Among the most difficult and sensitive topics, I'm glad to see this come out.  I suspect the reason for not addressing it so directly sooner is largely due to the difficult position of acknowledging that our leaders can be wrong; simply put, many members feel our leaders are infallible, in spite of frequent reminders that they are not.  We teach they are inspired, but can be wrong on many occasions.  In any case, I know this might stir up controversy, but I'm willing to address any questions on this anyone is dying to ask.

What does you believe regarding homosexuality (besides whether or not you think it is wrong)?

When I have time I'll try to find where it is in this thread.  It has been addressed before.  It's a difficult topic for me, personally.

How would you feel about a man staying in a committed relationship with–, and possibly marrying, a Furby?

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

As sentient as a 6502 CPU can be.

The previous page in response to Orson Scott Card's bonkers views.

It was, as Bingowings mentioned, brought up on the last page, but it wasn't clear to me from that if you were saying that it was not an LDS believe that most homosexuals become that way through rape, etc. or if you were saying that most LDS don't believe homosexuality is wrong.

As it is not my intent to trash your thread, begin an argument, make people hate you, etc., feel free to PM me if you don't wish to touch on this in this thread.

I have no problem discussing it in my thread.  I'm just very busy.  It's been a hectic week.  No, there is no such LDS view.  Those views were held by the very mortal Orson Scott Card, who is entitled to have opinions as stupid as everyone else's.  This is my church's official POV:

http://www.lds.org/topics/same-gender-attraction

http://mormonsandgays.org/

Short story: sexual immorality is wrong.  We believe sex out of marriage is wrong.  We believe sexual activity should be between a man and a woman.  While this isn't an issue for me, it's the legislative action against gay marriage that is difficult.  While I may personally find it wrong, it's hard for me to believe I can impose that on others.  But my church has gone to great lengths to prevent the legalization of gay marriage, a fight I'm sure we will lose.  I gave an explanation of why I accept that it is wrong a few pages back.  I'll try to find it.  Give me a bit.

Alright, thanks. Sounds like you have pretty similar views to me on the subject.

Has anyone mentioned the Dr Richard Dawkins & Brandon Flowers interview?

Kinda feel sorry for Brandon (for 2 reasons)

Don't get me started on Brandon Flowers but damn that was almost painful to watch. Watching a man's entire world crumble caught in a facial expression.

I thought he was just caught off the cuff by the miracle of Hawking's ability to speak and walk unaided.

Yeah, Dawkins tore everything down by asserting something without any evidence and attacking a singer who is no scholar on the topic.

I'm curious why Jaitea is sorry for Brandon for two reasons.  What are those reasons?

Dawkins has written countless tee-shirts and a couple of books on the subject, in fact he barely shuts up about how God definitely doesn't exist and how anyone who disagrees with him is a jerk.

He has prior form.

I guess Brandon thought he was going to talk about Dawkins' wife and her wonderful knitting patterns??

Darth Ender deserves to know.

I am a lapsed Mormon.

In 2004, I ran across a "Free Book of Mormon" ad somewhere. It was free. And it was the infamous 'Book of Mormon' which I'd heard about but never read. I gave my address, phone number, name.

Next thing I knew, these two beautiful missionary women knocked on my door. My parents invited them in. I was a smitten teenager that also happened to have a passing interest in religion and spirituality.

I was baptized in Kansas City, Missouri later that year. My teenage years were traumatic. The church helped remind me to be generous and compassionate toward others. Without them, I would have turned out far, far worse of a person.

There were dances and gatherings that diverted me away from the less wholesome parties of my school peers. I met a girl and briefly dated her before my family and I moved away.

One lesson in particular I remember is that gratitude cancels out anger. It's an exercise I use to this very day, almost every day.

If there's one church I want to see survive the secular wave in the western world, it is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

I really am appreciative of your comment, and perhaps you are saying I should be more grateful.  In any case, your words are kind, and I hope you have remaining interest in church activity.  If any of my actions have steered you away, I genuinely apologize for my mortal weaknesses. :)

I felt bad for Brandon because he was on the show to promote his new album, I'm sure he probably new that Dawkins was going to be a guest also.... but...they were in Europe so I suppose due to timings, etc, etc, might not have been able to be avoided,......but anyway I feel that he was set up, I'm atheist myself, but I didn't like the ferocity of Dawkins attack....that was the first thing

Second as Ryan said, you could see he was no match for Dawkins who specialises in debates like this and you could see weakness in Brandon's defence.

The realisation dawned on his face

You are very self-critical. But you've set the best example anyone could expect from a mortal. :) If not me, then I'm sure someone's interests in the church will be ignited.
