This is funny, but I also find this common criticism funny. As I pointed out before, Cumberbatch was British, but Montalban was Mexican, and it was pretty clear in his accent. But hey, it's still fun to point out the discrepancy between portrayals and laugh about it :)
Like the white guys in yellowface in The Talons Of Wieng Chiang you can forgive casting a Mexican as an Indian-Indian in the sixties because there were less local ethnic Sikh actors to pool from back then and it cost a bit for a smallish production company to fly them over.
STID was a big budget movie that starred people from all over the world anyway.
So casting a Caucasian as an ethnic Sikh in the 21st Century is either very backwards looking or pushing Star Trek into the same avant-garde realms as the kind of experimental Shakespeare where Othello is played by a woman painted green.
I always thought since when the rumors first started that there'd be Khan in the sequel that Javier Bardem should play him, to keep continuity with him as a Hispanic Indian and because Bardem is fantastic. But whatever, Cumbermatch did a more than fine job.
I never batted an eye lid at Bennedict playing Khan. Beyond the name his ethnicity and cultural background had nothing to do with the Khan character really. BC was just a great actor to be a villain. As has been said above Montalban wasn't Sikh either. It's not like BC pulled an Alec Guinness and blacked up and put on a voice...
The original TV Khan is arguably more problematic as Montalban applied a thick layer of skin darking makeup...
...something they wisely dropped for the film Khan. But in this day and age there's no excuse for having Depp in The Lone Ranger doing a "We in heap big trouble kemosabe" voice. And no ammount of photo oportunities with Native American delegations is gonna change that...

It's the 21st Century, India is full of Sikh actors who are only a plane trip away (I dare say America and UK now have their fair share of homegrown Sikh talent).
Sikhism isn't just a religion.
It's almost impossible to convert to Sikhism so chances are you are going to look the part if you are fit to play it.
If they cast Benedict as another Botany Bay crew member they could have avoided some of this.
Benedict looks a lot like Judson Scott, who played Joachim in TWOK, but the non fans the studio was lusting after would never have heard of the character.
Might have been better had they avoided Khan altogether. For all the hype, he wasn't even the main villain, it was yet another Starfleet admiral gone rogue. Collect them all!

Yeah, I'm digging the new interpretation of the TMNT. And I love Leo's favorite show. =P
They really nailed the Filmation look and feel. The "episode" I saw yesterday spoofed the Tribble episode, right down to the fact all the Tribbles were pink.
Of course TMNT and Trek have crossed paths before...
I still need Raph to complete my set. ;)

So has anyone gotten around to watching the Next Generation remastered on Bluray? I've been purchasing every season because 1) I'm a big fan of TNG and 2) I want to support this project which everyone thought would have been impossible to do.
I am really impressed with how well lit the whole show was, especially the models which, when recomposited with today's technology, look like motion picture quality work.
A few things have been redone with CGI, (planets and phasers of course, but also some shots of the ships) but when it's done it's always with the upmost respect for the original intent.

I'd be more interested in the more impossible B5 and Farscape HD sets.
I have Seasons 1 & 2, mostly to support the idea of rebuilding the entire show from scratch using the original elements, but also because I'd actually not seen most of the episodes. They look incredible, like they were made yesterday (which I guess they were now). And the bonus features are outstanding, mostly because they've had 25 years to look back on it, unlike features on shows still on, where its all EPK fluff.
I need to continue buying them, but we've been spending our fun money on other things.

I got the OS remasters (including the HDDVD filpover season1) and they are fun.
I never really dug TNG in the same way though.
I like some key episodes so I might get a best of box set or something.

They have been releasing popular episodes in separate packaging, if that floats your boat. They put Best of Both Worlds Pts I and II on a single disc, Redemption I & II on another release and Unification pts 1 & 2 will be coming next. That along with the sampler disc that came out before they released the season sets that includes Encounter at Farpoint, The Inner Light, and Sins of the Father... There's quite the best-of collection right there.

I think the first two seasons really benefit from the remaster seeing as the original film to tape transfers were of really low quality. The somewhat lackluster, hamfisted story-telling can be somewhat forgiven...
Yeah, the special features are pretty great as well, although be forewarned that when you get to season 4, there's a dip in the quality of the VAM. The writers kinda repeat what they talked about in season 3 and the actors are kinda repeating what they've been telling in the other interviews, and the art department interview is a real snore fest. Luckily the old DVD extras are there and those are still interesting.
