Any Tv/Film reboots, remakes or sequels that you felt were superior to the original?

Just curious what titles people will come up with.

For example, though at first it pissed me off to even hear it was being made, I ended up enjoying NBC’s Hannibal more than the movies and the books.

The Empire Strikes Back
The Last Jedi
Evil Dead 2
Twin Peaks: The Return
John Wick Chapter 2
The Raid 2: Berandal

In terms of remakes for which I have seen both the original and remake, the only thing I can come up with is Suspiria. I would say The Thing, but I haven’t seen The Thing From Another World.

I would like to continue watching this one day. I’m just always discouraged when I know it ended before it’s time, but then if I hadn’t started watching Twin Peaks, even though I knew it had no solid ending, I wouldn’t have found one of my favorite shows.

Not superior but a new take would be Space Battleship Yamato 2199. I feel like it was the best remake i’ve ever seen. Very faithful in spirit to the original series.

I don’t really care for remake sequels as a concept, even if i sort of like aspects of Force Awakens. And i despised Jurassic World. I still feel like they shouldn’t have remade return of the jedi as rise of skywalker, but again i liked the movie regardless. Last Jedi was sort of a remake of Empire Strikes Back and Return as well, and sort of not.

Into Darkness wasn’t better than Wrath of Khan, although i don’t hate Into Darkness. I just feel like all the Star Trek films lately were villains with revenge plots. Rather than about humanism and exploration.

I was just thinking earlier today, I think Blade Runner 2049 might be better than the original. Both are two of my favourite sci-fi films so it’s hard to choose.

Maybe this is a hot take? Time will tell.

Is it okay to like a trashy remake, i kind of like Never Say Never Again. I would never say its better than Thunderball though.

I see the Thing has already been mentioned, so i guess i will say Judy Garland version of a Star is Born.

Spider-Man 2 by Raimi.

Logan

The Dark Knight

World War II was a lot more interesting than World War I. The three way war between the fascist, the communists, and the Allies made for really compelling drama.

The Nicholas Cage version of Gone in Sixty Seconds.

The Pierce Brosnan version of The Thomas Crown affair.

I guess i liked them more than the original i won’t actually argue they are better made.

I also liked Point of No Return more than La Femme Nikita.

The Maltese Falcon (1941) is a remake of a 1931 pre-code film of the same name. The 1941 film is a masterpiece.

For me, these remakes far surpass the originals.

True Grit
3:10 To Yuma
The Magnificent Seven
Ocean’s Eleven
MAS*H (TV series)

As far as sequels that were better than the first, nothing comes to mind.

I’ll edit if I think of more.
