TOS has the best tone/feel of all the Trek series’, but I’m not keen on the Technicolor sets/costumes, the episodic storytelling, or the steadfast focus on Kirk/Spock/McCoy. TNG & especially DS9 did better jobs utilizing and developing their characters.

Just about every series was striving for vivid color once the networks began regular color broadcasting in 1966, and NBC parent RCA wanted to sell a lot of shiny new color tv’s. Developing the supporting cast simply wasn’t a thing in 1960’s tv. We’re lucky the Enterprise even had the impression of a constant crew.

I understand that.

The Kirk/Spock/McCoy dynamic is the show! And they’re far more complex than they’re given credit for! Especially Kirk.

I love 'em, but it would’ve been nice if there’d been some Scotty/Sulu/Uhura/etc.-centric episodes in the mix.

Complex, yes, but they don’t evolve. Real character growth and change only took place once they transitioned to film.

What about when Uhura forgot how to read?

I agree with your assessment by and large, but I really really love the technicolor sets and clothes in TOS.

The Lights of Zetar is certainly Scotty-centered.

It was a bit more severe than forgetting how to read!

The implications of Uhura’s mind wipe by NOMAD is probably best forgotten. Would she even be the same person with all the reeducation? 😉

The ball is bluey?
And how did they teach her Swahili before teaching her English?

Yeah, I was never clear on all that. I guess we’re meant to believe that she didn’t lose her memories, but just lost her communication skills? I never thought about the Swahili thing; that’s funny.

One might argue there’s a crewmember fluent in Swahili aboard, but The Man Trap made it clear there wasn’t, as that’s how the salt vampire almost got our favorite communications officer.

Interesting, as this is the one time they didn’t appear as someone who was real. Did they tap into Uhura’s dreams?

The NCC-1701 Enterprise had a very high turnover rate, so by the time we got to the Changeling there may have been another.

I really need to watch TOS again. It’s been over four months since I’ve seen an episode and I haven’t watched the whole series through in a whole year.

I like all of the Star Trek series (except Discovery). I probably prefer TOS the least, for one because it is so very campy.

It’s not a problem if the only way you watch Star Trek is a single episode every once in a while when it’s on TV.

If you can’t appreciate camp, stay out of the campsite.

And most of the campiness of the show is in season three. But there’s still a lot there.

Yes. Also, Enterprise was renamed Star Trek: Enterprise at the beginning of season 3. So to a degree, the question answers itself.

I love the characters in ENT. Especially Malcolm and Trip.

JEDIT: I should say I like Enterprise, but I HATE its finale. I’d just as soon the finale episode doesn’t exist. Watching the fanedit that removes TNG elements is not enough to fix its problems.

The Empath remains one of my favorite episodes of the entire franchise.

Wait, you thought I asked because “Star Trek” wasn’t in the name of the show?

I just thought most people disliked it and maybe you forgot about it. I’ve never seen it. And I had no clue about the name thing, so I was not talking about that. So to a degree, only you could answer the question, it couldn’t answer itself.

What?! No.

My favorite episode is Deja Q, where Q loses his powers.

My understanding, from this thread, is that most people hate on Enterprise because most people couldn’t watch it, because it aired on UPN which, in many places, wasn’t available.

Compared to the original Lost In Space airing on the other network at the time? I think not. 😉

I don’t think Frink would be a fan of Enterprise. The first couple seasons kind of creep me out, it always felt like the focus was what compromising situation can we put T’Pol in this week? Thankfully they eventually broke away from that but it marred the series for me.

Ha that sounds terrible.

It’s been in my Netflix queue so long I’m not even sure it’s still on Netflix.
