Someone needs to wake him I guess.
Someone needs to wake him I guess.
Sky comes out of his meditative state whenever someone has anything positive to say about anything Lucas has ever been involved in. ;-)
I really like the documentaries on the Young Indiana Jones boxsets (will that do?).
All those years of therapy and someone has to mention Howard the Duck.
The scenes from ESB where Boba Fett is talking to Vader and saying "what if he doesnt survive, he's worth a lot to me ". I have a signed photo of both actors from this scene proudly displayed at home.
My favorite scene is when The Imperial March is first played in Empire. I get goosebumps every time.
Since they're like poetry, what with the rhyming and all, I find that I only need to watch three out of the six films.
One of my favourite scenes and also one of my favourite musical moments by Williams.
"I want to come with you to Alderaan, there's nothing for me here now. I want to learn the ways of the Force and become a Jedi like my father."
whilst i have to say that binary sunset is my all time favourite scene from any film i've seen, what about the first 2 minutes?
to set the scene (scuse the pun!) a little, i saw star wars in 77 aged 11, it was only the second time i'd been to a cinema in my life and i watched this-
the blockade runner blasts past, engines screaming, obviously at full power. wow thats a big spaceship thinks i.
enter the star destroyer.
ten times the size of the blockade runner, easily catching up, but only seeming to glide, engines on low power.
i'm getting goosebumps now!
Agreed, almonkey. That is one of the best movie openings of all time.
I was watching the scene in Ben's house where they were watching Princess Leis's holographic message. There was a small moment after where Ben stops staring into space and looks over at Luke, Luke did the same and looks over at Ben. Then Ben tells Luke he should learn the ways of the Force.
I love the fact that Hirsh, Lucas and Chew cut the scene to seem real, to allow Luke and Ben some thought before moving on with the scene.
I really dig the ambiance of Jabba's palace, and with the exception of the singer chick, the way it's set-up just makes me want to explore every nook and cranny! So many shady characters in there too, makes it seem like a very seedy but a place where you might want to kick it as well.
I love all the Dagobah scenes as well, especially when they're in Yoda's hut, it makes me feel all cozy and warm inside, with the combination of the fireplace and rain outside.
Mos Eisely is great as well, from Obi-wan's "Hive of scum and villainy line" to when they escape, it just feels so awesome and is indeed my favorite sequence out of both trilogies! The universe feels so big and teeming with life, even though they're only at a dusty spaceport, so much character is imbued in that setting, made all the more fantastic with Han Solo's presence and Luke's close call at the bar.
I really wish there were more moments in all of the films where we got to explore the Star Wars universe at the ground level as it were, because after that sequence in ANH it's all monochromatic corridors and dog fights, which are great, but the beginning is just so enchanting.
That ground level of Star Wars society is perhaps why I greatly enjoy many of the Tatooine bits in TPM, unfortunately those moments of immersion are marred by Anakin and Jar Jar, but they never ruin my appreciation for the more enjoyable fare, like Qui-gon's interactions with Watto, which always brings a smile to my face.
I can't decide. It's either:
How can they be jamming us if they don't know we're coming? - from ROTJ
I always loved the scene. It's my favorite piece of score by Williams paired with that look of despair on Lando's face. Got goosebumps the first moment I saw it and still get them today.
or:
The Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It's an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together. - from ANH
I just love to listen to Kenobi telling this. Guinness makes it so easy to forget that he is an actor.

You mean the use of pacing? Sorry, that's not allowed in movies today.

My favorite emotional scene is Vader's funeral pyre.
My favorite eye candy scenes are:
Wedge blasting the TIE fighter head on and saving Luke's bacon
The Rebel fleet going to lightspeed in Jedi
Luke taking out the speeder bike with his light saber
Shortly after the Falcon hits the Death Star's power reactor, you see the reactor explosion off in the distance, and the entrance to the tunnel immediately fills the foreground as the camera keeps moving back. Goosebumps I tell ya.
Visually, I really like that bit when the Falcon's in the DSII with the stripey lights. I think you know what I mean.
I love the scene where Owen, Beru and Luke are eating dinner and Owen tells Luke that he actually knows who Obi-Wan Kenobi was.
It seems to open Luke up to a whole world he never imagined before. All of a sudden old Ben may know someone named Obi-Wan who knew his father.
And the fact that Owen quickly ends the conversation and then shares worried looks with Beru makes it all the more powerful.
That scene has some quality acting in it for just being a SITTING AND TALKING scene.
And as far as the PT is concerned. The only scene's that are redeemable to me are when Liam Neeson is talking to Watto. Watto is the only CG character IMHO that is actually interesting and Liam Neeson talks to him as though he is really on set. I would put those scenes on par with how Mark Hamill acted around the Yoda puppet in TESB and ROTJ.
"The only decision made here today was one of cowardice. They’ve placed the burden of this war on the shoulders of one man and thus appointed a dictator. No honest man pines for supreme authority. All good men know of their own fallibility." -what Mace Windu should have said in Episode II-

I wouldn't. Liam and Watto have nothing important going on between them - Hamill (and the muppet) had to carry much more emotional weight in their scenes.
That’s impossible, even for a computer.

