If it was done right. Whether it could get ratings in the current splintered tv landscape is another matter. (Does Nielsen even factor in online viewing?) The conditions that allowed TNG to thrive no longer exist.

Maybe a miniseries, or a series of direct to video movies? The studio may be leery of ever having a Trek show on the air at the same time a feature film is in theaters again.

I think Dorn's "Captain Worf" idea as a miniseries would be cool. And if it worked like BSG's miniseries did, then take it to series. But you're also right in that the casual viewer might be confused by having a series taking place in a different timeline than the movies coming out at the same time.

Yes, I know that Superman Returns came out while Smallville was on the air. I still think people might have been confused.

Rumors suggest the director is the Rupert Wyatt who directed rise of the planet of the apes.  And we will have a 2016 release date.

I hope this time its not a space revenge movie.  A ripoff of star wars or the wrath of khan. I don't want any more nods to nostalgia or retreads of classic episodes or movies.  Something new and fresh would be nice.  But not likely.

It could be all that and more, and I still won't bother to watch it. Bizarro Trek is a pool that has been pissed in to the point where the water's become opaque with yellow, and all the chlorine in the world isn't going to get it clean enough to convince me to dip even a single toe in.

I'm just going to wait until Trek gets another reboot, whenever that'll be. Hopefully by then, we'll get something that isn't mindless bullshit.

You're starting to sound like generalfrevious.

The hardcore fans probably were not confused. Some wanted Smallville to seque into a Superman movie with the same cast. Fans of the show deserved a little more of Welling in the suit than they actually got at the end.

What I should have said is, in the minds of the studio suits, there might be the fear that some people won't go see a movie when the tv show is on for free.

Some of the people making Trek fan productions might just be the ones who could take up the reins, but I know Hollywood seldom works that way.

Those are all in one timeline, though.
Yes. Different points in the timeline, but they're not reboots/mirror universes.

Yeah, I agree with Tobar.  Alternate realities/reboots or just vastly different eras.  The casual movie-goer doesn't know the difference.  All they know is that it's two completely different sets of characters with next to nothing in common.  They might as well be two completely different universes, so it's really the exact same thing.  After all, Anakin Solo was supposedly killed off because they were afraid people would confuse him for Anakin Skywalker in the prequels...

A show where Worf is captain of a Starfleet vessel would have to remain cannon to the new films anyway - He wasn't a captain at the point where Romulus comploded and Spock and Nero were sucked back one hundred and whatever years.

Star Trek [2009] has roots in the Prime timeline - it's just one long-ass time travel episode that hasn't yet been resolved.

It's kinda funny you mention WORF and confusion in the same breath when he himself was in movies and a tv show [DS9] AT THE SAME TIME ;) - and in different time periods to boot - see First Contact.

and yeah, the whole STV and STVI coming out during TNG. If an audience can handle that I'm sure things will be fine.

Maybe a mini-series to clear up how he could be in so many places at the same time? ;)

A hot-headed imbecile like Worf achieving the rank of captain? Now, what does that remind me of ...?

Ah, yes! I remember now!

Haha, I know.  Isn't that awesome?  All this time I thought I'd been living in some crazy bizarro world were people thought terrible, brainless movies were good.  This actually validates my faith in the human race a little bit.

As I said elsewhere, it's like asking a room full of OT.com members what they think of the prequels. ;)
