Are the Prequels Even Worth Watching Once? — Page 2

I’ve only seen the prequels once each, and I wish I hadn’t. I wish I could erase my memory of those films because they ruin certain parts of Star Wars for me.

Why? The OT existed for a long time before the prequels ever came out. The films resonated with people and they filled in the blanks with their own ideas, whatever impression was left upon them.

Obi-Wan told us that Anakin was the best pilot in the galaxy, a cunning warrior, and a good friend. Especially considering the way the OT was told through Luke’s perspective and his relationship with his dad, I always envisioned Anakin as being a mature, father-like figure, and a powerful and trusted Jedi, just like Obi-Wan and Yoda had described. Do the prequels prevent anyone from continuing to view Anakin in that light? Not for me. I could care less. Anakin will always be exactly as he was implied in the OT, not more, and not less.

I just wish that those blanks were left as blanks. I envisioned Anakin like you described, and in my opinion, that description does not fit the prequel Anakin the slightest bit. The prequels didn’t match up with the ideas and interpretations I had in my head, and that was just disappointing. I guess I just need to replace the prequels with the ideas I had in my head beforehand.

Watch the 2 hours “Clone Wars” cartoon, it depicts Anakin exactly the way Ben does in ANH.

A better film ? Yeah you may think that if you want.

You can’t see why he would think that way? As a TFA “fanboy” I can see why he would prefer R1. That says a lot.

I don’t really get what you’re trying to say and the relevance to what I’ve said to the guy. Is there something ambiguous in my sentence “you may think that if you want” ? (is “may” the issue ?).

Well the “may” seems kind of condescending. The wording would be a non issue if you weren’t so quick to dismiss every positive thing about Rogue One.

I can’t tell if this is hyperbole, racist, both, or neither.

Do it. I did, and it’s allowed me to remain a SW fan.

The Clone Wars cartoon Anakin is so divorced from the PT Anakin- I’m shocked Lucas never noticed.

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

Lucas fails to notice a lot of things. Case in point: “thousand years” for “thousand generations”.

There are things which spoil people who see it for the first time, which is very bad (e.g. showing Jabba before EP V), but the special editions also do that. Shortening EP II’s long dialogues would also be necessary. They cannot be completely taken out, as they support the development of relationships between characters.
So just make sure that you get a good fan edit which corrects that, then the movies can be enjoyed even more. I don’t think they are throughout bad.

Darth Id on ‘Why “Ben”?’:

And while we’re at it, we need to figure out why they kept calling Mark Hamill’s character “Luke Skywalker,” since it’s my subjective opinion that his name is actually Schnarzle Shnuzzle.  It just doesn’t make sense!

Damn you George Lucas for never explaining why they all keep calling Schnarzle “Luke”!

Damn You!!!

I think Clone Wars Anakin is what Lucas envisioned, it’s just that he couldn’t write or direct so we ended up with PT Anakin.

He is and isn’t at the same time. Lucas was one movie short to show him in a different light. There are actually many scenes in AOTC/ROTS when you get to see the TCW/CW Anakin, but it’s not the majority. At least we’ve got quite good cartoons to complete the “PT puzzle”, with fanedited versions of the movies it even works quite well in spite of flaws that cannot be solved.

Yet even so, it has the right to exist. The PT may be awful, but I certainly don’t propose we adopt Lucas’ methods of destroying films we don’t like.

I do not think anyone is suggesting that. Nevertheless, one has to be careful when it come to memories. When you see something awful you cannot remove it from your memories. It will forever pollute your memories and likely ruin experience of OT.

Considering everything but the first sentence was the truth, are you suggesting that you support Lucas’ method of destroying films?

No, I was referring to this:

Nothing and I mean nothing other than the films themselves will ruin my memories or enjoyment of the Original Trilogy. I just like the films too much to be swayed by outside sources.
