With the new iPhone coming out at $199 each are you going to get one? I know I am.

I don't use my cell phone often enough to justify anything more than my $50 pay-as-you-go phone from 2005.

I don't get all the iPhone love.

Don't get me wrong, I'm typing this on my MacBook Pro with OS X Leopard I purchased while listening to music in my 80 GB iPod. But I think the iPhone and MacBook Air are both ridiculous pieces of useless technology.

Now if they could have iPhone-like touch technology with an actual computer and make it work, we'd be on our way to incredibly cool, intuitive "Minority Report"-esque computers down the road, which I'd love to no end.

Sorry for my little rant - to answer your question, no, I won't now, nor will I ever buy an iPhone.

I am relishing the day in the future when I'll be able to afford an 8-core Mac Pro with a 30" HD display, 32 GB RAM, a 1.5 GB graphics card, and 4 terabytes of hard drive space ... a man can dream ...

Unless you're working for George Lucas in your basement, I'd say that's a ridiculous piece of useless technology. I do a fair amount of design and development work, and besides a desire for some extra RAM (currently 3GB, but I'd like 8GB to make my various VMs run a bit faster), my quad core Mac Pro is more than enough to get the job done.

I don't get all the iPhone hate. It is, without a doubt, the best consumer electronics device I've ever purchased. To have the entire web--the real web, not some hacked up mobile version of it--available to me at any time or place is amazing. Nevermind that it's a pure joy to use. It's great to be out and about, decide you want eat, search for a restaurant, touch the phone number to call, and make a reservation. And now that the iPhone has real GPS, Google Maps will be even more useful. It's also the best iPod ever made. If you're going to get an iPod and separate cell phone anyway, why not get an iPhone?

And while I think multitouch is the best UI interaction improvement ever, I don't see it working on the desktop, at least not for 8 hours out of each day (plus whatever time you put in at home doing your own nerdings). People are getting RSIs just moving a little mouse back and forth; get the whole upper body involved and you're asking for problems. Multitouch will remain most effective on portable devices with small screens like phones and touchpads.

At $199, the upgrade is a no-brainer. I wish they offered some kind of trade-in program.

I'm not actually getting *all* that, I know perfectly well that's all basically pointless excess. I said able to *afford* - I'd just like to have the option to afford what I want without having to compromise, and I *will* eventually need a more powerful computer in the future.

Maybe if Apple allowed demo periods or something of that nature, I'd give it a shot, but I've used a friend's iPhone a couple of times and it did not impress me in the slightest. I can do everything I need in a phone with my Samsung perfectly fine.

You know you can do that with 800-Goog411 as well, right? Just call that number, give it your zip code, and tell it what you're looking for. Not to mention that if you're "out and about", a restaurant is probably very close by.

The iPhone is a nice phone, I'll give you that. And now it's reasonably priced.

Although, the monthly data rates have been jacked up. In the long run it isn't cheaper at all.
I'd love an iPhone, but don't have that kind of money.

I never had the nerve to make the final cut.

I might just get an iPod Touch because the plan on the iPhone is just do expensive. I barely ever use my cell to begin with so $70 a month is just ridiculous.
