Are you gonna buy 'em? — Page 2

As much as I hate to say it, yes, I will buy them. For the same reasons most wil do it for. To show Lucas there is a demand for this movies on dvd!

Nope. I still want my money back from the prequels.

Buying a low quality product to show the demand for a better edition or taking the risk to boycott it and don't get anything better?
It seems that we are losing on both options...
I'll wait to see the reviews of the dvds, there is a few "not so bad" 4/3 dvds out there; i remember the 4/3 transfer of Silent Running being quite good, on the other hand i find the transfer of The Abyss too "blurry".
I was really pissed when i've heard we won't get 16/9 anamorphic, i think i will probably buy those dvds (depends on the reviews of the dvds) even if it is in low quality compared to today standards but it is still better than nothing...

Lucas has almost killed my love of the Star Wars franchise.

I won't be buying these discs unless they're anamorphic, maybe not even then since they're being treated as only bonus material.

Anyone else feel the same?

I'm only getting RotJ as the 2004 edition of that one is the only one I really HATE, and possibly star wars, since the 2004 SE has botched audio.

nop i'm not going to buy them, well simply cause i dont care THAT much to own the OOT, and dont want to buy the same movie twice. ill jsut buy the 30th anniversary ones when they come out next year. you know its funny i dont own any copy of the films.

No.

I was going to buy them originally, but not now that I've heard they'll be letterbox. Ironically, I would have bought this set 4 years ago in a heartbeat.

I suspect the OOT will be released in higher quality at some point in the future. I think the demand is just too great, and it would be foolish to not release it later.

I know Lucas can say that, if these sell poorly, there's no demand for the OOT. But I'd like to think there are others at LucasFilm who know better.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

After I buy Star Wars, put it in it's own DVD case from the store, and make my own cover insert for it - it will no longer be only bonus material.

It will be Star Wars on DVD.

If the DVD itself has stupid artwork, it gets duplicated and the generic-looking disc goes in it's place.

Undecided. There are too many question marks about the quality of the disks for me for a solid yes and I've waited too long for these to give a solid no.

I would be interested in seeing screencaps of the 2004 disk, the OOT disk and one of the Laserdisk transfers on September 13.

I put in my pre-order, but I can still opt out if need be in the coming summer months. So far, I know what I'm getting into. Unless there is word that they will be released again, in better condition, I'll be getting mine in september.

I'm going to wait for the reviews.

Unless they suck THAT bad, I'll buy them. And enjoy them tremendously.

PM me for links to my edits; apparently, some feel shy about this.

At fye.com where I pre-ordered mine, it says that it is Dolby/sensormatic/widescreen.

What the hell does "sensormatic" mean?

It means the alarm goes off if you try to walk out of the store with them. ^_~

But the reply from Lucasfilm that Neil just posted here has gotten me so pissed off that I really don't know if I want these at all anymore. I'm about to be pushed off my fencepost.

Unfortunately I have to. My LD player died a couple of years ago and even though I have the LDs (both Japanese and Fox), I can't watch them. Trying to find .avi copies of the LDs on the net has been less than successful for me. Lucas has me by the balls :-(

No one in the preservation forum is willing to hook you up? Have you tried myslpeen.net?

Your tapes are still working? Damn. Are they in widescreen? Me and my best friend have two copies of the box sets because they keep crapping out on us. This DVD is my upgrade.

My LD rips are currently in a box in England waiting to be shipped to California, but if I had them with me I would burn a set for you and post them out in a heartbeat. Head over to the preservation thread - you will find the discs you are looking for. Just ask.

To anyone at Lucasfilm reading this, yes I am condoning and advertising Laserdisc rips. Bite me.

Leia: He certainly has courage.

Luke: What good is it going to do us if he gets himself killed?
For as much as some people claim to hate what Star Wars has become, they sure seem incapable of shutting up about it.

After a bit of thinking and a disscussion with the Mrs(who also is a fan) we decided arent buying them the current full price as they are laser rips, I have about four or five different fan preserved OOT sets from the people here (backed onto back up DVDs) plus OT edits as well and we are thinking of using them until the X0 project emerges as our diffinitive OOT, and the only way we will get the OUT is if the picture is half decent and at a reasonable knock down price.
