Adding subtitles on DVDs

I've been thinking about adding my own subtitles - in this case in Danish - to Moth3r's DVD releases. Of course, I would do my own subtitles rather than just ripping and modifying the ones from the DVD and I'd use the subtitled version for personal use only. However, I'm quite inexperienced in the field of DVD authoring and even moreso when it comes to subtitles. So can anyone with more knowledge than me get me started on this? Thanks in advance.
"The things that stick in my mind and make me laugh were, like, memos worried about whether or not the Wookie should have pants. They're looking at this thing and saying, "Couldn't he have some lederhosen?" This is great. Of all the things to worry about, the Wookie has no pants." -Mark Hamill

I'd say, rip the subs from the official DVD, and modify them. That way the timecodes are almost right, synching them up at about 10 spots will do the trick. On doom9.net there's a guide for SubRip, in URUSoft Subtitle Workshop you can edit them and synch them up to the movie, which you can rip with this program. And finally I'd use Adobe Encore for the mastering.

That's no moon. It's a LaserDisc.

Thankyou very much! This should be enough to get me started!
