It's everything that's on the DVD and a few other random things here and there. All of the music cues are different, a Foo Fighters song plays over the opening credits. I'd have to watch it again, but I think the most amusing thing in it to me was Jack finding out that they blew up his luggage.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

Btw, if your source is VHS save your money and use a SL DVD. Encode the video at 1/2 D1, you won't gain any quality using higher resolution because of your source, but you can save the bitrate to get the full film on a single layer.

Sorry. No. Send the VHS to me cause I'd rather have a DL version of it, thanks. I'll choose how to "waste" my money.

And I have a VHS of the Blade Runner workprint. It's right from the master and it's actually from the late 90's. One place showed it again apparently.

Um, I always did kinda like A4 (at least better than the theatrical cut of 3), but of course I'm pretty much a sucker for anything Joss Whedon writes.
Go watch it again and imagine some Firefly cast members in it and you'll like it much better.

I love Firefly and I REALLY loved Serenity (seen it twice now at the fan screenings), but AR still makes me very ill. Honestly, I guess it's really just those last fifteen minutes or so that break it for me. And besides... Joss didn't have final cut and there were so many cooks involved in that screenplay, who knows what was Joss' and what wasn't?

You have the Blade Runner workprint? Of the original version? That needs to be preserved on DVD! Have you told the guys over at the blade runner thread about this?

Which thread is that? I don't see anything recent in the forum other than that Bladerunner DVD covers thread.

Anyway, it's a camcorder bootleg of a screening of the Denver/Dallas workprint shown back in 1990 shortly after it was discovered (read all about it in Paul Sammon's "Future Noir" book). Being a camcorder bootleg, its obviously not going to be great quality but its definitely watchable and is reportedly the only known copy of the workprint circulating out there. I got a DVD copy of it over a year ago. It's similar to the 1992 Director's Cut with no narration by Ford and no happy ending, but it's missing the unicorn dream. It has alternate titles at the beginning with the "dictionary definition" of what a replicant is. It also has minor bits of scenes in it that aren't in any other version, such as the topless dancers wearing hockey masks in one of the street scenes in Los Angeles. "Future Noir" really details every little difference in this workprint version compared to the theatrical/international/1992 dir.cut versions if you have that book (which I highly recommend!).

I've seen this sold on Ebay before, so I know other people out there have it. That's why I was waiting to see if someone else torrented it first just to save me the trouble of doing it myself.

Yeah, I was referring to the BR covers thread. I think they would be quite interested in this, fan recording or not.

The extended Jersey Girl is a likely release, but I'd also love to see Dogma with the deleted scenes reinserted.

I kinda did this, too. I titled it "Dogma: The Long-Ass Edition" and just threw all of the crappy-looking deleted scenes that were on the DVD back into the flick. I didn't pay attention to music cues or anything. It looks like crap, because the final 2hr 51min cut was compressed to a single-layer DVD and I also vertically stretched the deleted scenes to make the whole thing anamorphic. So yeah, it looks like crap, but I just did it for myself (hence why I didn't take more care with it, in terms of music cues, etc).

Ah. Well, the way things are going (I think there's a planned Chasing Amy re-release), maybe there'll be a Dogma X DVD...

I've heard rumblings of a new Chasing Amy disc, too. It would be cool if that did come to pass, lord knows there the reasons to buy Kevin Smith's DVDs just never stop. Although, I never did buy the original issue of Clerks because by the time it came down enough in price for me to want it, they had mentioned a 10th anniversary edition a few times (this was around 1999 or so), so I decided to wait. Man, did that pay off.

Personally I'm happy with the Chasing Amy Criterion release. But considering what Kev comes up with, I might pick it up. I passed on the Mallrats disc. Love the flick, but I think the Universal release was good enough. The extended stuff belonged on the cutting room floor on that one. I wish he would get that damn Evening II: Evening Harder disc out. Loved the first set. Laughed my ASS off at that one. Something they haven't released on disc yet (and I have on VHS if anyone is interested in capping it) is the tour that O'Hallaran did of the filming locations. That would be a nice bonus feature.

Yes, I've mentioned having a copy of the workprint several times. I got a copy when I was in college in the late 90's. Apparently there was ANOTHER screening of the workprint and got a copy from the master.

