Any other films...

Hey, ya'll, I was just stepping back this week and watching all the hub-bub over what really boils down to six movies. It got me thinking about this whole phenom that is Star Wars and I was wondering if any other film or TV series is as hotly debated. Now I don't really care much for movies or TV, and I'm not all Hollywood savvy, but do any of you folks know if any other movies are as tinkered around with, re-released as often, or just plain have the ability to totally enrage and be embraced as the Star Wars series?

The only one I can think of that even comes close is Star Trek, despite the fact that so far only one movie - the 1979 Robert Wise directed Motion Picture - has been horrifically tampered with. No wait, I take that back, there's a director's cut of The Wrath of Khan, but that one kicks ass whereas the director cut of Motion Picture is not so kick ass, and I actually enjoyed the Motion Picture, at least, I liked the longer version that I grew up watching on VHS.
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

I don't know about debate and stuff but "Song of the South" is not getting the DVD release it should. In fact, it has never been released. Ever. On any format.

I also hear people bitch about "Blade Runner," but considering I've only seen it once, I can't remember what they were complaining about.

CGI insertion is a relativly new thing and as time progresses and film directors become old and more delusional there is bound to be more tampering. We are just seeing the first signs of this now.

I remember a small fuss being made last year (or the year before that) about the digital additions to THX-1138.

Yeah, and American Graffiti was also slightly digitally altered, so I guess there's not a single Lucas movie he hasn't tampered with.

The original 1943 Batman serial was heavily censored in 1960s with a new narrator and several overdubbed or cut lines to remove any anti-Japanese content (it was very much a war propaganda film, so the slurs were heavy). It also caused a lot of the music to be replaced since they didn't have an isolated score. It was released that way to home video in 1989 or 1990. However, the original version was finally released to DVD last year. Ironically, it was Sony who released it, since they now own Columbia who made the movie. I own both versions.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

What about Howard the Duck and The Radioland Murders?

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.
