not delivered very well. (Based on what Hal9000 did)
Out of Range
- I added a rack focus to the shot of the Geonsian watching Obi-Wan. This is based on a now deleted video from Something Star Wars Related.
- I used the day for sunset replacement VFX shots from Caleb Gamman’s edit during the scene where R2 receives the message from Obi-Wan to help keep continuity.
- I added a blur to the backgrounds of a couple of the wide shots at the beginning of the Tusken slaughter scene because the background was just as sharp, if not sharper than the foreground.
- I cut out the scene where Anakin confides in Padme about killing the Tuskens.
Enemies Revealed
- I reordered Obi-Wan’s dialog so that he says the assignation attempts were ordered by Dooku instead of Gurnay. This is more straightforward. (Based on what Hal9000 did)
- I moved the scene where Mace Windu tells Anakin to stay on Tatooine to the end of the scene discussing emergency powers. This is because it is relevant to Padme since she is still serving in the senate.
- I added a line of dialog where Mace tells Anakin to patch Padme through to the Senate using AI.
- I cut Anakin’s line “if he’s still alive” because it makes it sound like he doesn’t care about Obi-Wan.
Obi Wan Captive
- I cut the line where Dooku asks Obi-Wan why he’s on Geonosis because Dooku, Obi Wan, and the audience all know this already. So why should we discuss it. Obi Wan also gives him an honest answer for why he’s on Geonosis which is strange because he obviously doesn’t trust Dooku.
- I cut the line where Dooku “reminds” Obi-Wan that Qui-Gon was his padawan because it’s just a poorly written line.
- I cut Dooku’s long tangent about how the Viceroy of the Trade Federation was in league with Darth Sidious. He claims that Gunray came to him after Sidious betrayed him 10 years prior, but then we see Gunray answering to Sidious yet again in Revenge of the Sith. It doesn’t really make any sense.
- I added a partially AI line where Dooku says “what if I told you that the Republic will destroy the Jedi?”
- I added an AI generated line where Dooku says “Sifo-Dyas foresaw the inevitable.”
Emergency Powers
- Please note that the YouTube version of this scene is using a Catherine Taber sample. The actual edit uses a Natalie Portman sample.
- I did several VFX shots to make Padme into a hologram. I am using shots from the Padme Addresses the Senate deleted scene.
- I added some AI lines where she advocates for giving Palpatine emergency powers.
Droid Factory
- I removed Padme’s line where she tells Anakin that the steam is coming from exhaust vents because she sounds very condescending. (Based on what Hal9000 did)
- I removed all C3P0 and R2 footage. They stay on the ship after this point. They don’t reappear until the wedding in the final scene. (Based on what Hal9000 did)
- I removed the surround sound of the Geonosians crawling around because Anakin should’ve been able to hear them. (Based on what The Phantom Editor did)
- I took the entire droid factory action sequence from Hal9000’s edit.
- Anakin does not break his lightsaber. (Based on what Hal9000 did)
Dooku Interogates Padme
- No changes
Love Pledge
- I based this scene almost exactly on what The Phantom Editor did.
- I removed all of Anakin’s dialog (Based on what The Phantom Editor did)
The Arena
- I moved Anakin’s “I’ve got a bad feeling about this” to before the animals are revealed. It makes more sense to say you have a bad feeling about something before you’ve seen it. After seeing the monsters, obviously he would have a bad feeling. (Based on what The Phantom Editor did.
“This Party’s Over”
- I reordered the scene so that the Jedi don’t reveal themselves until after Mace Windu says “I don’t think so.” Dooku’s “impossibly outnumbered” line makes more sense here. He thinks Windu means to take on everybody by himself. Then, after the Jedi reveal themselves, Dooku doubles down on his claim that he’s impossibly outnumbered. This required a background replacement because there were a bunch of Jedi swinging their lightsabers around. (Based on what The Phantom Editor did)
- I added the extended Jango Fett death scene. I used a variation of this scene where his arm was not cut off, but unfortunately the original video seems to be deleted.
Yoda’s Cavalry
- I removed Yoda telling the clones to make a perimeter because I don’t like Yoda giving orders.
- I used a VFX shot from Hal900 that fixes Mundi having a green lightsaber.
- I replaced the footage of Boba mourning Jango with the footage from the Book of Boba Fett because it’s longer and helps the transition since the R2 and C3P0 scene was removed. (Based on a concept from Snooker)
Clone War
- This entire sequence is based almost exactly on what The Phantom Editor did.
- Dooku stays at the arena, and the Jedi decide to go back and get him (Based on what The Phantom Editor did)
- I removed Obi-Wan referring to Anakin as young. He just says “good call.”
- I removed Yoda telling the clones to take him to the command center because I don’t like Yoda giving orders.
- I replaced the Death Star plans with the animation from A New Hope. The animation was sourced from JPH Edits. (Based on a concept from Snooker)
Duel with Doooku
- Pleas note that the YouTube version has Anakin with a green lightsaber, but in the edit Anakin uses the original Blue lightsaber. The VFX in the edit are also improved from the YouTube version.
