Of what? The fact that Jetrell Fo wants to see the CGI test footage?

So what are the chances of us actually getting movie remasters that are good for something besides Wrath of Khan for the 50th anniversary?

Very sad.

It's too bad Riley never appeared in the movies. He made a good impression for only being in two episodes.

If I remember an old Starlog interview correctly, Hyde was constantly amazed fans remembered his character.

Didn't he play his father in some of the fan shows?

I’m sorry, but if you are going to do a new series, don’t d*** around with it. Broadcast it on tv, not on some stupid CBS all access on demand service. How the heck to expect to get viewers that way? I can also see confusion happening between this new series and the new movie coming out.

The movie will be well out of theaters by then, and CBS/Paramount has always been about trying to base their entire experimental network on Star Trek. Makes sense to me.

I wouldn’t be afraid of that. Each episode will be “available” within few hours. The thing which worries me is the showrunner - Alex Shortman 😦

I’m old fashioned, I guess. I’m not sure I even understand what this all access is. I have on-demand from Comcast. Will the episodes appear there?

CBS doesn’t like Hulu, so they made their own competitor so they can keep all the ad revenue. They call it “All-Access”, and its US$6 a month.

The pilot will air on CBS proper, then the rest of the episodes will premiere in the app, I’m assuming on a weekly basis.

So people will have to $6 a month to be able to see episodes? Yeah, I don’t see that working. People don’t react well to having to pay for something they are used to getting for free.

I’m assuming Abrams won’t be involved. I can’t imagine he will, considering the cbs/paramount split. He likely will have moved on to exec producing 8 and 9.

It’s not surprising to see them going with one of the big names behind the recent movies. Between Kurtzman and Orci, they had a guy who, like Abrams, was not so big a Star Trek fan but seems level headed, and a guy who’s a huge fan but also a conspiracy theorist.

They went with the former.

I was pretty excited reading the story over at birthmoviesdeath. Did a big huge “Whaaaaaa???” upon seeing the headline.

Then I got to the part about it being exclusive to cbs’ streaming service.

Uuuuuigh.

So I guess they’re gonna try and make this the House of Cards to their Netflix? Or will it be available for free to those of us already paying for cable (I’m guessing the answer is no)?

(EDIT: Warbler beat me to it!)

Pretty disappointing CBS won’t be airing this on their actual network. On the other hand, if the streaming service frees them up to do things they couldn’t as an actual OTA network tv show, it might be for the best.

My money is on the adventures of the Enterprise J in the 26th century. That way they stay in the prime universe, but are far enough away from the previous shows, (the way TNG was from TOS) to be a fresh take on things.

They’ll find a way for Data or Q to show up of course. 😉

I have little doubt about it being set in the Abrams universe given the producers. Sigh, poor Prime universe never gets any love. Outside of the MMO and novels anyway…

Saddest part about this is waiting to see why it inevitably fails. Either because the show stinks and or because of the awful choice of venue.

Either way, they’ll mark it up as due to lack of interest and it’ll be another decade or more before we even get a chance at another series.

MMO? I’ll have to look that up.

It’s not bad and its free to play.

I sometimes play the Star Trek MMOG. I like it because it does not force me to pay a monthly online fee to play the basic game content. It’s a game that makes money on the hard core players by selling them special items, ships, uniforms, etc.