Any plans to release it?

It's not high on the list of things to do. The quality still isn't very good even though it's so close to the master. Lots of flickering because, well, it's a recording of a projection.
Higher on the list is the dual-layer version of the hi-def down-rez of the DC that was broadcast.

DigitalFreak, if you are referring to the Bladerunner workprint, can you post some screencaps of your version so I can compare the quality to mine? Thanks...

I never made any list of my discs. I have a bunch of workprints, all on DVD-R transferred from VHS (not by me). The Fight Club workprint is a very easy one to find - it's not that elusive Boogie Nights or Darkman the Series workprint. I saw it in practically every pirate store that deals in workprints. It can be downloaded from at least two DC hubs, too. I definitely saw it on Batmax on two regular users' lists.

do you know where I can find the Darkman Series Workprint ?

Some news for the people who were on about the Kevin Smith DVD's.

Universal want to release a new 'Dogma' set next year, reinserting a few of the deleted scenes AND they want to give Smith the money to finish a few that require SFX. It's pretty interesting though, 'Mallrats' only came about because the title was withdrawn and when Smith asked why, they told him it was because they were going to re-issue a lot of their best-selling titles, and 'Mallrats' was among them. They also made it clear that they were going to release the set with or without his help. They've also said the same thing about 'Dogma' - It's up to him if he wants to participate, but they're going to release it regardless...

He also said that 'An Evening with Kevin Smith 2' is being held back until next year now because the company making the DVD insist on holding out until 'Clerks 2' is released.

He talks about all of this on his interview over at www.dvdtalk.com

Universal is moronic. They screwed up the lame Dazed & Confused re-release, which was supposed to have commentary and cast reunion footage on it, but forced a release date and Richard Linklater wasn't able to put out the edition he would've liked. So now there's talk of a possible Criterion of Dazed. AMC (which edits the crap out of everything) showed the documentary Making Dazed (which featured reunion footage), so that was as good it gets for now. That would be a nice addition to a Dazed DVD.

There's already a mammoth Dogma set, as well as a single-disc barebones version. The *only* reason to put anything new out is if it included the 3 hour early cut. And *maybe* the documentary In Defense of Dogma, which was released as an extra on the View Askew flick Vulgar. The new Mallrats cut was a cool idea-- I didn't know that Universal would've put something out without Smith's input and since he's so fan-friendly, it would be foolish not to work *with* him. But as a fan, I of course already own the previous loaded edition, and don't wanna shell out 15-20 bucks every time a studio decides that its suits need raises.

Flickering can be almost completely removed with the right math - I wrote a Shake script a coupla years ago for just that purpose, and it works very well - so it can almost definatley be improved.

If only I could get my hands on any "real" workprints of the star wars films. I know the revenge one posted was called a workprint but it was not.

Imagine having the workprints for a new hope, the empire strikes back, return of the jedi and revenge of the sith. the only good star wars movies. Forget clones or p.m.

Technically Lucas' refusal to quit tinkering with his films render them all 'work prints.'

No... imagine getting into the Darth Georgeous's vault and making it out with the Lost Cut and everything else that's stored there. Maybe even more wookiee porn filmed for the never-released expanded, adult-only version of "The Star Wars Holiday Special".

Hi all - Jack if you don't mind me asking what's the quality like of your BS Dracula workprint?

I'd also be very interested in the BS Dracula workprint. How much longer is it compared to the theatrical version, and what notable differences are there?

Who has a copy of an evening with kevin smith on dvd?

P.m. me please.

also anyone have the workprint of jay and silent bob strikes back with the deleted scenes encorporated?

or any other kevin smith rough cuts or work prints.

Anybody have the episode of sci fi channel's exposure which he hosted, which had the world premiere of george lucas student film freiheit? How about the fan film awards? oh and does anybody have all the behind the scenes stuff on return of pink five from g4?, pink five strikes back etc.

I Hope kevin smith can use some of his clout in the film industry and help mark hamill get the black pearl made as a movie. Comic book the movie was not as good or funny as jay and silent bob, but I still love this cheasy little movie. Can You imagine Mark Hamill getting the o.k. from good old george to film episode 7 as director, one can dream.
