have fun watching a non anamorphic widescreen laserdisc transfer that not even uses the whole disc…
instead we have XBOX game demos and trailers for the upcoming lego game…

lol
and of course stupid people will still defend this man…
anyone who does is pathetic after hearing this.

Didn't we already know that the second disc contained crappy video game trailers?

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

I meant the trailers, although, actually, they're probably anamorphic and have a better image quality than the movie...

Does it matter? Most DVDs these days do contain trailers and lame previews. Heck, there were some issues concerning the compression of the 2005 version of King Kong on the DVD, and they still managed to cram a Volkswagen commercial and some NYC tourism thing onto the disc.

I'd get concerned if we find out they're being put on a single layered disc. Then the extra content will seem ludicris. If they do go with dual layered, then little things like a game demo and some commercials isn't really a problem as there should be enough space.

That may be true, but it's just clutter. I know I'm only nitpicking here, but I hate extraneous shit on DVDs - any DVDs.

Yeah, me too. Seems so tacky, especailly for something like this.

An Xbox demo, a lego trailer? Come on!

I might buy three dual layered blank DVDs and run them through DVD shrink with no compression, simply removing the demos and junk.

And even learn how to tamper with the menus to get rid of even their very mention.

My stance on revising fan edits.

does it really matter THAT much that the menu will go something like
OOT movie
lego commercial
something else

why does that even matter.

Less space on the DVD being devoted to good image quality.

Still, what's worrying me the most is the Laserdisc-master issue. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know DVDs are better than Laserdiscs, but DVDs do have some problems in comparison to it (such as a lack of true analogue motion blur). Therefore, we'll have the already-present Laserdisc deficiencies being further compounded by DVD deficiencies.

Edit: Oh, and by the way, Lego Star Wars is one awesome video game. Very fun. I'm looking forward to a new game based on the classic trilogy.

I look forward to being educated about this analog motion blur.

Dude, "superbit" claim to "max out dvd quality and fill the disc with just the video and audio in their HIGEST POSSIBLE QUALITY!!!!" as justification for not including special features... but pop one in, and you'll find that the movie only takes up 6gig or less typically, leaving stacks of free space. Simply said, you don't have to use all the bits on a DVD to have a movie encoded in good quality. I mean come on!

Once again, the DVDs are made from Digital Tape masters, which were used to make Laserdiscs (and VHS tapes). They are not made from Laserdiscs (or VHS tapes). They will thus not contain any "Laserdisc deficiencies" (or "VHS deficiencies").

But having any kind of video game trailer on there still sucks.

But remember according to Lucasfilm the OOT 'bonus material' IS essentially extraneous shit.

So true.
How the OOT is being treated today.

It doesn't really - it's just kinda tacky.

No, what would really suck is if the menu went:

X-Box Demo
Lego Trailer

movie...

I read on here somewhere else that it will probably be an easter egg and nobody will be able to find it!

WEll, as long as it's the standard 1138 easter egg, I guess it won't be so bad!

If the disc art looks anything like the box art, I'll be making "backups" anyway, at which point, you may as well remove the menu and extras.

I've mentioned before that I plan on making a copy so that I can have a disc without any new artwork on it, to go along with the cover I'm making.

Is it easy to leave the game and Lego preview off of the copy?
*edit* - Yeah, and the menu also. I just want the movie on there.

Really? But according to "Lynne Hale" for "publicity" at Lucasfilm:

"The 1993 Laserdisc masters represented the best source for providing the original versions as DVD bonus material. Although these are non-anamorphic versions, they do preserve the original widescreen composition of the movies."

If we take what she said to be strictly accurate, then they will be using "Laserdisc masters." Again, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but a Laserdisc master would technically be a parent Laserdisc whose data is copied onto all the other Laserdiscs sent out to for purchase. Otherwise "Lynne" would have said "Digital Tape Masters" used to make the Laserdisc masters.

She is using the term loosely (like everyone else) to mean masters made for a Laserdisc release. They are not using Laserdiscs as the masters, trust me.

She may have meant the digital masters used for the Laserdiscs. Honestly, I'm surprised they didn't use a vintage, well-worn 1982 VHS copy as the DVD master.
