hey guys, i just made a very funny observation. in another thread some body was argueing with me that every thing doesnt need to be fleshed out and be told to people directly, he said this was the problem with the PT. now in the thread you guys are argueing that the problem in the PT was that something wasnt fleshed out and wasnt told to us directly using words. hmmm... take it how you will i just find that very funny.

I think the argument here is not that people want obvious stuff spoon-fed to them (as GL tended to do in the PT and somewhat in ROTJ) but indtead that the PT should have *focused* more on the friendship instead of Gungan wars and trade disputes and long useless speeches.

well the PT was all about politics and how anakin fell. those two were fleched out well, i feel.

Well put greencapt.

So Shimraa, we meet again at last....

What’s the internal temperature of a TaunTaun? Luke warm.

first people were saying how things dont need to be spelled out, or hand fed to us by Lucas. Thats totally different then fleshed out. the best definition i found is here where they say it means "To give substance or detail"

when the characters flat out state something that is stupidly obvious that is spoon feeding us. When the relationship between Anakin and Obi-Wan is shown, and we get to see them acting as two really great friends, and their actions make us feel the bond between them that is fleshing out the relationship. Lines like "Your the closest thing i have to a father" or 'you're my best friend ani', 'and you're mine too obi', 'best friends forever man' isnt fleshing it out, its being insulting to the viewers intelligence. 'See they said they are friends so they must be' The part where Anakin refuses to leave Obi-Wan behind after saving palpatine and killing Dooku, starts to show it, but there wasnt enough stuff like this, it was all told to us. we needed more stuff like this to show why he wouldnt leave him, why he cared about Obi-Wan so much and vice versa. Basically this doesnt have the same effect as if we had scene it, lived the growth of their friendship with them. Then it would have been personal to us. The battle at the end would have carried even more emotion than it did (i know some people dont think it had much emotion at all, but i think it did). When Obi-Wan says "You were like a brother to me" to Anakin it would have been orders of magnitudes more powerful, and caused much more emotions to stir in the audience because Anakin would have been betraying all of us, not just Obi-Wan.

ps. Slightly off topic. In Ep II Anakin says Obi-Wan is like his father (on at least 2 occasions), In Ep III Obi-Wan refers to him as a brother, and Anakin now refers to Palpatine as a Father. Did anyone else find this and the whole closeness Palps had to Anakin weird. I mean, for me it seemed like given a choice, Anakin would have chosen Palpatine over Obi-Wan, the latter of which is supposed to be his best friend in the whole world. I thought this cheapened the Obi-Wan/Anakin relationship for me.
Why Anakin really turned to the dark side:
"Anakin, You're father I am" - Yoda
"No. No. That's not true! That's impossible!" - Anakin

Hmm, I think Shimraa is talking about me. Thanks for clearing that up, guys, as there is definitely a fine line between spoonfeeding and fleshing out.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

It's only in the nature of Star Wars that I say this: Anakin and Obi-Wan should have had a romantic, candlelit dinner followed by snuggling. After all, Anakin and Obi-Wan were like brothers, and we all know the situations Lucas puts his sibling pairs in. ^_~

Puts a whole new twist on that deleted Padme/Obi-Wan affair, doesn't it?

Anakin and Padme
Obi-Wan and Padme
Obi-Wan and... Anakin?

Episode III.... Three times the excitement, three times the, "Ohhhh, yeaaaah!"
