Yes, I referring to the first issue of the Gold Key comic series.

*shakes head*

Okay I have to say at least the artwork is a lot better in that book then it is in most comics I have seen from the 60s and 70s that were tie ins to TV shows or movies. In fact it looks like standard art work from decent comic at the time. Do we know who did the art work on these, because at least that person seems to have been trying.

My ratings for the Star Wars movies. EP1 4.5/10. Ep2 4.0/10. EP3 2.0/10. EP4 9.5/10. EP5 10/10 EP6 8.5/10 EP7 8.3/10.

Well that’s a pretty unfair assessment of the era. There was a lot of good licensed comic art at the time:

Pardon me if I will sound too harsh, but right now I’m seriously pissed about those CBS bastards, but why the f*** does everybody seem to hate Wesley Crusher? He was my favourite TNG character when I was younger but I really have a problem finding any positive comments about him online. The same with Enterprise - for me it was the best Trek show since TNG, especially the first 3 seasons before it got crappy for the last season, but it looks like everybody (at least from the USA) hates the first 3 seasons and likes the fourth one.

I never knew some fans hated Wesley before the internet. (There was even a usenet news group called alt.wesley.crusher.die.die.die) I didn’t know Whovians hated Adric either. Only one group of fans got their wish.

I remember back in the 80’s thinking he was a bit too clean cut and wishy-washy, but I never got to the point of hating The actor or character. At the same time, I also had problems with Riker and how clean marine and stiff he was. What I truly had the problem with was the writing of the show and the overused “Wesley saves the day” plot device. Could I be wrong in thinking that the character and actor took a lot of undeserved flack from fans due to the writing?

Nope. Marina Sirtis suffered the same problem. She was lousy as Troi throughout 95% of TNG’s run, but once the writers put her in an actual uniform and had her do something other than sitting on the bridge stating the obvious, she improved by leaps and bounds.

Did Wesley really save the ship too many times?
In one of the very first episodes (the 1., 2., 3. or 4. depending on where you live and the broadcast order) he had the idea of throwing the other ship at the asteroid to slow it down so that Data has time to start the engines and save the Enterprise - Data actually saved the ship, Wesley just gave him time.
Then there were 2 Traveller episodes, in one of them he helped the Traveller to bring the ship back to the known universe and in the second one he helped him to save his mother from the bubble - in both cases he had no idea what he’s doing and couldn’t do bantha poodoo without the Traveller’s guidance.
And then in a later episode when he was just a guest he actually saved the ship from the influences of the mind controlling game.

I don’t really remember any other episodes where he would save the day, from what I remember he was always just being on the bridge or in the engine room just doing his job, or he was being an awkward teenager, or in the early episodes just causing trouble.

But Troi on the other hand was really useless. The writers obviously had no idea what to do with her character, so she was always just stating the obvious, or had a romantic involvement with the guest of the week, or she was arguing with her mother.

I never minded troi. And I hated Wesley, but I never thought that it was the actors fault.

It’s like the myth that Kirk shagged a lot of space babes on TOS, when there’s only two occasions when it most definitely happened. 😉

I hate the false stereotypes of Kirk that informed Abramstrek’s depiction of him.

Yeah, those Kirk stereotypes … I don’t know how they ever caught on.

Of course, I don’t know how anyone could have ever found Bela Lugosi’s Dracula frightening, either. Perhaps it’s a generational thing? *shrug*

I don’t doubt Kirk was a ladies man. There is on screen evidence for that. It’s the perception he got jiggy with every woman he met in every episode. Eddie Murphy even had a bit in his 80’s standup act about how Kirk did it with an Orion slave girl. That never happened. Casual viewers somehow mash up Vina seriously turning Pike on with Marta, who would kiss Kirk as she attempted to knife him in Whom Gods Destroy.

IIRC, women of the day wanted Lugosi to give them one hell of a hickey. Vampires didn’t have sex appeal before that.

Still, it doesn’t seem out of character for Kirk to be getting jiggy with an Orion slave girl in Star Trek 09, especially considering his younger age and the slightly different personality that comes with the alternate upbringing.

The TNG HD transfers look lovely on Netflix, I’m planning on getting the blu rays sometime soon. I checked out an episode of DS9 (which I haven’t watched since it was on TV) and yikes… It looks like a VHS tape. I’m not normally too worried about picture quality, but it’s hard to even look at. I knew there was huge demand for DS9 to be remastered on blu ray and I can see why if what Netflix and Amazon have are the most up to date transfers. It makes the GOUT look good.

It’s not the transfer, the episodes were literally edited on video tape. Except for going back to re-edit the original film from scratch (which is what they did for TNG), DS9 and VGR are stuck like that. And since not many people bought the TNG remaster because no one knew about it because CBS didn’t promote it, CBS won’t pay to do the other shows.

How was it not promoted? The theater screening of Best Of Both Worlds was basically a big promo for the Blu Rays. The theater I saw it in was packed. I was very disappointed they didn’t have a screening of All Good Things.

I would think future syndication and download sales would affect the bottom line a tad? DS9 and Voyager have a bigger issue if the CGI files weren’t kept though.

From what I’ve read on the Digital Bits the folks behind the Star Trek restorations are very interested in working on DS9, and understand there is a demand for it, but need to get the funding from the higher ups at CBS. It may be a while before they’re willing to sink more money into the lesser known shows. It’s too bad, as I’ve really fallen in love with the series recently upon revisiting TNG and would love to own all of the series on blu ray some day (or at least TOS, DS9 and TNG).

I’ve always been a fan of TOS and have seen those episodes many times along with the films, but never had an interest in the entirety of the franchise until the past few months.

Or you can do it like me. I ripped all my Trek DVDs and Blurays to mkv. I’m watching everything from external hard discs and the original discs are safe untouched on the shelf

Remember that episode of TNG where Riker was cooking eggs and Pulaski, Data, La Forge, and Warf came in to freeload off of Riker who graciously cooked them omelets. Data didn’t even take a bite, but just rudely picked over it with a disturbed look on his face. Geordi spit the eggs out in front of Riker and made no apology for his despicable and unkind behavior. The doctor also made no attempt to hide her disgust and threw her fork down in front of the first officer with no regard for his feelings. Warf was the only one with any class; he ate every bite and complemented Riker on his cooking. Whether he enjoyed it or not, I do not know but at least he was polite. If I were Riker I wouldn’t have put up with that nonsense and would’ve said, “%&#& shove that #%&% up you G#% damn #%#&%#$ and get the #%&$ out of my quarters.” Just imagine slaving over a small George Forman grill cooking eggs for your so-called friends only to get that type of ungrateful reaction. Maybe I’m just a less patient and less forgiving man than First Officer William Riker.

I love that scene, especially with Worf chowing down while everyone else is thoroughly disgusted.
