“No intelligent person should be slave to a little stick,” Gene said.
O hai, double entendre.
Happy 50th. Hopefully we’ll get remasters of the movies besides WOK at some point, maybe it’ll be the soften the blow on the lack of DS9 remasters. But knowing Paramount, I doubt it.
“What Orwell feared were those who would ban books. What Huxley feared was that there would be no reason to ban a book, for there would be no one who wanted to read one.”
Neil Postman, Amusing Ourselves to Death
They would have done it for one of the 4 releases they brought out this year.

Here’s 3 additional vids which I came across recently which I quite liked too -
(some nice editing in this) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWkNxlduzQQ
(love the guy wearing the ‘Gorn’ head!) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktPb36iLsIE
(almost 40 mins long, but a great watch) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bzi6CmUDabQ
But dammit Jim, I’m still miffed that Paramount didn’t end up organising a ‘remastered’ blu-ray of ‘ST:TMP-THE DIRECTOR’S EDITION’ to tie-in with the show’s 50th anniversary!

I’m surprised that DS9 isn’t getting remastered given that apparently TNG sold well. I kind of hope that the DC remaster of II is testing the waters to see if we can get remasteres of the others (particularly the DCs of I and VI), but we’ll see. Paramount just don’t seem interested.

They don’t seem terribly interested in their back catalog period. A lot of older Paramount titles have been licensed to other companies in recent years, usually without any extras that were on the DVD.

I was under the impression that sales were quite disappointing compared to the large sum required to remaster the whole thing.
Star Trek: The Motion Picture DE - The Anti-DNR Fanedit
Duel (1971) - The Hybrid Cut
The Phantom of the Opera - 1925 Version Reconstruction - Rare Scores Collection - Roy Budd Score

Multiple sources actually claim that the TNG blu-rays barely broke even.
Have the remastered episodes entered syndication yet? That money has to factor into whether the whole endeavor keeps the accountants happy.

Unlike the TOS remaster, which was designed to make syndication buyers happier, the TNG remaster was designed to sell Blu-rays, which they didn’t. The major streaming services have TNGR, but I’m sure they paid they same they would have for SD TNG.

I would think any channel would want the remasters instead of the SD episodes now. I know BBC America was showing the old versions last time my cable company forgot to scramble it.

Funny, I’ve just came to ot.com FROM that video 😃
That guy definitely mixes up fascism, nazism and communism and many of the things he says are just wrong. Wrong as in “it did not happen”
The video’s getting pretty popular online. My brother (a non-Trekkie and fan of that guy’s videos) told me about it and told me to watch it… and eventually told me to calm down when it sent me into a lengthy, angry rant. “It’s just a theory man, why are you so mad?”
EDIT: well, it was getting popular. Seems like fewer and fewer tweets now are saying “I liked a YouTube video…” when I search Star Trek. I’m glad it’s dying quickly.

Dumb is right.
The Federation is really communist (the post-Kirk, pre-Dominion War era Federation, anyway.)
Never seen this TWOK poster before.

Discovery has been delayed to May so they can do it properly. Good, let’s not rush the first series in 10 years just to meet some arbitrary date.

Why do I have the feeling they have no idea what they’re trying to do?
Why do I have the feeling they have no idea what they’re trying to do?
I don’t know why you feel that. I feel that they know exactly what they want to do, and need more time to pull it off.

Is anyone actually surprised at the delay? We haven’t even heard anything about casting yet.
.
I’m sure this is a case of someone coming into the Writer’s Room and saying “Hey guys, yesterday was the date we were supposed to start set construction, you haven’t even given us plans yet. We’re also supposed to start shooting next month and you haven’t even had auditions.” and the writers going “We should probably ask for more time.”