Good job at attempting to start an argument in a feel-good thread.
Unless you're trolling. In which case 1/10 since I responded.

Ease up, cowboy. It was an observation, not an attack.

This could take forever...
Nearly any moment in SW could be considered one, primarily due to the way the film was cut. There's an undeniable energy to even the slightest of gestures that makes the thing feel so incredibly alive. This is what really makes ESB and ROTJ seem different.
The big ones of course: Escape pod, Binary sunset, Mos Eisley escape, Chasm swing, Trench run, Throne room ceremony, X-wing rising from the swamp, Bespin duel, the sail barge, speeder bike chase, throne room duel and many more I'm leaving out.
There are many other smaller moments that just stick with me, but to make things interesting here are a few moments that have become favorites to me due to watching and joking with friends over the years:
The most angsty pre-pubescent line in the history of time: (in a super high pitched fast paced voice) "BUTIWASGOINGINTOTOSCHESTATIONTOPICKUPSOMEPOWERCONVERTERS!"
Ben's "beard stroke" and tug after Leia's hologram.
"Freeze you rebel scum" in ROTJ when an old friend thought the line delivery sounded a bit...well they described it as sounding like an odd dirty remark where the Imperial kinda was more than interested in the Rebel...scum...
Greedo's comebacks.
But nothing compares to Dr. Evzan, Luke, Ben and Wuher's dialog in the cantina. When I first joined the site and found the GOUT I got a bit SW-mad again. So for some odd reason at any given moment where it could or could not be interjected, I would fully recite the entire "He doesn't like you" sequence and over the years this has become more and more developed until I created a new version with such additions as: "I can't have a drink-I got liver problems!" "I just cleaned up the bar!" "Come let's get trashed."
In college my roommates and I once dubbed Star Wars and ESB. Best experience ever. Completely incorrect in spots and absolutely hysterical. Examples: Beru became a heavy chain smoker, the droids became sex robots, Ben became a really crazy old man, Luke was super whiny and inconsiderate with "teen angst!...well technically more like 20-year old angst", dialogue overlapped, references made to the stupidity of the SE, in-jokes, all sound effects done vocally, Leia was puny, Han said "badass" every other line, and things like the ESB probe were dubbed with: "Jor-El placed his infant son in a small rocket ship hurtling in the direction of the Earth just as Krypton exploded."

Does this dubbed version still exist, captainsolo? Sounds interesting...
Where were you in '77?
Ay that's the rub. The first recording was completely spontaneous and perfect. Somehow it got lost and we later decided to try again. That one was a bit more stodgy and we found after finishing that one of the two mikes had been faulty. ESB only has about 40 mins done IIRC. I'll have to try and dig these up, re-synced and get the better bits up somewhere.

Some guys I knew back in high school did something similar. (It partially inspired a complete comedy overdub of a Japanese SW ripoff I did in college.) It dawned on me recently I may have the only existing copy of their proto fanedit 25 years on. I've been thinking about trying to do a restoration, without going all Lucas on it.
Where were you in '77?
oh god, too many to list. but i'll try...
one movie at a time:
SW-
-the entire first 10 minutes on tantive IV. the overture, seeing the 2 ships pass overhead. R2 and 3PO being the only characters that the audience is intorduced to. seeing vader for the first time. the music once the star destroyer leaves tatooine (thank god lucas didn't rescore the imperial march into ANH)
-see r2 and 3p0 arguing on tatooine and 3P0 kicks him (more on this later)
-binary sunset
-obi-wan showing luke the lightsaber and telling him the story of the jedi
-"Listen to them r2, they're dying! curse my metal body I wasnt fast enough, its all my fault...my poor master.."
-"will somebody get this big walking carpet out of my way!?"
-luke and leia having the shootout with the stormtroopers over the chasm (a great theatre moment)
-obi-wans sacrifice
-the "POV" shot of the x-wing diving down into the death star trench. just awesome even 35 years later
-Han coming to the rescue
-throne room music and clean and shiny r2
