I've got the discs and the means to rip them, and plan to do so shortly - assuming my LD player has survived it's years in a garage.
I'll let you know when I get around to it.

Just asking because i don’t have them myself and i do have the laserdiscs, only my player can only output the 2 channel digital audio as i don’t have an rf ac3 out.
I remember they sounded like very good mixes in the theater, though i probably saw them in some other audio format than dolby, but not the rare dts presentation that was on the 70mm prints.
Just wanted to hear them again as an audio engineer Steve Hoffman said they sounded like garbage in comparison to the analog 70mm presentation in 1977, which i cannot fathom being true as they had lots of limiting done on the soundtracks in those days, no digital mixing studios or digital audio, when they set about to do the redo in 96 they found the original track masters that the 70mm was derived from where there was almost no generation loss.

Thank you very kindly Darth Editous.
Wish i had a player with an rf out for ac3 and a demodulator as i have a ton of discs i would like to capture myself. I can only do 2 channel and not lossless either as my soundcard sucks. I have to rip the digital files analog then transfer back to digital not exactly the best method, also i have that hum from 60 cycles and now have to purchase something to fix said issue.
I might eventually be able to buy a player or afford to have my player modified for ac3, but the demodulator thing is hard to find at a reasonable price. Either that or an older receiver unit with it built in, both expensive.
There are 2 dts laserdiscs i would also like to purchase and capture the audio from Goldeneye and tommorrow never dies, have to search those how to do sites again, lol.
Also would like to capture the ac3 off of my star trek first contact laserdisc as it is the theatrical audio and not on any dvd's without being mixed for home theater presentations.
The other laserdiscs i have i want to capture are:
Tenchi muyo in love
tenchi muyo monatsu no eve,or duaghter of darkness
kiki's delivery service
nausicaa of the valley of wind
neon genesis evangelion the movies death and rebirth and end of evangelion laserdisc.
The studio ghibli gai ippi boxset laserdisc set
Princess mononoke laserdisc.
There are complete laserdiscs video and audio i want to capture too but i probably need to buy a new computer with a dual processor and a good capture card that does composite analog video.
Only for stuff that is not on dvd. As the hassle is too much just to copy laserdisc that are same on dvd release.

O_O
You got the laser with the Macek dub of Kiki?!
"Right now the coffees are doing their final work." (Airi, Masked Rider Den-o episode 1)
I think so but it is on one of the audio channels in mono most likely and analog.
Why it was not on the japan dvd i assumed it was.
The dub with Phil Hartman as jiji to me is preferable with kirsten dunst as kiki.
Which i also have the us laserdisc for and it is in ac3. The dvd is at a lower bitrate i believe but i could be wrong.
Ponyo will be the first studio ghibli film released on blu ray but won't be the first HD presentation as i have seen the files online for howls in 1080i.
I have seen some of the footage from the concert blu ray of ghibli music and the footage of the earlier films looks upscaled but noticeably better than the dvd releases.
Well here now i brought the thread completely off topic, lol.
Laputa and Nausicaa look like they definitely need a restoration before blu ray though since even the japan dvd's were less than perfect. They look the worst in those clips, especially nausicaa really shows it's age.
Not even being a studio ghibli film it is topcraft studios just like castle of cagliostro.
There were HD broadcasts of my neighbor totoro and spirited away and princess mononoke i believe but nobody seems to have preserved them with a recording.
The broadcast of howl's moving castle though was simply stunning like watching the actual animation cels and HD cgi files.

I would dearly love to have copies of the 5.1 mixes from 1997. I've been playing around with the idea of synching them to the GOUT to be able to take advantage of the discrete channels and stereo surrounds for the original version of the movie. Obviously they would have to be combined with upmixes of the 1993 tracks for places where the edit of the film has changed (or if there are any particularly egregious changes to the sound). There are a few places where the 93 versions had bass that the SE's seem to lack, so I'd like to get those in there too. I'm not sure if it will be possible to get good results, or even if my editing skill is up to the task, but I'd like to try it at least.
I've never understood why studios feel the need to alter their 5.1 mixes for home use. I heard somewhere that high frequencies are emphasised in theatres to achieve ideal playback in a large space, so I can see why a bit of EQ might be justified for a smaller listening environment, but I have no idea why anything else should ever be changed. Case in point--I was comparing the GoldenEye special edition dvd with the later ultimate edition, and I noticed that in the later version, the LFE track is consistently several decibels lower. This kind of thing annoys me a lot. If they're worried about downmixing to stereo, why don't they just do a 2-channel version and make that the primary audio track? That way folks watching on less-than-ideal setups can have a format optimised for them, and without having dynamic range compression automatically turned on. Compromising 5.1 mixes for the sake of being put through tv speakers makes no sense.
Also you forgot to mention the dts mix for goldeneye on the ue dvd is not the theatrical and is a new mix by dts digital. The true mix is on laserdisc, damn them i say.
Also would not surprise me if the laserdisc with the ac3 5.1 dolby for goldeneye on the laser was better than either dvd version.
We don't know what will be on the blu ray if it ever is released, but since the last dvd release was messed up due to being incorrectly cropped on the source print or telecine whichever it was, they need to do a new scan.
Also the colors were wrong and there was too much grain removal and the picture was overly brightened, the color tones of the theatrical were a lot more muted like the special edition dvd.
I rented and did not buy the ultimate edition goldeneye it was another lowry botch job in the tradition of star wars just not as bad.

Yeah the UE of GoldenEye isn't so great. Most of the others are damn nice but that one isn't. It's cropped far too much and it looks overly contrasty and oversaturated to me, although I'll admit I can more easily spot audio problems than visual ones. Add that to the compomised sound mix (and my disc being very scratched up on arrival) and I'm none too pleased with it. The earlier dvd has the correct framing and colour, and a better bass level, although the definition isn't as good as the UE due to the low video bitrate. They really need to do a new transfer, but they probably won't.
It would be awesome to have the DTS mix from the laserdisc, particularly if it is the theatrical release soundtrack. I've never owned a laserdisc player, or I'd be try to do it myself.
Earlier you mentioned a quote from Steve Hoffman about the Star Wars SE mix being inferior to the 70mm version. I found that here: http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/archive/index.php/t-141011.html Dear lord, I envy the man to be able to have seen it in 70mm just last year! I can well believe that the 6-track is superior to the SE version. If they ever do a proper transfer of Star Wars, they had damn well better put the 70mm mix on there--I could live without any other mix if I just had that! lol

A friend acquired the R2 and sent me a dvdiso - it's definitely the Disney dub. Very strange. I've been looking for the original dub for years.

xD; My bad.