- I removed Obi-Wan telling Anakin how they are going to attack Dooku because it doesn’t make any sense to say it out loud. (Based on what The Phantom Editor did)
- I removed the cutaway to Obi-Wan so that the shot of Anakin with two lightsabers can play as 1 long shot. (Based on what Wookies Rebels and More did)
- I removed Dooku preparing to kill Obi-Wan. He just turns off his lightsaber and walks away. This does two things. It shows that Dooku is somewhat merciful (he shouldn’t want to kill Qui Gon’s padawan). It also shows how aggressive Anakin is because he attacks Dooku again when he tries to leave.
- I added Anakin turning his lightsaber off after he cuts the lights. This works as a callback (or call foreward?) to Empire Strikes Back when Vader is hiding in the dark hallway to surprise Luke on Bespin. I retimed and did some VFX on a couple shots of Dooku walking around in the dark before Anakin turns his lightsaber back on and the fight continues.
- I cut the shot of Anakin pausing and letting Dooku cut off his arm. It happens much more suddenly. (Based on what Wookies Rebels and More did)
Master Yoda
- The way I cut this scene was inspired by the duel between Voldemort and Dumbledore in The Order of the Phoenix (and I even pulled some sound effects from that scene).
- I used a few VFX shots from Wookies Rebels and more to show Dooku trowing everything at Yoda all at once.
- I removed the lightsaber duel, and replaced it with an extended force battle. I added some sound effects pulled from Order of the Phoenix to make the lightning sound more dangerous. Dooku makes the beam fall on Anakin and Obi-Wan while he’s shooting lightning at Yoda. Yoda has to catch the beam while he is blocking Dooku’s lightning. This highlights Yoda’s power with the force, and it justifies why the encounter is so short. I’m not against Yoda having a lightsaber, but I think the duel is a bit goofy and I think it plays much better this way.
- I used a VFX shot from Hal9000’s edit which shows Dooku boarding his ship without his lightsaber ignited.
- I reordered the scene where Dooku leaves according to how it was originally on the DVD. The Blu-Ray order makes it look like Dooku takes much longer to leave.
Darth Sidious
- I removed Palpatine referring to Dooku as Tyrannus because it’s simpler to just have him referred to as Dooku. (Based on what Hal9000 did)
“Begun the Clone War has”
- I removed part of Obi-Wan’s line so he just says “Do you believe what Dooku said” instead of “Do you believe what Dooku said about the Senate?” This is because Dooku didn’t tell Obi-Wan anything about the Senate.
Secret Union
- No Changes
End Credits
- I added everybody who was credited on IFDB for this film. I also added Snooker, Wookies Rebels and More, Caleb Gamman, Something Star Wars Related, Mecha Salesman, The Last Jedi, The Phantom Menace,The Clone Wars, The Obi-Wan Kenobi Limited Series, Shogun, JPH Edits, Bombastic, and Tales of the Jedi because I used VFX/SFX assets from them.
- I added Darth Vader’s breathing from The Phantom Menace at the end of the credits. I added a glowing Attack of the Clones - Revised Logo as the last shot. (Based on what The Phantom Edit did)
Bonus Features
Trailers
Final Trailer
- This is the final trailer for Attack of the Clones - Revised.
Final Trailer (Alternate Version With Deleted Footage)
- This is an alternate version of the final trailer. I made this before I cut the Sifo Dyas scene from the film. It contains some lines from Sifo Dyas and Qui-Gon that were specifically made for this trailer.
Deleted Scenes
Sifo Dyas Speaks With Dooku, Qui Gon, and Hego Damask
- This was a difficult scene to make and an even more difficult one to cut. This is loosely based on the Darth Plagueis novel, and it was originally going to be the opening scene of the film. I used footage from The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith, The Last Jedi, and Shogun. I sunk quite a lot of time into this scene, but ultimately it became clear that I was not going to be able to get the VFX looking good enough. Furthermore, this reveals far too much information to serve as the opening of the film, and it can’t be placed anywhere else. I still like the scene in a vacuum, and I consider it a canon part of the story, but it’s just one of those things that you end up having to cut. Listen to the commentary tracks for more information.
Jango Fett - The Clone Defector
- Originally, I planned to have Jango Fett actually be a clone defector instead of the genetic template of the clone army. This was meant to patch the plot hole of the Jedi knowing that the template for the clone army was working for Dooku. It would also serve as a reference to Boba Fett’s original backstory as a defector storm trooper. Jango Fett was going to be a failed special forces project who was given too much freedom and started working for Dooku. This required a lot of AI dubs, and I came to the conclusion that I couldn’t really sell it. So, I cut it from the film. Obi-Wan also asks about who made the downpayment on the army, and Lama Su says that it came from Damask. This would serve as a reference to the Darth Plaguies novel. However, it would create another situation similar to Sifo Dyas in the theatrical cut of the film where we are given a name, and it’s never followed up on. Listen to the commentary for more information.
