Anyone use Adobe Premiere Pro?

I've just upgraded from Premiere, which I'm pretty good with and I'm having a terrible time watching the video while trying to edit it. I have a Vaio with a 2.80 Ghz Pentium 4 with a NVidia GeForce FX5200 graphics card, so it should be this bad...should it?

Anyone interested, I'm doing a Phantom Menace edit. I was watching it on local tv the other night and I thought to myself, there is a REALLY good film in here, if it was just edited right. So last night, I sat down and watched the first 37 minutes of it and came up with edits that didn't use new dialogue or changed dialogue, just editing. Cutting off scenes quicker to avoid awkward gazes, removing needless dialogue. Also, I found that you can cut alot of silly Jar Jar stuff REAL easy and have him be tolerable. I came up with about 55 edits in the first 37 minutes that I think would make it flow better and give it more of a Star Wars feel. However, Premiere won't co-operate. Any suggestions?

I believe zion uses it. I've tried Premiere, but I like Vegas better (and I believe Pro requires XP, and I use 2000).

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.

Hi,

I use Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 on a Petium-4 2.0 ghz with an old Geforce Ti4200. I have been doing edits of DUNE and Star Wars Making Magic with no problems. What type of problems are you having? Are you giving your source videos the time they need to conform before trying to view and edit them? Big AVI files can take quite a long time to conform.

Sorry about not seeing your reply. Basically, I'm trying to take The Phantom Menace and edit it in Adobe Premiere with minimal conversions. Unfortunately, now I am seeing that Adobe Premiere Pro will not allow me to export and MPG with 5.1 Audio. Grrr....

I'm very good with Premiere Pro, spent 4 years in school working with digital video and the such. However, that's been a few years and the DVD editing is newer to me. I'd like to be able to do edits such as extended versions of Attack of the Clones and such, but really can't get moving.

I did find the problem, it's my PC, it's just too slow. I don't know why, but it is. I moved to a different computer that is faster and had no problems on that end.

I'm not using AVIs, I'm using MPGs from the vob files. In retrospect, I probably should just use AVIs but I don't want to lose any quality and don't want to spend all that time converting.

Yeah, I think that is what it is. I have 512 as well, probably will upgrade soon.

So does everyone think I should just convert to AVI and save myself alot of the trouble?

I'm bumping my main computer from 512 to 1Gb soon (and my second computer from 256 to 768)

If you are just cutting footage, it's not a problem. If you are trying to combine scenes of different sources (DVD and LD footage) or digitally add/remove stuff, then you really should go to AVI. At that point, hard drive space will become a major concern as well.

THX, I to am using Premier Pro 1.5 to do some re-edits but im stuck right at the beginning. I have created an .avi from a 2:35:1 dvd. But then when I create a new 16:9 project in Premier it comes up with this:

However when i use 4:3 it eliminates this, but i get a thick black bars. Obviously i want my project to be seen ideally on 16:9 tv's but is there a way to stop the above from happening?

ahh, it appears I have got somewhere. In the event that anyone has a problem.

Basically, when i had my mpeg I needed to convert it to an AVI in order for me to edit using Adobe Premier.

The thing is, when I exported using tmpgenc it put quite large black borders. Less than the 2:35:1 but more than 16:9.

So what I did was exported it using SQUARE PIXELS and then when i was in Adobe Premier. I right clicked on the raw footage and interpreted it...converting it to 16:9.

Now the image, although its 2:35:1. The black borders are the same thickness as they would be if i was watching the anamorphic dvd on a 16:9 set.

Out of all the people editing here I Cant believe no-one else has had this problem!

Does anyone know why this happens? Going to do my trailer during the week now and after that its the biggie...editing a movie! But to do that I need to figure out how to do 5.1 sound hmmm..
